On Boxing Day 2015, we woke up to the worst flooding in many years. After seeing the dramatic Face Book posts from some of our friends I headed out to Hebden Bridge to see if we could help. It took nearly 4 hours to reach Hebden Bridge, a journey which normally takes half a hour, driving our 4x4 through bonnet deep water. I managed to collect the UAV, aircraft from our Sowerby Bridge studio gathering mobile phone footage on the way.
Within ten minutes of setting off I realised we were about to capture some historical footage that the world needed to see.
Once in Hebden Bridge we managed to capture the only Drone footage of the town under water taken by a professional drone company. Ourselves , Halo Vue.
Next, We headed back to the studio and created a short film of the floods. We then started to tweet. We tweeted to our contacts at ITV then the BBC. By Midnight we had been contacted by every News Channel in the UK, including, ITN, ITV News, BBC World News, Sky News, The Guardian, Yorkshire Post and many more. By the following morning the world started to see the extent of the floods with our footage getting 59 thousand views on vimeo in two hours and Millions of views on TV. Our story was now out there and began being retweeted by thousands of people. News Channels showed the footage over and over again.
A great example of how drones can be used for the good of the public.
