What games do you feel are overlooked? Why?
Indigo prophecy (Fahrenheit in Europe) is nearly unknown in the US. Viewtiful Joe, The Punisher on ps2/Xbox, dino crisis, Twisted Metal Black
Demolition Racer : No Exit, on Dreamcast. A pretty fun battle racer.
Star Wars episode 3 on the GBA is a fantastic beat ‘em up. Most license games are trash but this one really stands out.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about Robitrek. If you're going to talk about the other three games like Soul Blazer and illusion of Gaia you completely overlooked the other game most people forgot the company made.
There's a great multiplayer Bomberman-esque action shooter on the PlayStation called Trap Gunner. My wife and I spent hours exploding our anime avatars. We loved it but I've never seen anyone talk about it.
My 3 year old was up with me watching this episode and she had me rewind @22:01 at least 40+ times to see your screaming baby face Joe.😅
Thanks for that, she laughed so much it made her pass out. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Quality story! My daughter is also 3. That musta been a joy for ya! Bless.
@@ninjapirate47 same brotha.
It’s amazing seeing the little things that make them smile.
Blessings to you and your little one 😊
Fill every day with moments like this, because they grow up so fast.
@@theflyingninja1 thank you so much! I’m seeing it right now. It sucks to see her get so big so fast 🥲
Stay blessed and Happy holidays!
I absolutely love finishing episodes to avoid jail time ❤
High seas havoc is an all time great for me. Remember renting it in the nineties and getting my mom hooked so she'd buy it when we got home. We used to tear that shit up. Great memories playing together with that one
Strange as it sounds, Ghost in the Shell on the PS was the game that clued me in that my mother suffered from some _really weird_ form of multiple personality disorder.
White ppl be like
It's a pleasure to open this sack.
One of the best ending skits yet 😂
I find the ending skits a bit hit-and-miss, but this was definitely one of the better ones. 😆
Is Dave's Sack gonna be our Christmas present?
Who's Dave sack
Previous co host
@@seanthegamer5552no... you didn't disrespect Dave's sack like that!
I love the episode where Joe and Dave finally kiss
@@liquidninja6654 I'm pro JoeDave
The Quintet Trilogy may have been overlooked for their day, but I don't think there's an SNES fan out there who hasn't talked about them today.
Ah yes. The important part of a company lifecycle - talking about them after they've been dissolved
@@aaronmarko I think I see what you're getting at, but is that not the whole point of this video?
That's the difficulty in underrated/hidden gems lists. In circles of avid classic game players, everybody knows most of these. The general public, though, does not, and it's a mixed bag among younger collectors as to their experience. I have friends who play a lot of nintendo classic stuff, and know those libraries fairly well, but have to be explained what a Master System or Neo Geo AES is, though if I went to any gaming community online like atariage or digital press, everyone knows them, and you have to deep dive obscure imports or homebrews to surprise them.
To me Taito is almost always synonymous with fun and quality time. A bit too underrated I find. Their arcade action and soccer games rocked as well. I'm gonna buy a t shirt with their brand logo, hopefully I can find a legit one so that the cost of my purchase goes to that company.
They gave us the bubble bobble theme tune... for which we must be eternally grateful!
plus, Zuntata music
Ghost in the shell was pretty awesome... go anywhere in the environment, switch between first person and third, animated cut scenes. Blew my lil ps1 mind. Nice pick
yeah we played the shit outta that back in the day
I'm so impressed with the graphics and environments for a PS1 game, def need to check this out
I loved Illusion of Gaia when I was growing up. The transformations into the knight and spectre-thing were awesome
They were, but shadow was actually pretty tedious to play as. Thankfully he was introduced late into the game. Too many sinking through floors! Freedan was great for the long reach and that fireball was just disgustingly powerfull. So great to hear all these other people enjoying this game in childhood too. It was a brillaint game with a great story... so different from other rpgs at the time.
Man I love this channel so much. Such a cozy and inviting space to nerd out on retro games. Even my girlfriend who isn't super into video games said this is her favorite channel to fall asleep to cuz it's just so f****** cozy. Joe you are a gem and an irrefutable asset to the internet.
