My take would be that he is not, he just enjoys giving lessons, especially in a field he has such confidence in. The guy loves feeling superior.

@@osamodaboy Giving advice and 'teaching' people isn't usually a "I'm superior and I love feeling more knowledgeable than others" kind of thing, atleast in most cases. I enjoy helping people out with their technical issues or explaining concepts they may not know about not because it makes *me* feel smart, but I do like to bring people up to speed so we can actually talk about something, fix an issue that's plaguing them because god knows I hated having to deal with said issue myself before I figured it out, etc. If it was an ego/I'm better attitude, there are many other ways he would've gone about it without actually helping him.

I honestly don’t think this is the moment when Walt becomes Heisenberg. This is the moment where he realized he likes being Heisenberg
It's the watershed moment where he begins to not care about the Walter facade anymore.
It's the same episode as when he apologises to hank for that scene in their backyard when he makes Walt Jr drink, and he means that apology because he wasn't proud of himself. In this scene, however, he feels good.

This scene, more than any other, demonstrates that Walt is in fact, an addict. He was free…out…clean but not sober. He was in early recovery but sees the supplies…a trigger. His addiction was power.

How is "I am the danger" badass in any capacity? Walter says it while not knowing where Jesse is, being scared shitless of Gus and having told Hank that Heisenberg was still out there, and he only said that because Skyler suggested that he was scared and wanted to turn himself in
So no, Walt looks pathetic right there and is trying to make his wife believe he has any power. Here at least we know his name has become big enough to scare low level dealers and he's using it

This is the sort of rush that made Walter love this "work". At the end he didn't do it for the money, he just loved it.
There is no one specific moment we can point to when Walt became Heisenberg, and that's what's so brilliant about his character arc; it was never like flipping a switch, he *always* had that in him, we just saw it gradually breech the surface more and more until it took over his identity. Heisenberg was there from episode 1, the meek school teacher family man wasn't truly Walter White, it was the ego suppressing the id.
I think the first appearance of Heisenberg was when he stood up to Walt Jr's bully, the first foe he conquered. Since then, his bravery and confidence gradually grew.

If there were 2 paths in walter's life; 1 being the path of a regular teacher and the other being heisenberg.... I like to think that his choice was made the moment he chose to sell the drugs to Gus and his crew over attending the birth of his daughter (when he made the drop at that dingy motel). At that moment in time he made the choice.

His face was so vicious at that scene. Cranston is really an awesome actor.
His range is unreal, even in this show alone.
Remember the days when Cranston was just sweeping the Emmys year in, year out and it was not until BB got over that anyone else got a look in.

One of my favorite things about Bryan’s performance is the gradual change in demeanor Walter slips into as he finds himself more and more comfortable in his identity as Heisenberg. The actor, at the beginning of the series, has a very timid and tense look about him. Almost as though he's always on edge within himself. But, as the series continues, and as the transformation completes itself, that tense and timid look completely disappears. Until his movement is completely and utterly fluid. Beautiful work.

So, it was the unknown and the missing information about who that guy is, so he backed off and didnt beat him up, chances where there that he might end in some basement with his family to get tortured or what not before killed. Why take the risk?

The level of detail in this show is insane. Walt breathes the same air as he does in the next episode. Amazing detail and consistency
If you look closely, he breathes in every episode before and after this one as well. The continuity is incredible.

Love this scene so much. He‘s walking alone to two guys who could easily knock him down.. but then they realize that he’s Heisenberg and they know the stories. Great!
This was a huge test for Walt, and absolutely his most badass moment. He decided right then and there he was going to see if he had what it took to be the kingpin, stood up to a man twice his size and got him to back right down with five chilling words.
Twice his size is a stretch. Guy was fat and out of shape.

In a series filled with amazing scenes, this one always stood out to me. It starts off so innocently, then turns sinister, just like Walt. Brilliant.
That smile from Walter at the end of the scene. You can see that he truly enjoyed the whole thing.
It was all about the pure power of the moment. The tough guy in the sleeveless shirt attempts to intimidate Walt, only to be stared back down by Heisenberg. The rush from that kind of power is nearly animalistic and more addictive than any drug on the street.
Who wouldnt, being feared like that is every mans dream, there are wars all over the world, and 2 big wars in the past not mention during the medieval era, all that wars, suffering, only to get that one thing, being feared

This moment is the most important for the beginning of Heisenberg. It's the character's ecstasy, when WW feels running through his veins that he is now really Heisenberg. For me, one of the best scenes in the series.

I'd argue that walt was always heisenberg, just that upon learning he had cancer he was finally able to stop being a reserved person
When he let Jane die, was when he committed to the ends justify the means mindset.
I'd argue that he truly became Heisenberg when he met Tuco for the first time. Not only was it the first time he actually called himself Heisenberg, but it was truly the first time he went full beast mode when he blew the place up.

God, this scene has so much more power after finishing the series. The beeps from the grocery machine and zooming in to that sudden realization. He didn't want to be Walter White, he didn't want a normal end, or to go out quietly. He wanted to be Heisenberg, and got right back to business.

The most pivotal moment in the series. This is when we understand that Walt can't help himself, and his ego. Gilligan said something along the lines of wanting Breaking Bad to be about what makes a person become "Scarface", and this moment is genius in showing Walt's pesonal flaws leading him down the path of corruption.

