Why buy the M1 MacBook Pro instead of the M1 MacBook Air? I have at least 3 reasons! I think Apple may have messed up big time this year. The good thing is that they released two extremely powerful laptops; the bad thing is that they released two very similar laptops. I can only think of 3 reasons why the average user would even consider the MacBook Pro over the MacBook Air - and the fan is not one of them.
I have here is the cheapest model of the MBA, so the M1 chip with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage which in the US costs right under $1k and on this side I have the base model MBP, again with the M1 chip, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and this thing set me back $1300.
Normally, I would just lean toward getting the better device, but I just don’t know if I can justify spending $300 more for the MacBook Pro when there are some things I like better about the MacBook Air?

I got the Air. I prefer the physical function keys, totally fanless, and more comfortable wedge design. I think it is better in every way - apart from the additional battery life of the pro.

Solid comparison of the two. These were the two I was deciding between. Ultimately went with the Pro for the longer battery life. Those extra few hours are worth the difference IMO when traveling and not able to plug in

Thank you. I’m going to need to replace my Pro from 2014 soon and this is good to know. I’ve also been considering ditching the laptop and getting an iPad, but with accessories in the end it’s like the same price. I do appreciate their educator discounts though

The only reason I'd buy the Pro, would be because of the Touch Bar, but then again, I prefer knowing where the buttons are at all times. Which is the reason why I picked up the Air M1, as my first MacBook ever 😜 Great video!
Ace! I got my M1 MBP with 16GB and 1TB about a month ago as I like to edit videos, but it was also the only device that was available for me to collect immediately, whereas if I'd ordered the Air it would likely only have just arrived. I love the Touch Bar, you can hold the Fn key and it'll display all the traditional function actions, plus the in-app utilities are amazing. That being said, I'd have chosen the Air if both were available at the same time.

Got my Macbook Pro M1 512gb Yestrday. Gotta tell no air or windows comes even close. Btw got it coz air 512 was out of stock.😘. Parents had a heart attack after paying👍

Thanks for your review! I went from a 7 year old MacBook Pro 15 and bought the base M1 Mackbook Air hoping I would like the smaller screen and leaving the MacBook Pro. After watching the video, the Air 13" seemed like it had the specs for what I needed. Immediately after unboxing the M1 Air, I knew I wasn't going back to a larger and heavier MacBook Pro. The gold is a rose gold and so pretty! The keyboard is much easier to use. I think the air is so cute, and actually like the smaller screen. The speaker is louder and better than my older Macbook.

Yes of course you like it because a laptop should be small and thin. Very smart choice indeed. The pro is a waste unless you have a very specific need. Macbook pro ugly...

Thank you so much for this! No frills, straight to the point. I'm a medical student and I was in need of a laptop upgrade, and my default choice was the pro before the new M1 chips came out. I thought long and hard about what I would mainly use my laptop for, and aside from zoom conferences, making presentations, and typing up some papers, there's honestly not much else I would do on it. I have an iPad for most of my reading and note taking, and watching your video honestly saved me a lot of cash. Made my purchase two weeks ago, and I'm extremely happy with it so far!

@@carlyglh Hello, I opted to purchase the air! It's worked perfectly well for me, 4 months since I made this comment haha. I've used it for online exams, lectures, typing up some papers and making presentations, and once edited a video on final cut (it was fine too).

I got to build my old bosses M1 MacBook Pro and we got the 512gb SSD w/ 16gb ram. It was so fun ordering then waiting a month for it to ship direct from China lol. I setup with him and played with it. Absolutely addictive, I’d use it 24/7 if I had one and the battery seemed pretty fuckin tits.
I just picked up my first mac laptop. I used best buys leasing payment option and you can also use Klarna if you really wanna get your hands on these laptops 😉

Yes, definitely heard a difference in sound between the two. Air has less peaks and lows, smoother sound. Pro has Higher peaks, it is louder and crisper in sound.