Ghost In the Shell was originally a Manga by Masamune Shirow - The mech you are controlling in the game is called a Fujikoma, in the later "Stand Alone Complex" show, they had a follow up variant, the sky blue Tachikoma.
2 episodes in 2 weeks?! What an honor. We can wait for every other Saturday though; don't burn yourself out, and stay healthy. Thanks Joe
Good ol High Seas Havoc.
Like the humour in this one. So flat-earthers are maybe just really into Mode 7 ?
Impossible...since Mode 7 has a curve.
I’m of two minds when it comes to boss life bars. I prefer it when there’s visible damage, maybe flashing critical points before they are destroyed. What I’m saying, is that lifebars are essential if you don’t show damage, but I prefer seeing a leg I need to cut through blinking red and showing damage.
New game sack, saturday tradition
Thanks for giving the 3 Quintet RPGs more love. They deserve every bit of it
Since you overlooked these games until part 6 of the series, I guess it's true.
Yo, that Saint Sword game is Tight-Oh!
Last week Illusion of Gaia turned 30 years old in Japan, while it remains my all-time favorite game 💙
Middle school me got a lot of feelings out of that game.
I loved that game. I remember going to Kmart down the street from me to pick it up and get the free T-shirt that came with it. I beat the game at least six times that game needs to be remastered in HD first the Switch
I tried getting into that game, but just couldn't. The English script is so bad... It really needs a proper retranslation. The game deserved better.
@@Patrick-bn5rpit’s not particularly important. The gameplay and music Carry it
@@opaljk4835 Ehhhhhh. No. The story is supposed to be super good and the shoddy script takes away from it. As does the censorship. The game is only "carried" by the gameplay because the script makes the story objectively worse. The story COULD compliment the gameplay better if it was of similar quality, but it doesn't.
Illusion of Gaia is one of my childhood favorites. Funny enough I only found out about it then when I borrowed it from my rpg loving grandma.
Grandma? Interesting. Tell me more about here, that's so cool.
My grandmother could speedrun the original Super Mario on NES, and also strangely could beat Nightmare on Elm Street in one sitting
just got illusion of gaia this week! The health bars are exactly like Actraiser 2.
Saint Sword was a cross between Altered Beast, Rastan Saga and a bit of Shinobi thrown into the mix. It could have been really good if it had improved graphics and sound.
Vigilante 8 gets pretty overlooked. Great 32 bit vehicular combat game
So, I have been watching your channel all night. Actually, I was watching last night and went to sleep with your channel running continually. It’s something I do with channels I like.
I woke up this morning with a number of your videos playing. I have to say, I really love your game coverage. You always go deep into what makes any game you are speaking about special.
Thank you.
For me, a criminally overlooked game would have to be SNK Vs. Capcom SVC Chaos. No one ever thinks of it as a fighting game, unless they were a NeoGeo fan.
I adore this game and think it is unbelievable fun. It features so many great characters from both camps. The graphics are nice and I like the way SNK redrew the Capcom characters with a lot of respect. A great game that was loaded with that King of Fighters style.
"The main bad guy of the game, Bernardo, sure looks like another bad guy whose name starts with a B..." Is it Captain Biscuits, the one-eyed frisky feline with 2 peg legs and a wooden tail? I'd know that mangy cat anywhere. Well, anywhere except maybe under there...
Regarding 18 Wheelers, i think you forgot about one important feature, slipstream. You tailgate someone ahead of you and you will get additional speed until you move away from them. I think that's why you ran out of time quickly.
Also, if you manage to finish each stage before your rival does, you will be treated with the respective bonus levels.
Loved playing Soul Blazer. As Joe said, it was a lot of fun seeing what would generate next in the town as you destroyed the generators.
All the ending skits with Joe yelling, I think he secretly wants to be in a death metal band.
While Soulblazer and Illusion of Gaia didn’t sell well upon their original releases, they’ve since gained quite a cult following and are widely recognized among retro gamers today. I wouldn’t think of them as “criminally overlooked”, at least not anymore. The other games here I’ve never heard of at all, and they look pretty good!
