Groove Coaster is such a unique experience. They manage to merge gameplay and visuals into one coherent unit while other rhythm games keep them as two separate layers. The charting is also top tier and very satisfying at the highest difficulty.
I've been playing the latest Deltarune pack this weekend, and it's so nice to see the chart follow the path I was taking in Deltarune itself, making it seem as if I was going through that game again!

29:47 - I was so shocked when I saw the amount of boxes at the top ( representing dlc mission trees ) this dude has. There’s 40 boxes! That’s 40 dlc packs!!! Keep in mind each dlc pack is $17 base price and $12 on sale! This Dudes rich!

Haha, if only! Me and my partner play so we’ve both chipped in gradually over the last four years or so. Although it is kind of concerning to think about the total amount…

Groove Coaster(The OG iOS version tho!) was quite an introduction for me to the realms of Rhythm Games. It was rather unfortunate as I had to spend much more time to get use to other franchises like maimai, WACCA, jubeat or so, and even more time to comprehend that GC is THE different one. Groove Coaster's game play, at its least, offers a very intuitive but coherent base, and at its best completely defies how you'd approach "Music". I'm glad that I am not the only one who wanted to give this game its undeserved justice. One thing you've completely missed(sadly) is that in Mobile and Arcade version of the game, the soundtrack might have 3 layers instead of the usual 2(as in other rhythm games). They will "overlay" their own rendition of the soundtrack - under different difficulties! - thus adding in more aural clarity or details that were otherwise missing, therefore making the in-game version sound - and play! - very differently. You can try looking up a few videos on CZcams and compare their "In-game" version to their OST version and see what I mean, especially for "Welcome to Japari Park", it was a PHENOMENAL mix.

thanks for making this vid! ive been playing arcade groove coaster for like 6 or 7 years now, i basically fell in love with it the very first time i played it. i had played plenty of rhythm games before that but what really sets it apart is how it invites you to engage with the music, from the charting, the visuals, the rumbling, the adlibs and everything. from my experience, adlibs are one of the most divisive aspects of the game among rhythm gamers it seems like, since you typically don't know where they are and have to look up a video to learn them usually (wai wai party lets you turn visible on easily for them, but this option did not exist for a long time in the arcade version). but i still remember the first time i played mmorpg addicts anthem--i didnt actually know where the adlibs were, but i knew the song well enough that i naturally tapped in adlib areas and hit them, and just thought, oh my god, that's amazing. they give a real sense of discovery to songs.
recent charting in the game has shifted a lot more toward standard "rhythm game difficulty" level of things, although you still get bangers like knight rider. but if you go back and look at some older charts (songs like not get wish or star coaster), the notes are much more sparse and there's a greater emphasis in the charting on bringing out the different aspects of the song to let the player enjoy it on a deeper level. this game really has reshaped how i enjoy music in general because of stuff like that.
one last thing, but really i think why groove coaster has stayed around as long as it has is because of the sheer amount of love put into it. at groove coaster events in japan, the producers, zuntata team members, and other composers will often come out to chill and support or even perform. a few months ago there was a very large event called Got Temporary Haven that's been going on for a number of years that me and some friends flew out for, and it was just amazing to see people like cosio, masaki, shohei tsuchiya, reisuke ishida, takuma hanagata, t+pazolite, cranky, massive new krew, etc., all show up to the event to hang out and have a good time with everyone. they really love the game as much as the players do, and you can feel it when you play the game.
sorry for the wall of text but i love this game :)

