    I can’t believe they showed that footage of all the poor souls that lost their lives in the Rwandan genocide with no warning at all and not even for him, who’s father was murdered there as well!! How triggering for him and how cruel on the part of these show organizers! Do disrespectful and then he’s supposed to do a normal interview after seeing that footage and having to talk about it! So sad! Stromae Paul, more than deserved the years of Normal life he took and it was generous of him to put out another album!

    • @eliasgoyvaerts3348
      @eliasgoyvaerts3348 Před 2 lety +8

      Agreed, but it's television honey.. he knew what was going to happen during the show. All the "where is the camera?" is all fake

    • @Churros1616
      @Churros1616 Před 2 lety +43

      There was no need to show this footage anyway. I would have liked a warning, very triggering. Rwanda is a totally different nation today then during the genocide. So don’t understand why they showed such graphic videos.

    • @NH-ge4vz
      @NH-ge4vz Před 2 lety +7

      What the fuck is "triggering"

    • @osteogenesisdev5268
      @osteogenesisdev5268 Před 2 lety +17

      Who says they gave no warning to him at all ahead of time? Also, it's shown in context to the Rwandan genocide, both in terms of the magnitude of it as well as the colonialism-related causes of it, it's effectively for the same reason that they often show the piles of bodies when discussing world war 2. Also he even says that while it affects him, that it would be way worse for someone that had actually been there, so don't act so offended on his part. You are trying to speak for someone else for your own gain and to seem morally virtuous.

    • @osteogenesisdev5268
      @osteogenesisdev5268 Před 2 lety +30

      @@Churros1616 Do you even speak Dutch? If not, that would explain it. They are explaining the context and extent of the Rwandan genocide, in most other countries they actually show the casualties caused, rather than obfuscating the truth, the American way.
      Should footage of World War 2's casualties also be memory holed just because it might "trigger" some people and the fact that Germany is different today? We all know these places are very likely to be different today.

    Every time I hear a new song or even this interview, I acquire even more respect for Stromae as a person and as an artist. I know no French, and I was originally attracted to the music, and only later learnt the meaning of the song (Papaoute for example). Nevertheless, I find him an amazing and deep artist whose music transcends language. I am amazed in this interview by his honesty (admitting that his music is largely a selfish endeavour), and his humility (I can't speak for a country). I think it is this, together with his talent, and his depth of perception that has made him a hit around the globe.

    • @depassage5202
      @depassage5202 Před 2 lety +3

      When he says he's composing and writing songs for him, it's not about being selfish, it's about not wanting to create according to the public expectations.
      He wants it to be the other way around. He creates whatever he creates, and then the public likes it or not. He doesn't want to fit to the public expectations. Here lies his honesty.
      Apart from that detail I totally agree with your comment ☺️.

    Twan is -sorry to say- one of the worst interviewers to have...at least when it is about personal/emotional topics. He is great when you need to get to the bottom of things as you were a ruthless journalist. He is telling an awfull story of his father....how can your response be so cold, so factual to continue to ask where is the microphone and just continue? You need to show empathy, build in time or silence to acknowledge what was said. It is not a question factory... give a coin and get an answer... gosh I liked Twan very much, this is heartbreaking...

He's obviously ADD and highly sensitive. i have severe difficulty to listen to a lot of his music. i love it. i admire and somewhat envy his ability to dissociate (even as a coping mechanism, but sharing with people is maybe more important) , but you cannot expect someone to just deal with some severely traumatic experiences by chucking some imagery at them. dont they have some idk psychologic professionals. g_d we are a dumb blunt nationality .

    Dang, some journalists are janky, why bring up the Rwanda thing & his father’s death in such a way. That was trifling: i feel like some interviews i’ve seen they want to talk Papaoutai just to bring up his dad; instead of just discussing being a dad: which may not come naturally for some.

      They're not translating it, the automatic captions assume the words being said are in english. So they just put an english word that sounds closest to the dutch one lmao

    I thought it was disgustingly bad form to spring the Rwandan genocide pictures on Stromae whose father was a victim of that horror. The tv journalists did it to him during an interview in Côte d’Ivore also. Cheap shot!