First time MacBook user. I did originally look at the Air because I knew for what I was using it for, the Air would be fine, and it was cheaper. As it turns out, I ended up getting a refurbished Pro 512gb for cheaper and I love it. The Touch Bar comes in handy once in a while but I don't rely on it much, like I knew I wouldn't which is why I originally was going for the Air. I don't know if the two hour battery difference between the two would have been that noticeable though

An easy mod of adding a thermal pad between the M1 chip and the bottom cover virtually eliminates performance differences between Air and Pro.

The exact review comparison I needed. As a video editor and designer I was convinced that I needed the pro. Now I ready to purchase, and with this review the differences I wanted to know of are quite negligible. The wrist comfort is important to me and although I am in a tropical 🏝 climate, AC will help. Now I can get the Air in Rose Gold to coincide with my company colours.

Great comparison - I bought both, used at reduced prices, but in great shape. I like the fantastic portability of the Air for everyday use. The Pro is set up as a desktop workstation, usually attached to a 27" 4k monitor that the wife more for her hobby and crafting work. Both are great machines.

This just confirms my choice (mbp) due to my use-case, i.e. about 8 to 9 hours of heavy office work consisting of complex data calculation and CAD rendering (with a little music and video streaming when I need to stretch my legs a bit😉)

Very slight noticeable difference in microphone output/feedback. The MacBook Air had a slight distant-like feedback where as the MacBook Pro was slightly more clear & present. I currently own an older MacBook Pro model and will be in the market for my next laptop investment. Thank you for your time and sharing valuable information for the traditional consumer.

I bought the pro because I’m a programmer and I need performance over a big period of time. Also the Touch Bar makes it more user friendly and I need that. I would have loved to be able to connect two monitors and be a 14”... but at least it’s easy to carry.

Excellent spot on comparison and I also agree with what you think the pro could have been bettered kr really simply more pro like more ports, higher reso and bigger screen. I think these are intro models and some really big things are coming soon.
I can hear a difference between the pro and air mic's, there is more dynamic clarity on the Pro... but I'm also an audio professional, so I doubt the average consumer would notice or care.

I bought the MBA and absolutely love it. I went with the 8 core GPU and the 1TB SSD and it's handled everything I could throw at it. Sure it cost more than the base model, but I would have upgraded the MBPro similarly, so still saved money. No regrets at all.
The "non upgradable" always lives on as a factor.

I just want them to come out with a 15 or 16” MacBook Air!!! I need the bigger screen but don’t need the pro specs
You can buy just a separate larger monitor with an HDMI cable and basically have the two screens. I’m looking into doing that myself actually. I need a new computer for video editing. I have an old MacBook with Final Cut Pro but it’s giving me a difficult time with rendering times. I also have an older HP desktop with Adobe Premiere on it but I don’t know how to use that editing software nearly as well as Final Cut.
I ve been trying to make a decision about which one to buy for a while, this video made things much clear for me with lots of comparisons w lots of cons and pros, Thank u so much

@@autumniina3084 i also do photography and decided on getting 13" MBP with 16gb RAM. it hasn't arrived yet but very excited for it. I feel the higher RAM will be beneficial not only now but also in the long run.

But legitimate this video helped me make my decision on the MacBook Air, which gives me room to get that extra storage! I’m just going to be using it for school work and occasional media consumption! Got a good deal for Pro from Costco. $150 off for the 8gb 512gb which brought it down to just $100 more than the same config as the Air. So I went with the Pro for better charger.. better battery.. better screen brightness

I’m a graphic designer and got the 2020 Macbook Pro from work and bought the Air for personal use. I don’t think the Pro is much better and I’m glad I didn’t spent extra on it

I'm absolutely loving my Air (it's also my first Macbook, for context) but Lightroom really does kill the battery quicker than I'd like it to (but still I wouldn't swap it for the pro......)
