    Can I ask what was the point of those actions? Those houses were too radioactive or what ?

      I think it was to make more space to bury more stuff

      The whole area was contaminated, so they had to destroy their homes.

    The asbestos was probably more dangerous than the radiation.

      Radioactive dust on the roofs were the real killers. Skin not protected by masks were covered in radio active dust, and due to sweating of the crews,that stuff sticked on their skin.

      @@internetbodhi1009 i saw they were washing the roofs with some chemicals in the city. Couldn't they do the same there? At least it wouldn't be that bad for the liquidators

      @@Jeffcrocodile washing down roofs with chemicals caused even more problems, due to capillair effects. They should've vacuum cleaned that stuff. Would've been even more easier. But these guys were on a time clock and lots of things were completely new under these circumstances back then.