Hey! I've watched a fair amount of your videos over the last year (you probably noticed that you make a brief appearance in this one at 3:06), so it's cool to see you comment here.
I considered including a section on ad-libs, but the video was already ballooning with all the other nonsense I was cramming in. Seeing you talk so enthusiastically about them makes me regret cutting it.
I definitely agree with the sense of discovery. Because I got into GC on Switch I've spent most of my time using Visible, but getting my hands on the arcade version this year made me realise I was missing all those little hits of dopamine whenever you figure out the location of an ad-lib. I'd be lying if I said I didn't still rely on Visible 99% of the time, but it was interesting getting a taste of the original experience. It feels a lot more engaging (but also stressful!). It's yet another facet of Groove Coaster that asks you to engage with the songs on a deeper level.
Also amazing to hear that the community has such a strong in-person presence in Japan. That's a remarkable line-up of guests. If an event coincides with my next visit I'll have to go out of my way to check it out.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment! There's something special about Groove Coaster that seems to encourage walls of text -- I just put mine into a 30 minute video lol

500 subs is definitely underrated for this quality of content. I've been addicted to Groove Coaster since my first visit to a Round One south of me 3 years back. It's absolutely the rhythm game I have the most time sunk into, besides osu!. Absolutely phenomenal work with this video.

amazing video but I do feel like you missed some things
the visual style for the first groove coaster games (which yes, had lady gaga) is a continuation of space invaders infinity gene, I'm pretty sure the audiovisual aspects of said game inspired the devs to make groove coaster
sans undertale is a playable navigator, with his voicelines included
I think kamui makes sense, the flickstream there is just a faster ourovoros flickstream
arcade is wild due to many things, the difficulty certain arcade-exclusive charts have (buchigire beserker [but what about steam ve- that port is horrendous]), the comically vast crossovers, and the single funniest reason for why a game died (they ran out of hard drive storage space)
the weirdo aspect ratio settings makes a lot more sense on handheld mode, since the player can just, flip the switch and that's how they get a vertical screen (many shmups on the switch play suprisingly well)
it's also one of the few rhythm games where knowledge of the song will make the player improve on the chart, the only reason why I can play lv.14 (WWP rating and AC rating are different, an AC 13 can be a WWP 15 [orovoros]) charts in AC is because there's a dodonpachi song as a lv.13, it's still the only AC lv.13 I can s-rank

As someone who came into this game from pretty much the complete opposite direction from you, I absolutely love this game and it's the game I've spent the most money on all together. As someone who got into this game via VTubers (and as someone who has actually beaten multiple of the vtubers in this game at the multiplayer mode), I find that this game does a magnificent job of making people like you aware of these amazing talents and the music they produce.
I do have to say, the newer charts' charting is a bit weird on songs like [Q] and Play Dice! where they make up some notes, and the game has been getting harder with later charts overall, examples being that the first Undertale pack's charts being pretty easy for being higher. numbers, while the hololive pack's charts with the same number rating are overall harder. It still hasn't stopped me from logging over 105 hours of pure gameplay and 190 hours overall.
Also, 24:16 Rise is far from the most weeby song in this game lmao

I think you broke down the charting aspects really well, and I realized WHY the game always felt so intuitive. thanks for the video!

Great video! I'm glad that you acknowledged the perfect way the HD rumble works in this game. I still play Groove Coaster from time to time but for the last year, I've been playing Touhou Spell Bubble almost every day. They use the same satisfying rumble to keep you on the beat of the rhythm game part of the game. The combination of sounds, rumble and the repetative counting of the characters, makes Spell Bubble even more addictive than groove coaster for me.

    Ohhh it's groove coaster
I've been playing this for a long time
And I'm still playing the iOS version of it (Because I dont have Nintendo Switch to play Wai Wai Party, Sad :( )
Maybe this game might be hard for players never played for Rhythm games before?
Sadly, Arcade version will shut down the server on April 1 this year...

for me... groove coaster is the polybius of arcade rhythm game
you need to dig for the development origin
the gameplay and control at the cabinet feels weird at first glance
    flashing visual
    weirdly adicting
    weird aesthetic
the cabinet is simple and didnt stand out but its begging you to play
everything is simple in that game
yeah this is polybius but not an urban legend about goverment launched arcade game, but its a fun addicting rhythm game
also its recommended for the fellow old champs that grow up with the 80's arcade
yeah its weird that i recommend the old champs to play rhythm game
but yeah... its kinda make sense because its like playing flashy shoot em up arcade game but with music
