It's a shame how Americans don't listen to non-English language music. Our celebrities are just as popular overseas than in the US. It's only fair we do the same for others.

So I hope other people try it, cause it is rather refreshing to just have the beat and emotion of the song to tell the story. Sorry, I ramble, a lot, soooo...

+AwesomeAlyssa Good on you, never stop exploring! And indeed, many more should follow in those steps. It's just a waste of time and imagination to limit yourself to what you know best. But then again, I think there are far deeper reasons why America (in general) decides not to do so. Imagine a foreign artist "stealing" away a part of the income of the music industry.

I actually did not think about this during the time his album came out. But, American music artists really could take a lesson from Stromae in terms of creating dignified art. Some artists are making popular songs in the U.S., but the meaning is very surface level and does not really reach the core of our soul like Stromae's messages. I mean, just take the example of comparing Papaoutai with a song that recently came out called WAP. This demonstrates the difference between him and the other artists.

I speak Spanish & English, love Korean and Japanese pop music, Portuguese bossa-nova, German industrial rock and anything that “speaks” to me at emotional level. Music is the universal language and after living many years in USA I would say that is a matter of education and lack of desire for learn about other cultures with admiration and respect. Unfortunately for many musicians & artists this is a desirable market and some will try to make it while others are perfectly fine in their own niches. I wish everyone would make an effort to learn and listen specially now that is so easy to translate lyrics if you want to know the meaning of a song. BTS is the best group of artists right now, but they were big many years ago at international level, just here was unknown because of the language barrier and discrimination. As an ARMY myself I just feel sad for others but happy-happy to be able to recognize good music globally.
Stromae is an amazing artist, so creative. Only 255+MM here don’t know it yet….

I miss his music! He was so energetic and unique. I think it’s so sad that in America and U.K we tend to not listen to non English lyrics. It’s such a shame because he music is so powerful!

i totally agree that more non-english music should be popular here. Yea america has a lot of spanish in their hits, but i feel like it tends to only be used in a sexy context? i dont know if that makes much sense with the way i explain it but id enjoy if there were more emotions conveyed in non english songs than the simple message of grinding in a club or talking about how hot someone i. i think french would be amazing to hear in american pop as well as other genres