Walt manages to fulfil his fantasy of being respected, admired, feared all at once
And his old age gives the impression of experience - "fear an old man in a world where men die young"
But it's all a farce - walt is a novice, and hasn't even been involved the criminal underworld for even a year at this point.
And this is what the show's about: these performances of power by walt which have no substance, but even then, manage to curate heisenberg's legend around the globe

I would attribute it to the decades he spent repressing his anger and passions so when he finally revealed it all, it came crashing out like a missile. The shy, timid, boring, insecure, nerdy Walt wasn’t the real person; Heisenberg was. Even tho it was for less than a year, Heisenberg was the personality he’d wanted all along

i don't think it is. Its more like, he has nothing to lose. he finally let go of living a life under fear when he receives the cancer news. He says so himself in one Episode where he talks with another patient. He is powerful coz he can kill knowing he might die in the process .
This scene lives and dies with the music and this song by TV on the radio is just perfect. Completely encapsulates the entire vibe of the scene and elevates Cranstons performance ten fold. Watched this scene the other day for the first time as part of a long overdue first watch of this series and it’s moments like this that cement why people have held this show in such high praise for so many years. Man.

Good transition from offering useful tips (Walter White: Teacher) to essentially threatening them with death if he ever encounters them again (Heisenberg: Drug Lord)…… truly remarkable scene!
It's just his ego mounting. At first he wants to show that he's more knowledgable, smarter, and in complete awareness of the situation. Then he decides to go a step further. He's not trying to help, he's showing off.

It was chemistry teacher Walter teaching a lesson to a guy who looks old enough to be his student, or at least around the same age as Jesse. Him dropping the paint, "white" paint im guessing is him embracing Heisenberg.

How can you fight someone who you can’t intimidate? The first full Heisenberg scene, nothing held back

There is more to it then that. He also feels threathened already that Walt can expose him with what he is doing. Stay out of my territory is a threath but also implies if you listen then we won't have any problems. There is more than just intimidation also mutual respect I think.
The main reason this scene is so great is the fact how this episode was relatively uneventful, it was mainly Walt just decorating his house, but this one scene makes it all worth it cus it rlly shows how dispute attempting to act like he can just go back to his normal life, Heisenberg was still there the whole time hiding behind Walt like a mask.
Yes... he stays the whole episode trying to get his mind off of it, trying to convince himself that he doesn't need that life, so cool..

The best way to describe this scene is not as the moment Walt becomes Heisenberg, but as the moment he realizes he enjoys being Heisenberg.
Of all the hundreds of epic BB / BCS scenes, this is undoubtedly my favorite of them all.

I don’t remember any actor being able to pull off those eyes of a killer like he does.
Scenes like this could really go awry if not for Bryan Cranston's incredible grasp on the material. Breaking Bad can be a bit cartoony at times, but Cranston makes Walter White nuanced, deplorable, sympathetic, and a badass all at once. I honestly don't think there will ever be a better lead in a drama series.

If I remember the episode correctly Walt was at a point where he considered to stop cooking, so basicly they weren't competition at that point. But seeing them and getting annoyed by his ordinary life let him overthrow that decision.

I love how this shows the power of presentation. Heisenberg is starting to become a myth at this point, so he lets his reputation do all the work. But at the end of the day, he’s just an insecure and egotistical man. That being said, if you give Walter time to prepare and plan, he can be very dangerous.

Don't think it's just smoke and mirrors. Walter truly becomes Heisenberg and ends up slaughtering so many people.

I still believe this is the best scene of the entire show. Even better than the masterpiece "Say My Name".
Besides, the genious small easter-egg which is easy to miss is how Walter finally leaves the WHITE paint on the shelf behind and incarnates Heisenberg for the first time when going out to confront the "invaders".
Another Easter egg on the wall of the store - 'Building Supply' in the background as he goes out to confront them.
His actions will indeed build supply for his product.

Amazing scene, it does an amazing job at showing us how Walters kind personality tries to help these guys by correcting them and giving them hints as if he would still be a highschool teacher. The guy gets scared and runs away, because his cover was blown in seconds. Walter isn‘t used to people being scared of him, usually it‘s been the other way around. He proceeds with his groceries, still processing what just happened, as Heisenberg slowely comes into light. He appreciates the fear he caused in this young man, he feels power. This sensation gives him the confidence to face them outside, fearless and determined. As he pushes them out of his territory, he just smiles. He is no longer Walter White, a frightened school teacher who struggles to barely get respect from anyone. He is Heisenberg, powerful and feared. Masterpiece, this is literally the moment where he‘s breaking bad.

The entire episode, Walt spends obsessing over the water heater, and the rot. He can't go back to living like a normal man after having had a taste of power his chemistry can bring.

This was the scene that cemented Breaking Bad as my all time favorite TV Show, it genuinely gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. The way Walt tilts his head as he tells them to stay out of his territory is such a nice detail, to me this was where Walt truly became Heisenberg

I had been hearing a lot about this show, but I've just started watching it recently. Everything I've heard about it, every praise is absolutely deserved. Just awesome.
I think I watched the whole thing in a couple of months. I heard so much about what a big deal the show was supposed to be and I figured I’d take it in and see what the state of the art was considered to be. Glad I did. One of TV’s greatest achievements.

For me this scene - supported by the beeping countdown - is when his transformation concludes. Choice of theme, cuts on point, lighting, camera work, script, directing, cast.. the composition goes far beyond again.

What set Walt off? It wasn't the mere act of finding a rival cook, it was the sound of their product being scanned for cash. Walt's rightful cash.
Season 5 doubled down on this. He isn't interested in the money itself, he's interested in being the only one making it.
