While visiting San Francisco and Fisherman's Wharf, Jason sampled some of the best San Francisco Clam Chowder along Fish Alley. In this clam chowder video, Jason shows you how to make it easily at home.
You'll need the following ingredients to make this recipe for clam chowder soup: white onion, celery stalks, red potatoes, semi-frozen bacon, bay leaf, canned clams; chicken broth, water or clam juice; half/half; flour; butter; salt and pepper.

Im in high school and needed this for Nutrition class. We were learning about the New England region and we have to pick a popular New England recipe to cook for our assessment, and I chose clam chowder lol so thank you for this!
Best clam chowder we've ever had and it will definitely become a family tradition. I used pancetta in place of bacon, corn starch in place of flour, mixed red and golden potatoes, used one large can of dark clams and 2 small cans of white clam meat, and to sweeten things up, I added sauteed whole scallops just before serving. :-)
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing.
So you made something different. Surprised you didn't add chocolate chips. You should start your own channel.
So basically u didn't follow the recipe! U made your own thing! 🤔🙄

Chowder needs a few grains of sand as a reminder that clams are from the sea bed
Thanks for the approval and for sharing your version about less carbs.
Cheers!

Glad to help and thank you for the nice comment/critique!
This is exactly how it's done. Nice job man. Kudos.
oh wow, you make it look so easy, i'll be sure to try it out! clam chowder is one of my favorites, the store bought can may be easy but who knows what else they add in there.. starting to cook from fresh wholesome ingredients now and these little tips really help out! like dicing in the same size for even cooking and sauteing while scrubbing the bottom, waiting for onion to be translucent, stirring heavy cream a bit at a time etc, very good to know for a beginner cook like me! :D
I’ll def try this!
You have one of the best step by step recipes I have seen on CZcams.

I followed this video and my chowder came out great
Thank you so much imm gonna make this on my birthday today
Making this now for dinner tonight. Thank you very much. Used cornstarch it makes a BIG difference in flavor. Yummy
Hope you enjoy it!
Hey Jason, looks delicious. I noticed you used tabasco on your chowder in the beginning of the video, and I also like giving them a little bit of extra kick, so when I make a chowder at home, I tend to add a tiny bit of red curry paste. Changes the hue a little bit and gives it a nice spicy character.
Also, if you get your hands on some wrasse (ballan wrasse, species of fish) you can make an absolutely amazing stock on that. They're extremely bony, but packed with flavour.
This looks SO good!! I will make this when the weather cools off for good finally! You just got one more subscriber! :)
Thanks for subbing and hope you enjoy the recipe!
Just found this video super exited to try this out
Hope it turns out for you. Thank you for commenting!

The chowder was incredible, I make this same exact recipe every year.
That’s great to hear. Thanks for commenting!
Awesome recipe. I replaced the clams with canned horse meat. It was fantastic! Thanks.
You're welcome!
I’ve had done this recipe and is delicious!!
Wonderful! Thanks for commenting.
I Want to come over for dinner so badly right now!! 😊
Hey Chef... Thanks to your recipe, I've made this a few times and I absolutely love it! I like mine with a little more clam flavor so I use extra clam juice. How do you feel about seafood broth as opposed to chicken broth?
Your recipe looks fantastic! I used to work at a French/Italian restaurant and theirs was the best ever. Wish I’d have gotten their recipe, it sold out every Friday. I’m trying yours, for sure.
Thanks! Hope you like it!
Hi Chef!!! I am currently 15 years old and ever since the age of six I Have been eating clam chowder one day I told my dad how much I loved the clams and he said that's odd that's not like you so I showed him how I was brave and ate the clams but it turns out I only ate the potato squares and didn't like the clams. From that moment on I felt like a weirdo. And started eating cream of potato soup from then on so in the end I never really did like clams keep up the great videos!!!
Hi I am Chinese and I always love Italian food. Why didn't I discover your videos earlier? Well never too late. Have sub and I find your English very clear and instructions easy to comprehend. Thanks!
..it's not italian
@@ValerioGiganteGiga right!!! it’s early American from settlers ☠️
Chowder is american...not italian
Also, being chinese is rather irrelevant...
Awesome. Might start a new job in a English style fish and chips restaurant and they have clam chowder on the menu and I've never made it before. This video was very helpful in filling in the gaps 👍
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Wow , Just made this for lunch, was fabulous , definitely will be making again, family loved it. No more paying restaurant prices for me lol. Thank you for great recipe
Glad you enjoyed it! It's one of our favorites. I hope you will consider subscribing (& hit the notification bell) for more of our videos!
Nice presentation. The moment I saw you at the fisherman's Wharf, I thought, Oh man!. not again. SF is such a beautiful city and who would not want to be at the Fisherman's wharf?. Great place. And now my mouth is watering for chowder.
Ha ha! Thank you.
I remember going to Alioto's in the 80's, when the Aliotos actually owned the place. I had frequent'd the wharf for many years,
and remember when they actually put clams in their soup.
This is defiantly the best chowder recipe on youtube. Subbed
Thanks!!
I grew up with almost all of my family being from New England with states being Rhode Island, Massachusetts, And Maine with Massachusetts having the most New England family there
I made this recipe last night...Love it..👍❤️
Glad you tried it! Thank you for commenting.
Gonna make it after watching this video. Caught clams myself. 😁
I have always wanted to make a clam chowder but thought it would be a difficult soup to make. Man…. Was I wrong. So simple but damn….. this was delicious. My only mistake was I did not abuse all the rue so it was more like a soup than thick chowder. Will absolutely keep this recipe as my go to. THANK YOU from Utah
Bony good for stock no?
Thanks for sharing all of this!
I never thought to make a roux to thicken my chowder better. Mmm!
Glad to hear! Thanks for commenting.
I made this along with a homemade bread bowl , it is very delicious
Great! Thank you trying the recipe and commenting.
