Why Germany were AWFUL at World Cup 2022

  • Germany have been ELIMINATED from World Cup 2022. Despite the valiant 4-2 win against Costa Rica in the final round of group games, that wholly avoidable opening-day defeat to Japan was ultimately the result that cost Germany qualification.
The 1-1 draw with Spain following their shock 2-1 opening defeat to Japan had given Hansi Flick's men some hope of advancing but even victory against Costa Rica was not enough to prevent yet another tournament debacle, with the Germans condemned to their second straight World Cup first round exit.
Germany had been one of the most dominant forces in football for a period spanning 70 years, having won four World Cup titles since 1954. But those successes are now a distant memory, with the current German national team a shadow of their former powerful self. Hansi Flick’s men were overwhelmed and below par at this year’s tournament.
But what went wrong for Germany and why were they eliminated from the World Cup so easily? Let’s find out.
    Germany 1-2 Japan
    Spain 1-1 Germany

Flick made some unforgivable mistakes. Everyone was practically screaming at him to utilise Fulkrug, not Muller but he ignored it. He made a few other major blunders which cost Germany. You don't expect this from one of the best coaches in the world. He is stubborn, conservative, not adaptive - that's one of the main reasons they failed. He's only been the manager for 1 year so one hopes we will see drastic improvement by Euro 2024. If not, he will have to go. We cannot have someone who repeatedly makes these sorts of mistakes. Simply not acceptable.

Agreed mate, I’d argue over 50% of the blame goes to Flick, but seeing as he’s only been around for a year, he should be given one more chance.
Germany’s defence really needs to step it up and produce more talents. You wonder why Bayern now don’t have a single German defender for the first time in their history. 😰

@@FrontPageFootball Apparently it has something to do with their youth academies but I need to look into it in more depth. And yes, the defence is atrocious. After winning the 2014 WC, who could have anticipated that we would fall this low? And from Germany of all teams. The Germans have a reputation for being excellent planners, organisers, well disciplined and efficient... so how has it come to this? Something has gone seriously wrong.

The performance was better that 2018 but it still needs a lot of improvement i believe in germany we will sure perform good in the euros
In this worldcup for the first time i missed timo werner and i felt that muller needs to be benched
Germany need some strong defenders as we used to have and i think neuer is getting old
Neuer performed as an average goal keeper, probably it was due to bad defence
Sule and schlotterbeck were performing as they didn’t get enough sleep for weeks
Musiala is extremely talented his talent can’t be explained in words
But germany will rise again and we will witness the consistent Germany again
I believe we will win a worldcup before brazil does

Germanys problem is that if they dont have a striker that can fulfill timos place when he is injured, then i dont think they will achieve anything nor will take chances.