18 Wheeler was pretty well known at the time. From the arcade version through to the DC and PS2 ports
The Switch has clouded my perspective on a lot of the older games. The latest generation has cleaned up the frustrating aspects of gaming. Maps are better, controls are tighter, save points are added to make impossible sections achievable. The list goes on 👌 I enjoy many retro games to this day. But the games with flaws really stick out now. Crazy how times change!!
18 Wheeler is a lot of fun, like a mix of Crazy Taxi and Big Mutha Truckers
Big mutha truckers is its sequel
@@drunkensailor112Big mutha truckers isn't by Sega.
@@GameSackJoe is by Sega
@@GameSack my bad. I remember its commercial and thought it was by sega, but it wasn't
@@mrbransformer4184 Joe is Sega branded
Awesome, just awesome. Joe is the man when it comes to retro content. Thanks for keeping this channel going, Joe, as it is greatly appreciated by myself and many others.
Best moment of the week
I was about to choke on water while drinking when you screamed MODE 7 AHHHHHHHH
Joe with the fresh fade. Coming through with the reliable and entertaining gamesack. Love these. Thank you Joe! Keep it up man. We really appreciate the episodes and you as a fellow gamer. Salute❤
GameSack, you are just walking around doing nothing. 😂
I sincerely hope you never stop Game Sack Joe
Ah what a good time to watch Game Sack over breakfast
So glad Illusion of Gaia is getting some kind of love. Probably my most favorite SNES game.
I never thought Saint Sword would get covered, its one of my childhood favourite games and the music is fantastic.
Joe, you're a real Renaissance man. I love all the effort and passion you put into these videos.
Summing up what it was like to be a gamer at the time... "No, this is SOULblazer. You want SKYblazer. Slightly different font on the box sir." 😂❤
I like how in the trucking game they put a massive chrome fan in the truck bed to show off the directional reflections.
Why the end music feels so nostalgic yet i havent heard of it anywhere but here on game sack.
I will never tire of 90s extreme advertising parody.
Joe, you did it. It's time to release all of your greatest hits endings in a compilation video.
I started playing Terranigma yesterday. The graphics are fantastic and the music is great.
I own the arcade cabinet for 18 Wheeler. I didn’t know about King Of Route 66 until much much later when I got it for the PlayStation 2. Both games have a lot of charm to them and I’m glad you got to talk about both of them.
I hate the modern world, but I love Game Sack.
Another episode back to back Sundays. Thank you 🙏
Illusion of Gaia--no, the cannibalism still there lol.
2:43 That's why I don't use these widescreen modes on these old systems, even on PS2 because I think stretched 2D images are more annoying than 4:3 image on 16:9 TV.
Gauntlet Legends on the N64. It’s known as a great game, but NEVER gets talked about when discussing the N64.
If Saint Sword is like Game Sack, I’ll get myself 34 copies immediately!
Now i feel the need for a Mode 7 T-Shirt.
I had to pick up ghost in the shell for my PS1 collection. I'm pretty sure i heard of it from a game sack video. It's probably overlooked because a North American copy loose goes for $100. Worth every penny in my opinion. Now i think I'm going to need King of route 66 for my ps2 collection and no i never heard of it before this episode. Thanks Joe for the best video game channel on CZcams, even without Dave
Thanks Joe, any sack dropped from you is a sack well earned!
I receive this sack into me.
GameSack, don't ever stop! I really enjoy you talking about video games, doesn't really matter the type. Thanks for all the videos.
Thx for making videos Joe.
In all my years as a Mega Drive fan, I have never known of the existence of Saint Sword. Looks like a decent game. Thanks Joe!
Thanks for all the awesome vids, Joe!
Walked away from my phone during the Soul Blazer scene, totally heard Act Raiser sound effects and style of music. I can't believe I never knew about it.
Was not expecting a new Game Sack episode this Sunday, but I'll take it!
Soulblazer Is amazing, it's a shame that nobody even rip-off the style of souls and releasing them
Let’s hope there’s never a lot against sarcasm. Otherwise, Joe will be a criminal within five minutes.
4:10 - Soul Blazer, that part reminds me of Dark Cloud.
considering that people refer to the collection of Quintet's top-down action/RPG games as the Soul Blazer Trilogy, I don't think it's so much overlooked as it is... overshadowed by it's "Sequels", Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma.
