The Army has a 2 mile PT test. And 3-6 mile runs all the time in Basic Training. Atleast for the Infantry. After basic training...depending on your unit, the PT just gets harder and harder. It did for me.

Just to clear one thing up. The Marine Corp is not a "branch" of the U.S. military as many people think. It is offically recognized as a branch of the U.S. Deparment of the Navy by the Pentagon & D.O.D. The same could be said for the Coast Guard as well. It does not receive funding from the D.O.D which it would if it were it's own branch. The Marine Corp receives funding from the Navy which receives funding from the D.O.D. Doesn't change the fact the Marine Corp is still one of the toughest units in the U.S. military's arsenal.
Coast Guard is Dept of Homeland but it's still military they go through BMT and get benfits the same as the others, there an armed services there just a live saving branch not a life taking. Marines are a sperate branch but Dept of the Navy. They all have a section of offices in the Pentagon. (I have no intention of sounding rude.)
i dont know anymore. the requirement has changed since i got out of the marines a few years ago. Your going to have to find that out on your own. Pay structure is the same with slight differences. A private E1 who is a combat engineer will be paid the same as a private E1 who is a grunt. Pay is the same for everyone, with slight differences, depending on what extra certificates you have. Jump wings, EOD, Diver etc.... just google "Military pay scale" and scroll to the bottom where it says E1.
speaking as a prior enlisted Marine, I often get asked by people who want to join but dont know what branch which would be the best for them. I always reply, what do you want to do or get out of the service? if your a young guy who just wants to join infantry than army or marines. If you want to learn a practical trade have a easy 4 yrs than join the navy. If your smart enough and want to serve but dont want to get your hands to dirty while learning a useful trade than the airforce is for you.
Can someone explain how Navy SEALs work? It seems like they do more army and marine type stuff. Also, marines nowadays seem like they do more army type stuff as well since the Middle East doesn’t really have beaches so can someone explain how they differ between Armies?
The Marines are the youngest branch. They were established in the 1700's but were under the department of the navy therefore making them navy until 1953 when they became their own branch.
They forgot about the "Legion of the United States" that came before the U.S Army, also the Coast Guard would be the oldest Branch of thew Military 1790, back then known as the cutter Service. the U.S Army wasn't created till 1798
well thank you for the correction, I always was under the assumption that it was just some some small org under the department of the navy, ( I guess you can make some sense of that) but thank you for bringing correction to my false statement
So where does Cyberspace fit into the military? Last I checked, The U.S. military can not upgrade past Windows XP becuase mission critical computers are too busy being at war all the time.
Depends, if you want to be there right when war starts Marines are for you. The are the first to be deployed and go head first into battle. Army goes a little after.
They said tanks when talking about the Army yet show footage of an AAV (amphibious assault vehicle-only the USMC has those) and "Honor, Courage, Commitment" is not the motto of the USN but the core values OF the USMC.
Sweden here... I like the 5 branches Personally I don't agree ( someone needs to be the old hag against the current ) The Coast guard in my opinion Should be in its own group like 1. Coast Guard 2. DEA 3. CIA 4. ? ( I don't know all the names ) The 5 "real "brances in my opinion are. 1. Army 2. Navy 3. Marine 4. Air Force 5. Special Forces / JSOC ( Joint Special Operations Command ) Sure they draft special forces from each of the 4 branches but there is a whole bunch of special training that is done afterwards and it is then overseen by one command. A delta is not doing the same as the army. The seals have something in common with the navy but can be used in a more specified way etc...
both infantry types get deployed around the same time. In fact you will sometimes see army and Marine infantry units operating in the same area. That whole "Marines are first no Army are first" crap doesn't really apply anymore. Color blindness might be a factor for discussion either recruiters but Im sure the Marines would take you anyways. The main differences in the two infantry types are tactics, weapons and technology, and overall treatment. Marine grunts are treated like crap.
are you asking what military branch should you join if you dont want to go over seas? If so i would say DONT join any branch. Even the coast guard deploys to war. I have personally seen Coast Guard in Iraq and Qatar. The ones in Iraq where sent in to train Iraqi sailors and patrol water ways and also do mine sweeping.
Its not that there treated like gold its just they get treated better and have nicer bases. Both branches utilize similar weapons but certain weapons used by the Marines arent utilized by the army and vise versa. It is true Army does get better equipment that part will never change. However in my opinion Marines receive better combat training. If you get a high ASVAB score I would HIGHLY suggest choosing a better job then Grunt.
thats a tuff one to answer. Army boot camp is designed for a 40 year old man to complete. Dont believe me just look at the PT requirements a solider must posses to graduate, and the fact that the army will accept 40yr individuals for enlistment. The USMC has a cut off of 29 with a 30 waiver if they are found fit enough to survive boot camp. If your going to do Marines start RUNNING! Marines are big on running! 3 miles under 28 mins but you better do it under 22mins. Army only runs 1.5 miles lol

Like I said, it's possible to switch while still under your contract, but it's not common. What branch are you even trying to get into? Start off with one, and I would recommend Coast Guard first.
Umm seals are special forces not a branch. Someone can become a seal if they join Navy, Marines, or Coast Guard. Coast Guard only selects 4 people a year to go into buds training though.
Coast Guard is definitely a branch of the military. The fact thag it operates under dhs instead of dod has nothing to do with the fact if is a branch of the military.
Forgot one of the most important "branches" the militia. The militia would be the largest "branch". The militia has participated in every war that has taken place in the U.S. and is basically ready for action at any time.
US National Guard is a component of the Army. Unless you're referring to these far right wing "militias" that have popped up over the past 30 years or so. Those aren't recognized by the U.S. Government as a military branch.
