    My College Chamber Choir sang this with 4 others at Carnegie Hall NYC 10 years ago this past weekend. What an amazing experience! I will never forget as long as I live.

    So glad I found this - just exquisite! I already love the Requiem, and this group is superbly suited to perform it!

    This is very lovely version of this gorgeous piece of music. I have a real problem with the camera work though. Though we see the baritone and violin player for their solos, no where is the soprano visible. it is probably the most well known part of this requiem and we don't see her. That is a shame.

      Sorry about that, I sing in the choir and had only one camera so I had to select the view that captured most of the concert. The soprano solo was performed from the organ balcony at the back of the church and was sadly out of view, even for some of the audience.

    A quality offering of a wonderful composition. The intimate setting afforded one to hear the rich textures of the music. Thank you.

    Absolutely beautiful! I only wish the video had been flexible enough to feature the soprano on Pie Jesu who was always out of sight!

    The 11-member orchestra is wonderful!--a relief from the full-sized things. But then I love chamber-sized ensembles.
    At the same time, I wonder about the 33 or so choir members. Does this version call for that many? If not, why not experiment with maybe a third that number (maybe 10 SATBB voices, in addition to the soloists)? Then, both the individual instruments & individual voices may be heard more clearly, neither overwhelming the other?
    Just an idea. Of course, if the score requires it, never mind.

      @ClasTorehammar  Před 5 lety +2

      1earflapping The chamber choir has a standard 36 singer lineup, but if you are interested in hearing a smaller group there is also Maria Magdalena Vokalensemble (vocal ensemble, perhaps obvious..) which has 16 younger voices. I have a few recordings in my channel of Bach works by them and a period instrument ensemble.

      @@ClasTorehammar Thank you very much for your reply. Do you think that my idea of a small choir to go with the small ensemble is unworkable?

    • @ClasTorehammar
      @ClasTorehammar  Před 5 lety +2

      @@1earflapping Not at all, the score has 8 parts so that would be minimum. It is a totally different sound though, can be nice and delicate but some sections need a bit more weight to them, so I would think that at least 16 singers is better balanced.

      @@ClasTorehammar How interesting! Did you have any trouble balancing the size of the choir with the chamber orchestra? or did you use microphones for the orchestra?
