I think we should start a campaign to get that man a knighthood! What a gentle man, what wonderful understated talent, thank you that’s made my day.
definitely, for keeping british home engineering alive.
They have no time for engineers in this country.
@@4418CARLOU So true
Agree
This man should already have an OBE and the freedom of the UK
"Did you make those?" .... "Yes".
"Did you make that?" ... "Yes".
I chuckle every time I watch an interview with A.M.
My dream TV show would have been Allen Millyard, Fred Dibnah, and Guy Martin on a sort of Scrapheap Challenge type show, working together, building "contraptions".
hahaha...what a wonderful idea, funnily enough i was chatting to a friend yesterday about guy martin being a new version of fred!
he blows my mind. made his own carbs for it. where do you begin . he is up there with the greats. 🙏
Reminds me of Burt Munroe, but with more machines. I worked for a Marine Engineer who apprenticed in WWII, he could literally build anything. I saw him routinely turn stub axles for cars by eye, taking one measurement before the last cut. Alan is focused on his passion, and builds incredible machines. First encountered his work withe 2.3 litre v12 kawasaki made from 2 z1300 six cylinders, kinda noticed more and more of his work since. He is a true artist/san, with a massive skillset. I'm glad he seems so down to earth. Munroe was like that too. What a guy!
Just imagine if children weren't stuck with 25 medications from the womb, people weren't trying to make ends meet with 2 or 3 jobs, and taxation was low, you'd have so many more geniuses with so much more time to contribute to innovation and engineering and longevity and quality of life.
when I served in the US Navy I worked on aircraft with engines like these mostly the DC-3 and I used to daydream what it would be like to build a bike engine using the cylinders from this aircraft engine ...Now I find someone who has done it ...fantastic..!
Alan is the David Attenborough of the motorcycle world. We need to protect him at all costs. Every time he talks, I stop and listen!
That’s a huge insult. Attenborough is a eugenicist.
@@G58 Very right on of you. I don't think the OP was making that connection, but you, of course, have to show how clever you are.
@@laurieharper1526 @Laurie Harper you responded:
“G58 Very right on of you.”
What does that mean?
“I don't think the OP was making that connection,”
Evidently not.
“but you, of course, have to show how clever you are.”
No, I thought it appropriate to point out that Attenborough believes that there are too many people on the planet, yet seem reluctant to demonstrate the true extent of his beliefs by setting an example.
Conversely, our friend Allen Millyard seems a far more level headed and decent man (as the very engaging conversation I had with him in 2019 confirmed), and there is no suggestion that he believes that there are too many people on the planet.
I on the other hand have, over the last three years, come to the conclusion that the eugenicists may indeed have a point. Anyone dumb enough to do some of ludicrous, utterly pointless and downright dangerous things appropriately 90% of the population did during the largest psychological operation in human history, probably is no use whatsoever to the future of humanity.
And anyone smart enough to have figured that much out, is obviously going to be someone who know just how little he really knows.
Now, have you ever wondered why the comments section on this channel had mostly only single comments and virtually NO conversations? That’s a rhetorical question of course.
Now you have a better idea of the rules, do you still want to play?
Thought not.
@@G58 Still like him. And Allan and this channel.

The man is undoubtedly a mechanical and electrical design and building genius. He should have been knighted years ago! The unique thing about him that sets him apart from others in the field is that he actually gets things done successfully and quickly, and he has a humble and gentle demeanor!
Alan is the Leonardo da Vinci of motorcycle engineers.
Not just motorcycles the mountain bike he built his son is another level.
Da Vinci just drew stuff .... I bet A.M. would have actually built them in his shed.
Alan Millyard - a true traditional English shed genius - a knighthood is warranted - what an inspiration to any budding young engineer.
You are one lucky man. 75% of my reason to watch The Motorbike Show is to see what Millyard is up to.
How Much Horsepower - Yes
How Much Torque - Yes
What a great builder !
No other man in this world has built such wonderful things , Allen Millyard is the Greatest Motorbike builder in the world...
This has been a 'smile per mile' video for me. What an honour to ride the Flying Millyard. Alan is such an unassuming man and yet his bikes are famous all over the world.
Alan is an incredibly ingenious engineer, designer, and fabricator. Everything I've ever seen that's he's created is perfected down to the most minute detail.
The world is a better place for having Allen Millyard in it!
Agreed!
the world needs more fellas like Allen ,just a wonderful gentle soul
A poet, building machines. Nothing less.
The Millyard. The man is just amazing . I agree that he should get a knighthood.
Great to see that Alan uses the bike rather than some custom builds which are basically nothing more than exhibition pieces. I built my own custom this year and have covered almost 1k miles already 😊
Well said!
A proper engineer in the true sense of the word. What a brilliant mind.
Allen Millyard is a living legend. Also his misses make great cakes.😊
Got to love anything with Allen in, such a natural talent without a hint of ego. His absolute passion for what he does comes across, one of a kind in the best possible way! Thanks for sharing your experience Andy, another great episode of TMF
thank you!
Wow, what a privilege to know Allen Millyard. The man is a genius.
Andy, your videos are always great to watch and this one is no exception.
Keep them coming.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was just AMAZING. Thank you so much. What an absolute work of art that thing is. I envy you brits for having Allen as a fellow countryman.
Utterly mad and gorgeous in equal measure.
I would say that Allen's ability to turn a blueprint in his head into an actual three-dimensional, often beautiful and fully functioning piece of engineering is truly unique. That his passion happens to be for motorcycles is all the better. This country used to value (and was effectively built on) true engineering innovation - now it values internet influencers instead.
Shame isn’t it…..but times move on!
