  • Founded in 2019 by President Donald Trump, the United States Space Force is the newest branch of the US military. Since then it has been met with jokes, misunderstanding, and even a satirical series on Netflix.
Insider visited Buckley Space Force Base in Aurora, Colorado, to learn more about the Space Force and to document the guardians in Delta 4, who are taught to detect incoming missiles from adversaries.

They should've called it "cyber" or "electronic". Both Russian and China re-organized theirs around 2010s, which included their satellite operations, so our move was appropriate. Just the name "space force" is ridiculous.

In reality, all of the Space Force's capabilities already existed through other branches, primarily the Air Force. The new branch was a logistical streamlining, taking all the various parts of US space defense and putting it under one umbrella. Not necessarily needed, but it makes funding and administration much easier. One of the few positive things done for the military during the last administration.

The thing is, the last administration only signed it into existence. ALL of the organization and heavy lifting was done during the Bush and Obama administrations. President Obama had the option to sign the branch in, but opted to pass, believing the time wasn't right. As far as how useful the Space Force is, one need only look at the war in Ukraine. They are effectively an active participant providing real-time Intel and probably assisting on the cyber front.

Interestingly, Australia also began it's 4th Branch of the military at the same time, called Space Command.

China's also got a Space Force IIRC, and we can only imagine what they might be working on right now (anti-satellite weapons, EMP nuke vehicles, etc.). Australia especially would be foolish to not take this stuff seriously, since they're so much closer to Chinese territory. Heck, Russia did a reckless anti-satellite weapons test of their own before the war in Ukraine, and didn't tell NASA or apparently their own organization Roscomos beforehand (debris was just scattered everywhere in that orbit area). We're living in an age where everyone better start looking upwards more.

Folks thought the early Air Forces in WWI were a joke until the pilots started carrying shotguns and grenades, then it happened again in the navies in early WWII when battleships were afraid to hit the open seas without the protection of an aircraft carrier and were relegated to essentially shore bombardment. Once one satellite drops that first tungsten telephone pole on a target, or that first Dragon capsule full of Space Force techs steals an opponent's satellite. it's game on. The ammount of time the crew of 35 Airmen consistently incorrectly identified missiles was astonishing. They would consitently label SRBM's as MRBM's all the time. It was quite pathetic. The missile warning center would consistently ring us up cause the 4 JTAGS Sites would label a missile and SIBRS would label it completly different. It's is a pretty big deal when 2 JTAGS sites label a possible threat as an SRBM comming out of North Korea that is gonna impact in the ocean but SIBRS is saying they launched an ICBM with a projected impact on the west coast.

Jw, I may be wrong. so, let's say instead of 20 different people, it's just 5 handling an issue. Space Force was formed to identify and catch, or shall I say take the stress off the other branches. I feel like people don't understand the newest branch, but also don't understand the reason. it is better to have 2 hands on something them 30 hands on something. if you can't understand the reason why this branch was made then you have not looked at the USA history. As a current member of the space force looking at separating (trying to get something more stable for family life), this is VERY true. Space Force experience makes you extremely hirable to hundreds of companies that will pay well above 6 figures as long as you're semi-competent. I'm a year out, and I've already had a multitude of different companies messaging me on LinkedIn trying to hire me. If you have anyone who's debating it, push them into it ASAP, and make sure they go officer.
I will say though, the amount of people trying to get in is insane. I don't think the Space Force will have trouble with recruitment anytime in the next several decades. It's tiny, between 10,000 and 20,000 personnel, with limited jobs. They'll fill their lower ranks, but may struggle maintaining higher leadership positions.

You see I don’t mind paying taxes for stuff like this. But I’d like to see more uap videos unclassified, it’s clear we’re not alone in the universe. But people out here wanna know what else is out there possibly visiting us too. That’s awesome. Don’t keep that back from us, it’s fascinating
