Facts, I didn't know about J.K until a month away from the games release and then I started to worry cause I was like "Will people hate me?" because that's the world we live in. I worked at the Store that opened a few years ago in NYC and they were prepping us for the worst, protestors, people coming in the store with signs, people coming in with hidden mics trying to trip up employees & getting them to say things that's could be misused, etc. And we didn't experience that at all. 95 of guests were die-hard fans of the franchise, 4.9% didn't know about the franchise. Our biggest issue was asking folks to keep their masks on during those times.

Man, I dunno, turnabout is fairplay - so if it's so easy for you to buy the game, it's just as easy for you not to get it. That's like, making the choice to eat at McDonald's, it's an easy choice. I dunno man, telling someone to save $60 for something else seems like a win to me. Especially on something you can live without.
And about Nintendo and Lego, well... no duh. Alot of people have stopped buying Lego sets or from Nintendo for a while, whether if it's for this reason or not. Are the numbers sizable enough to make an impact on the market, no but denying the possibility of people already doing that to justify your purchase of a game.
And as for the no ethical consumption argument - one just can't use that when it suits them. It's not a shield against criticism, it's literally just an acknowledgement that buying things you need to live is inherently unethical in a capitalist system because everyone and everything is exploited to make your food, home, water, transportation, communications... Your leisure is only necessary to balance your emotional state, not to physically live. And if you need this one game to live - that sounds like an addict mentality to me.

I worked at the Store that opened a few years ago in NYC and they were prepping us for the worst, protestors, people coming in the store with signs, people coming in with hidden mics trying to trip up employees & getting them to say things that's could be misused, etc. And we didn't experience that at all. 95 of guests were die-hard fans of the franchise, 4.9% didn't know about the franchise. Our biggest issue was asking folks to keep their masks on during those times.

@@goodlordyogurt hes saying that the point of the boycott is that a purchase supports Rowling. Which in a very very miniscule way, is true. So logically, these people should also boycott on whatever TV channels rerun the movies, whatever distributors sell the movies, and like Keef mentioned, boycott LEGO and Universal who have to write checks to her too. The fact they made this oversight shows they didnt take even a split second to think about why they r boycotting and just wanted to hop on a hate train.

I legit lost a friend because of this whole thing. For me, the Harry Potter franchise is just a way for me to connect with the older members of my family; legit, all my aunts are massive fans to the point that all my cousins and I have seen at least ALL the movies at some point in our lives.
It's not that big of a deal, honestly.
If you lost a friend over this then they weren't really your friend, the fact people are actually severing ties with others over this is stupid.
