    The glaze layers on the fluted pot are amazing. You are a great fit for Freddie Moretti, I'm encouraging him to come up and work with you. I'd like it too but time wise and financially, sorry, I don't think I can. I circled round lower part of Nova Scotia as a teenager, this adding to my enjoyment of your videos. Thank you from Pittsburgh.

      Thanks. The world is so different now, I wonder if travel will be possible this year or next. The variants are faster than vaccines. I have thought about workshops but I sold off half of my equipment to my students when this all started. I still have 7 wheels including Simon's kick wheel.

    Love colors.. wished you used real burgundy red not your tomato brown because brighter color would pop your other colors used. I love your uniqueness and blue cookie jar with lids. Very nice work craftsmanship. 😊

    The red on the inside of the cookie jar is caused because the inside becomes slightly reduction atmosphere from gasses of gassing from the clay body and also the glaze driving oxygen out.

      @Vsmithpots  Před 3 lety

      I wondered about that and was waiting until May when I fire my gas kiln again. The trouble is Iron Oxide is a flux in reduction so I will have to reduce the iron or other fluxes. Stay tuned.

    Firing at cone 5 with a 15 min hold on the end instead of cone 6 solved the blot on our chocolate clay,

      That is what I did, down from 2232F to 2205F, all perfect now. My next video on urns shows the results.

    Hi Vaughn. Love your videos a lot. Any chance you can give recipe and firing schedule of that Matt turquoise? An internet search came up with a lot of stuff. Or maybe you don’t want to 😀. Either way, I enjoy your videos and the way you share information.

    Hi Vaughn, I'm a potter on Digby Neck. I've been enjoying your videos for the last few months, they are very informative. I might be interested in buying your pugmill if you decide to sell it. Cheers!

    Hi Vaughan Smithe, I was watching your video with the cookie jars and you were tapping the lids when they were stuck with a pliers to loosen the lid.
    In tool and die when pieces get stuck, they place the bottom in warm water to expand the bottom and the top comes loose. I use it to loosen my pottery lids
    I have a question I don't glaze the areas that will touch the edge of the lid to the bottom. I was wondering if you glaze those parts then put wax resist on there if they would stick together. Have you ever tried that?
    Thanks Claudia Wolter

      It is so easy to knock them off and the hot water method is tedious. You can also use a thin wash of silica sand 400mesh if you are nervous. Wax the piece and before it dries dip the rim in the silica. It brushes off after firing and the lid releases easier. The second method you mention will not work.

    Where do you get stilts that don’t melt at cone 6? We have ones for cone 04 but I think then would fail at cone 6.

      Hi Lisa. I have a video of my showroom on my website, a virtual tour, which I will update next week. You should see some prices in Canadian dollars on the pieces.
