One thing you can count on with Class 1 railroads........... after 40-years of faithful service, they'll enthusiastically toss their locomotives to the cutting torch boys.
Its's the lucky few who get sold to the short lines - the short lines being the ones who preserve vintage power.
Amazing how fast the fleets of end-cab switchers have disappeared from the Class 1's. Nothing but acetylene bait.
Lots of 4-axles on "death row" in this video. End of an era in American railroading.

and the Chinese like to scavenge WWII steel from the sea floor.
I wonder how many Montana Class Battleships you could build from the Galveston BNSF yard?
      5 ships?.... Seven?
I'm full of BAD IDEAS.... I'll be here until THursday... Tip Your Waitresses and Bartenders... Thank You.

Yes it is said to see them waiting for the torch but the EPA had set rules and don’t want a thing that might put out a puff of smoke. New engine cost more more to maintain and over all cost to run with they just pass on to the consumer we need to stand up to all these government regulations

That first line that you showed in the beginning all ended up going to LTEX in Lordstown Ohio so they are no longer there anymore.

Lot of Gen Sets tied down. CP didn’t like the 2 they had up here and sent them back.

Been by that yard on the way to Dock18 many times… Love the old Blue and Yellow Santa Fe locos… Would think they’d sell to a foreign railroad (the port’s right there) or just sell for scrap when metal prices are up (are you paying attention Warren?)

That's Galveston alright. Pass them everyday. Miles and miles of engines. Hundreds of them.

Why would you store locomotives in a damp salt air climate, i stead of Arizona, New Mexico, or Utah?

Likely the worst possible choice in the CONUS

Since most of them are GEs I am assuming the leases have run out and GE was just waiting for their next home.

Zazwyczaj odrazu ich oczekuje palnik, ale są też tutaj lokomotywy, które są już po naprawie pokolizyjnej.

I asked BNSF for a donor locomotive for a static display at the Olsen Rail Museum in Clifton, TX. On the BNSF line with active sidings.
A 501(c)3 organization so tax deductible. Take the prime mover. Take the traction motors.
Nothing ... crickets. After two years and maybe 50 phone calls and a half dozen letters, I gave up.

WHAT A WASTE OF RESOURCES & ENERGY 2 PRODUCE "NEW" LOCOS!! MILLIONS of $$$ JUST RUSTING AWAY----typical america, very sad!!