That Ghost in the Shell game was great. The PS2 sequel wasn't quite as great.
The PSP game is fun.
I actually enjoyed the ps2 game. 3rd person shooting and a bit of stealth.
We need a new GITS game
I still feel guilty watching the Major wriggle around in that intro *blush*
@@Sandman_Slim I haven't played that one, but I hear good things.
The Warriors on the PS2. Used the full cast of actors from the movie for the voices, amazing quality, great atmosphere, great combat, great ending, and two player 👍
super excited to see this drop first thing waking up! odd choice to cover GitS again for the first selection, but i appreciate giving it more in depth coverage than in the past. Game Sack has unmatched consistency in format, style, humor, and quality. keep it up, Joe!
As an Asian person I think the Asian guy in the trucker game is 100% appropriate and necessary. No racism lol
Well at least the House of Representatives stopped overlooking the criminality of George Santos 😂
Learned something new from this episode. The existence of King of Route 66. Also from the title screen developed by Sega AM2.
I started playing Soul Blazer a few days ago based on the recommendation of this video. Holy moly this is an awesome game! It really holds up even after all these years.
6:55 Thank you for being one of the few CZcamsrs that know how to pronounce Taito properly.
High Seas Havoc it's one of my favorite games for the Mega Drive and one of the most difficult, the last two levels are very exaggerated in terms of difficulty, that final boss of the penultimate level, the Wolf, geez man.
But I love this game, the soundtrack is amazing.
The 1st Game Sack video for December. Interesting games featured in this one too.
Fun fact: the bug in 'Ghost in the Shell' was USB-C well ahead of it's time.
Just what I need the day before going to the retro store! :D
06:47 That is some insane coverart
sack daddy is the best talker about decades old video games
Thanks for talking about Saint Sword. I bought that game at a mall in Okinawa, Japan when I was stationed there in 1991-1992. I sold all my Genesis and SNES games to buy the PlayStation in the mid 90s. I had been trying to figure out what in the heck the name of that game was. I remember liking it but being frustrated with some of the mazes in the levels.
Best retro gaming channel on CZcams by far
I never got to play High Seas Havoc, but I remember reading about it in EGM or Diehard Gamefan and liking the design. It's so overlooked people don't even include it in mascot platformer discussions.
Ghost in the Shell isn't specifically based on any particular story of the series, it's an entirely original plot, but the characterization most closely resembles the original manga as opposed to the movie or TV show.
I can’t be alone in thinking the High Seas Havoc OST rips
You've probably already talked about it, but I love Crusader of Centy for the Genesis.
The only reason it doesn't get completely overlooked is because it's infamously one of the most expensive games for the console. But it's legitimately a good game without just being a collector's piece!
Great shout on Saint sword. Loved that game growing up
oh, dear lord, FINALLY got that decades old nostalgia itch. i remember playing High Seas Havoc when i was younger and thought of it as some knock off, slower sonic game. but i was impressed by the sprite art nonetheless. i ended up forgetting the game's name and been looking all over since.
I hate that we live in a world where Bubsy has gotten multiple shots, but High Seas Havoc can't get a follow-up. I think they could make something great out of it these days!
As a European I'm very familiar with the Quintet games. Terranigma and Illusion of Time/Gaia are absolute gems! Soul Blazer is also great! Hope the people in the US will get a proper release of Terranigma at some point. Best SNES Action-RPG!
getting assaulted by mode 7 is my favorite trigger
Absolutely my favorite youtube channel, one thing Joe when playing streets of rage, which I know you do when getting thrown by an enemy push up and the jump button, you'll land on your feet, and I absolutely love ghost in the shell on ps1. Love ur dedication, big thumbs up 😅😅
I remember playing Illusion of Gaia on an emulator in the late 90s. It's a very enjoyable game.
Game Sack. The reason I stay up late on Saturday nights even though I'm old.
The villain in that last game looks like a cross between Bowser, and King K. Rool, lol.
Joe please do more episodes like this where you review and recommend games and fewer where it’s a long list of game with one particular feature.
