Also if you watch many strongman competitions all of the competitors will quite often cheer on their competitor after they finish their set and they will hug or fist bump to show respect.

First, I love that you guys answer questions like this. It shows how much of an intellectual both of you are... especially Brian, because people can think of a big strong guy as just being a meat head who doesn't think about much more than food and lifting weights. Anyhow, you're both just so down to earth, which helps you easily relate to others and vice versa.
My number ONE Parenting Tip (something I've had to learn... but with awesome results!): I think the greatest gift you can give your kids is: Consistency. If you intend to be a great parent, and that's your goal, it's easy to be the amazing Dad or Mom when it's a perfect day, everyone is happy. But on that day when the 'sh*t' is really hitting the fan, when the kids know you are really challenged, and yet can count on you to still provide those same level headed parenting skills you did on your best day... watch the relationship grow like you've never experienced before. The children love you more, trust you more, and they'll always come to you with life's challenges because they know they can count on you. It doesn't mean they are never in trouble, but it does mean they can expect that you won't go ballistic if something happens, but instead will look for a solution... or turn it into a learning experience.
On discipline: Discipline is a necessary part of anything you do, including raising kids. However, I have found it is far more productive (especially with young kids) to reward the behavior we're looking for than it is to discipline the behavior we want our child to avoid. It doesn't mean we don't address and talk about the things that go wrong, but it does mean we celebrate our victories every day, and we never miss an opportunity to tell our kids how proud we are of them. We sit down an talk to them all the time. We do activities with them frequently. We play with them, take them places with us. At ages 3 and 5, my girls go places with us that kids don't generally accompany parents... yet they have learned there's a time and a place, and they know what to do. For example, my wife plays piano and sings at our Sunday morning church service. The girls have placed chairs right behind her at the keyboard. They will sit there quietly through the entire service. People are amazed by that, yet I think it comes out of frequently celebrating the victories, big and small, and we always have a round of high fives after church for that "so totally awesome job of sitting there quietly and not fussing!"

That's so true about kids only knowing what you teach them. My 8yr old daughter goes trick or treating and she don't even eat the candy, she hates sugar and sugary drinks. Cuz she wasn't raised on them. I'm proud of her for that.

I find most high level athletes are generally decent people. Maybe not so much over paid football&soccer players. But in other sports like athletics or strongman, the dedication and motivation you need typically only occur in certain types of people. Plus nobody gets to the top without the help of someone, be it friends, family, coaches, trainers, etc, and they won’t be there if you’re a massive douche.

Solid advice on parenting. As a parent of an 18 month old, patience is super important. Also, realizing that it is easy to make mistakes especially when the kiddo is really pushing your buttons.

My youngest of 4 sons is already 21 and I am proud to say that they've grown to be amazing young men and we are in the process of adopting a 16 year old young man that needs someone to love him. What a great couple, humble, happy and healthy. As a father here is a bit of advice; patience is recommended up to the teen age. I have a feeling you both will enjoy all phases of children rearing, it is amazing how much we learn about ourselves while parenting. Family first.
