- With features specifically catering to the younger player, the Alvarez RS26 guitar is perfect for a beginner student. This 3/4 size guitar feels great and is easy to play, with diecast tuners that keep the guitar in tune, perfectly-spaced action, and smooth fretts that make it extra comfortable to slide up and down the neck.
If you're looking for an affordable, high-quality starter guitar for a younger player, this student model guitar may just be the perfect fit!

I have one. I am one year away from 80 years old. Have been playing guitar for over 60 years. When I play around the house this is the guitar I grab. Plain, simple and made the way an instrument should be made.
I LOVE this comment - so happy to hear from life long guitarists. It's always inspiring to know that there are years and years of music to be played. Cheers!
As an old armchair picker with smallish hands, I play only small-body, short-scale instruments, and find the RS26 nice-sounding, high-quality, and very playable, at an incredibly low price. However, the one I bought online, (sight-unseen) came with sharp, protruding fret ends that need dressing.
I’m a small adult looking for a nice shorter scale nylon guitar, the RS26N. This reviews helps me with general quality review of the shorter Alvarez, in general. Very helpful! Thank you!
I just bought this guitar and I am amazed at the sustain. It is fun. I bought the burgundy model.
That's awesome! Our students have been really happy with them too! Hey - if you're looking into getting some lessons, we just started offering online lessons at www.masonmusicstudios.com - they are live and 1-1, and you can get matched with one of our amazing instructors. CHECK IT OUT!
"Solid A Sitka Spruce" is the way Reverb and Adorama have this listed in 2023. Have they upgraded the top to a solid?
how would you compare this with the LJ2 model? Thanks
Great question - The LJ2 is definitely an upgrade from the RS26. The RS is a student model and has entry level quality materials. The LJ is in Alvarez's "artist series," so it has a solid spruce top. Also, even though it's small, it has a rounded back which gives it a little bit of a fuller/more balanced sound. They are both great, it just depends on your budget and what you're after. We should have both in stock, so make sure to shop with us on reverb if you're in the market for one! Thanks!
What type of strings should I get for this guitar?? I know a lot has to do with preference but i'm still getting a feel for playing after playing for on and off for about 3 years now.
Lee Roy I like regular light gauge strings on this one. Personally I dig the Daddario strings, ej16s are a solid pick.
I know this is an older video but any chance you could provide some input on whether the RS26N (nylon string version) is a better/worse option for a beginner? My daughter is getting started and while the sound of nylon strings is just not the same (but not bad) I wonder if it is a better option for new (softer) fingers? Thanks!
This is a question we get a lot! Nylon strings are definitely softer on the fingers but don’t have the same tone as steel strings. The shape of the guitar has an impact on that too, but to your point, if she’s wanting to play popular music (anything not classical)- she’s going to want the sound of a steel string. One thing we recommend is buying a steel string guitar and putting silk and steel strings on it- it’s a bit of a middle ground- still sounds a little softer than a steel string, but it is closer than a nylon string guitar. Plus, as she develops callouses, she can replace the strings for $10 and be playing the guitar she wants to play. We really only recommend classical guitars to students who are studying classical music for that very reason.
@@MasonMusicRocks THANKS so much for replying. I like the idea of putting silk/steel on while she develops some callouses and then switching them out. I have played nylon but much prefer the sound of steel myself, so I completely agree with your thoughts. Since I originally commented we went out and purchased the Alvarez RS26 (steel string version) from our local music shop and my daughter is loving it. Sorry we didn't buy from you but our small town local music shop needs our biz. Thanks again for your reply and helpful input.
@@mkukuk totally understand! And good on you to support local. Let us know if we can ever help!
Bonsoir, cette Alvarez m'intéresse mais j'ai une question. Le constructeur dit que la largeur au sillet est de 41.6mm. Cela me paraît étroit, pouvez vous me le confirmer ? Merci
Salut! Ceci est traduit, donc pardonnez les erreurs. La RS26 est un modèle étudiant, elle est donc plus petite qu'une guitare traditionnelle. Je ne le décrirais pas comme étroit - juste plus petit. J'espère que ça aide!
What guage strings come on the RS26?
How would you compare the Alvarez RS26 to the Fender CD-60S, for a beginner with short, stubby fingers?
I think a little bit of apples and oranges. The Fender is a full size dreadnaught - the RS26 is a smaller body. The Fender has a solid top, which is a step up in quality, but the size is probably not going to be good if you have short fingers like me!
Hi, I'm thinking on pulling the trigger on this guitar. In the video it sounds sooo sweet but I wonder if you used any effects? It's exactly the kind of sound I'm looking for, warm and rounded, not very metallic if you know what I mean.
Ajax K we didn’t add any effects- just trying to get an authentic sound with our setup so it represents what you’ll hear at home when you get it!
Ajax K let us know- be sure to order from us on our reverb page and we’ll get it headed your way- free shipping!
I’ve been playing for 10 years and mostly play electric, but I’m digging a new affordable acoustic to replace my cheap sounding sx, do you think I could use one of these or better save up for a higher line?
Mørales if it was me, I would want a higher end acoustic after playing for 10 years. I would aim to get something with a solid top. For Alvarez, that would be the artist series. If you like a smaller body, the af60 is a good place to look. We sell a bunch of the af60shb mode and people love them.

Is this body smaller then the RF26?
Yes- it’s in between an rf26 and an rt26.
@@MasonMusicRocks rf26 body is like classic body guitar? I ask because i want play on guitar but i want small body the traditional dred.is it rf26 close to sound of rd26?
I hope I’m understanding your question correctly- the rf26 (folk size) sounds pretty different than the rd26 (dreadnaught). The larger size provides for more bass and a fuller/louder sound. The folk size has a very balanced tone and is more mid-focused, works great for finger style especially. I hope that helps!
Does this have a solid top?
No- the top on all of the regent series guitars is laminated spruce. Anything with an A at the beginning of the mode # is going to have a solid top and be a part of the Artist series. Hope that helps!
whats song called 4:30?
Christian Abanto it’s “Hide Your Love Away.” We have a how to video on that song actually-

Christian Abanto super cool! Right on! Enjoy playing it!
