For ventilation, you can build two soundproof boxes, each with a maze of right angles that dissipates the sound. One has air blown in from vent, the other blows air out to wherever.
Hi Landon, Thank you very much indeed, for the clarification, between sound proof (decoupling the room and air tightness) and acoustic treatment (the acoustics of your room have more-to-do with sound quality), huge misconception, so I've searched, and: the Foam Panels - Their Real purpose, is to absorb sound reflections, removing the natural reverb from the room, so that those reflections, do not get recorded, and what remains, is the direct sound from the instrument to the microphone. Take care.
Cool sound room, well thought out! It's decades since I built a house for myself and now like many youtube guitar enthusiasts it's only apartments. Most of us will not even have the option of installing sound foam on walls from strict tenant agreements. Amps set at so called 'bedroom volume' are misleading since it will still give you noise complaints in many buildings. Headphones are tolerable but I miss the air moving from an amp speaker. We need a prefab, self contained, sound proof POD that we can buy and install in any apartment. BTW you didn't give us the dB reading outside the window, in my experience that is a weak spot for sound proofing especially with a heavy footed drummer.
That's a really cool room. Glad to see you have a sponsor in this vid. (probably the only time I've said that.) As far as the acoustic foam goes, I'd say random patterns are best, but I'm sure yours is fine the way it is.
Ok nice. The meter really helped. I will build a new house next year, and I have a mancave/studio room for playing guitar, and also jam with a drummer and bassist. I think I have the walls covered, but my weakest point still is the door. In my initial draw, I had 2 door system (with a mi i hallway like a cinema), but I had to remove it as it took too much space of other rooms…. I don’t want to disturb my wife while we are jamming. Also when I’m inside the room, I don’t want to be disturbed by outside noises when she has friends over.
There is actual rubber sheeting made to go up between studs and drywall to isolate sound in more higher priced condos I’ve worked on. However I did work on an actual studio that did mostly commercials and other advertising and that was a lot of double walls and speciality caulking with baffling built into the construction of the rooms themselves. It was also a major pain in the ass because none of the building materials fit in the elevator and it was on the 4th and 5th floor
@@landonbailey it was heavy rubberized sheeting on 8ftx48ft rolls it weighed a ton and took three guys to hang. it was supposed to cut down noise between the condo units. i hated every minute of it
Sure beats the tarps and old carpeting I use. I wonder if they'll make active sound barriers, sort of like noise reduction headphones. Or maybe they do already..
So the earplugs reduce the volume by 16dB. I have a boost switch on my Les Paul that gives you an extra 15dB, so that'll almost sort out those ear plugs :)
Really impressive job. Did you build it all on your own? If so well done!! Always enjoy your videos and sense of humor. And you sold me on the earplugs. Also bought The Godin Stadium HT in Havana brown. Has become my favorite guitar.
It doesn’t look like you have much opportunity for air circulation in that room. It must be pretty hot and uncomfortable to spend long periods of time in there.
That was a concern, however with the cooler climate most of the year it's not an issue. In the summer I usually open the inside door which provides air flow

I think you did an amazing job.Impressive Landon, you should start a side business sound proofing rooms lol.
cheers!

Thank you, it's sunny here
Floating floor helps too. Air tightness!!!!
that's true. Luckily this is over cement. However on the cement is 1 inch rigid foam then 5/8" tongue and groove plywood. then laminate flooring
gosh time goes fast , I remember when you did this ,
That sure was a good use of space
hey thanks! it paid off
Great job! Wish I had a room like that.
Thank you!

ya it's been great. Having these earplugs will help my hearing long term for sure
Super cool. I would love a room like that. Maybe if my kids ever leave home; they seem too comfortable.....
Ugh that’s so awesome. I’m very jealous. Good for you dude🤘🏼
Wow, amazing result!
Thank you! Cheers!
the sound proof room construction musta cost an absolute fortune. major difference though.
from memory it wasn't that expensive. but it was back in 2011 so I don't recall the exact cost.

Landon, you're the Canadian Paul Rudd, haven't aged one bit. Thanks for the consistent content brother!

I used to try carpets on the wall of an old apartment years ago
i need to do some sort of soundproofing, every night i play with shitty earphones or unplugged so i dont bother the baby
"And I said NO..... problem at all" LMAO
And then one day you find, 10 years have got behind 🥲!
Very impressive results. The Chief wants you to report to Control Headquarters in the morning and help design the new Cone of Silence ☺
Missed it by that much!

This was cool man...that's some serious work done in that room...you'd never know obviously until you told us but wow..nice job 🤘😁🎸🎶🔥
it took lots of planning. that was around 2009.
@@landonbailey really cool..super ambitious
I love Eargasm ear protection!!! Fantastic! What is the decibel reading in the room right above your soundproof room?
I think I measured years ago in another video. Here's the playlist: czcams.com/play/PLUKDOD2AiVChK0LaGRWNprtkej__U23NK.html
@@landonbailey thanks buddy, I will check it out.
Both doors closed, cuts the noise level immensely.

same!

I did everything except the electrical work. congrats on the Godin. great guitar!

Will hanging guitars on an exterior facing wall cause damage to the guitars?
Probably if there were extreme environmental changes. My wall is insulated very well and doesn't change temperature
Can you play at night and not wake up people sleeping? I wonder how that room would do if you had a drum kit in it.
yes
I remember the first video & I didn’t ask this question that I’m now curious about. What do you hear directly on the floor above? Thanks 👍🤘
I don't hear a thing! But seriously some sound does carry through, but it's similar to the measurements outside the door that I showed in the video
@@landonbailey Thanks Landon 👍🤘
Landon how's it going
Good! how are you?
@@landonbailey good so far . your basement came out good . I can't build one no basement here uh yup

I need to check!
That's my crying room.
this is the type of comment the original video had! 🤣
It helps keeping people from hearing your abduction victims as well?
🤣 I kid! I kid!!
that comment was left many times on the original video. not kidding!
For some reason I was waiting for the house to blow up again!
Nice work Landon , you aren't just a useless guitar player are you!?
