For me the most heartbreaking horror movies i've ever watched were Tale Of Two Sisters, Jacob's Ladder (the original 90s version with Tim Robbins, not the godawful remake), & Carrie. The ending of Tale Of Two Sisters is so tragic that it still haunts me years after I first saw it, and i still can't watch Carrie without wanting to turn it off just before the now iconic prom prank. I've experienced what it's like to go through that kind of bullying myself when I was a teenager, so it always breaks my heart seeing poor Carrie finally experience some happiness in her life after all the abuse she's suffered, only to have that happiness cruelly snatched away from her by the other kids at the end.

There was a Jacob's Ladder remake?

    • @kirstyfairly4371
      @kirstyfairly4371 Před 7 měsíci +3

@@user-lb9xw4xf2q -Yep, there was. It was released a few years ago, & unfortunately from everything I've heard about it it's awful. For one thing the remake completely changed the whole point of the original movie (for example there's a whole new plot involving a brother instead of Jacob dealing with grief over his son's death). It was a case of the studio making up a script that only has the smallest of nods to the original movie, & then basically trying to capitalise on the popularity of the original movie by saying it's a "remake".

I feel that. I was a victim of bullying from age 13 with the harassment continuing until I moved away from that town at age 22. Watching bullying in movies and shows is hard as fuck for me but I cannot ever rewatch Carrie again. Not the original or the remake. It makes me want to cry and scream and run into the movie to take her hand and lead her to safety with people who won't hurt her.
Also I accidently pressed the dislike button when going to comment on this comment but I changed it and I felt the need to explain why because I feel bad😅

Utøya (not the Netflix film, the one-shot Norwegian film) isn’t technically a horror film, I’ve never felt like I was actively experiencing a terrorist attack like that movie. Total immersion, especially as the character does the things you would do, namely run and hide. The desperation is complete as it’s a very small island and people act so realistically traumatized in this movie. Truly shook my core with its ending. You barely see the shooter but that’s the genius of it: you hear the shots coming closer and closer and sometimes catch a terrifying glimpse of him. Watch this one guys!

For me it was the South Korean film "Bedevilled" from 2010, that movie channels human misery for like two hours, The characters are believable, the Violence is really gritty and washed of any stylistic flair, and it gives you no sense of escapism or catharsis, you're just there watching good people turn bad and bad people become worse, the only other movie that hit me that hard was "Seven Days of Retaliation"...I wouldn't recommend either of these films if you have a low threshold for upsetting films.

irreversible is overrated and when you are francophone, you realize even more the absurdity of dialogue.
For me, it’s impossible to take film seriously.

@@mangavore Irreversible is a piece of garbage and the original should be burned, every record of it ever existing erased from history. Not because of the contents of the movie itself, but the outrageous low quality of everything in it. Bad acting, awful direction, non-existent photography, pretentious Nolan-esque sequencing of the scenes.

Scream Queen 👑 Okay this took a long time 2 do, I've been best friends with Anna Faris and Angela (May) 4 a while but we Just got R May remake finished (and her and Anna are both in the movie 🎥 only May's not playing the lead role anymore. Also Evans my love interest. Only he's playing Jimmy Darling (Now 4 those in the know that means Kit Walker I just changed his name) Okay having said that, I'm not telling you everything..... Cept we stuck as close 2 the original source material as we could, gave it more Storyline, plus it's one of mine so we got away with Everything! And it's gory! It's got plenty of gore in it 4 our fans out there who love that sorta thing, if you can't find a good horror film, make one....
    Its gonna be perfect 🎉

It is Lucky MaKee not Lucy MaKee. If you think May is sad you should watch Roman. It is by the same director.

I consider myself a horror fanatic who's already pretty desensitized to the genre. I don't really scare easily.
That said, I have never been able to finish Martyrs. I tried to watch it once and stopped. That movie is just a brutal assault on the senses.
As for horror movies I can only watch once, most recently, it would be Soft and Quiet. Is it a good movie? Yes. Great, even. Do I want to experience it again? No.

I'm surprised no one has mentionedd Hereditary! Yes, I've seen in twice, but I needed to drag someone else into that misery (and truly great acting and storytelling!) with me.
An incredibly well done film but so, so bleak.

If you think the film of THE GIRL NEXT DOOR is strong stuff, wait'll you try the book. Jack Ketchum was an evil genius-both terms applying equally.