Brilliant video, thank you Andy - not just you with a big grin on your face after watching that. Allen really is one of this world's unsung heroes!
What a magnificent sound it makes. Millyard the miracle !
Absolutely the most beautiful creation
Absolutely brilliant, such a great bloke. Years ago I filmed him starting this (any his other bikes) at the National Motorcycle Museum. Still my most viewed vid ever.
I've been an admirer of his work for a very long time.
What a great collaboration, well done to you both.
Cheers Richard….
His genius is unparalleled.
So many engines he has completely re engineered into his vision of what could be...
Allen Millyard the man with the magic hacksaw.😃
Lucky guy, Allen is a total legend.
The word genius is much overused these days, but when it comes to engineering Mr Millyard is without doubt a genius and such a quiet unassuming man.
Wow, seventeen minutes of proper engineering awesomeness!
Brilliant Andy! We are so lucky to be alive during Allen's time and thanks to CZcams we all get to enjoy his brilliance and creativity.
I was thinking riding on the pillion was the best and less frightening for all concerned. 👍👍
One word describes that video FANTASTIC.
Brilliant engineering by a more than brilliant engineer… what a mind with fantastic application
That V twin makes a Harley sound like a screaming UJM!
Magic Millyard. One kick and it lives.
What a steam-punk beautifully made machine! He’s right there with the Wright Bros., the Davidsons and Edison. Simply wonderful! We want more!!
I think we were all grinning along with you! What an awesome machine and a wonderful engineer Alan is! Thanks for brightening my day 😀
Our pleasure!
I was grinning ear to ear sitting in my chair , what a experience you had and what a bike .
Yes it was a fun day…
Me too... 😊
An engineering marvel, people like Allen make life so much more interesting and pleasurable.
I think that was about 7 or 8 thumps per lamp post.
Agreed.....
Part of the engine of the famous F4U Vought Corsair, a.k.a. the Whistling Death from WW2. In a low rpm High Torque motorcycle that is both ingenious and beautiful as a piece of art can be. Handmade by mister Alen Milyard himself. Definitely a priceless masterpiece.
What a great day out ... for both of you. Back in the early 1980s, your road route was part of my daily commute to High Wycombe. It has hardly changed. You drive past the spots where my Mk1 Ford Escort broke down and later where my Triumph 2.5 PI broke down. In my childhood, the roundabout where you turn round for the return leg used to be a T-junction known, in my family, as "dog sick corner" after a rather unpleasant event involving a car-sick poodle in a Mini Traveller. Thanks for the memories.
I’d love to see the MOT testers face when Alan arrives with that wonderful machine!
Thanks Andy that was so good to see, shame we didn't see you & Allen flying the plane ! ATB Wayne................
Maybe next time!
That was great fun, thoroughly enjoyed it. The fact that he makes these things in a tiny single garage is just fantastic.
What a way to raise the spirits! Thank you for sharing this epic day with us. I was fortunate to see the Flying Millyard at Cassington bike show some years back. Allen arrived, parked up and was swamped by people. He had the most lovely grin while chatting to the crowds!
Similar thing happenned at the airfoeld when he visited!
I was just looking at You Tubes home page and your thumbnail popped up so I hovered my mouse over it. When I do that, the subtitles of what you're 'apparently saying' pop up. Today it said "Hello folks it's 'Mr Floor' here. Mr Floor, lmao............
out of all the bikes his built this has to be his most impressive, stunning engineering considering the basic (in todays terms) tools he uses
Allen is a mechanical genius, such great creations.... there's a young Chinese guy who's been doing similar things now as Allen, I'd swear and assume he took inspiration from Allen, but people should check him out as well...not the fit and finish of Allen's final bikes, but his engines he creates are just as crazy, even more so occasionally.... he's built a V4 out of random scrap engines, some random L2 4t into a 2t, he's built a bunch of 3cyl creations, literally everything from 2t to 4t.. and he literally just sources everything from a back alley "junk yard"(if you can call finding seized engines in an alley being sold by an old Chinese guy a "scrap yard" 😅)
Wow that's a once in a lifetime experience. Well done Allen and Andy.
Absolutely blown away and humbled by the obvious very rare skillset that Mr Millyard is equipped with.
Interesting video. My Dad was an USAF pilot during the Korean War and my Uncle a U.S. Army Air Corps B-17 pilot. Oddly I never got my pilots license but was always intrigued by aircraft. The F-4U Corsair always gives me a thrill at seeing. Combining that engine on a motorcycle will turn your head. 😃 Congratulations on the 2-up record.
I love watching anything involving Allen. Some of the engineering he does in the real old school way is amazing.
Things like "I just filed those crankcases flat with my hand file until they were just right" and it all works beautifully.
Those of us who have done a bit of engineering understand just how much talent that takes.
The man is very gifted and obviously well trained too.
The Flying Millyard is amazing because its just so off the wall. Everything on it is crafted to perfection. Until you see it up close you don't really understand just how intricate some of the pieces are and how well they have been made.
Top video.
All I would change is maybe getting something to cover the numberplate next time so the blur doesn't go over other parts of the bike.
Yes sorry about that - I'm a bit rubbish at complicated editing!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Not a problem mate. I'm impressed you managed to get a go on the back of the FM.
Well impressed and a bit jealous. :)
Wow. What an experience. Cool fact - I have the exact same Klim jacket as Allen in the same color.
Alan should be Knighted for everything he has done.
One word, brilliant, total awe for someone who can plan and execute such wonderful idea.
Me too....
Allen Milliard is a legend!!
Only one word.......Brilliant!
Cheers Colin
Fabulous, and to think he built it with nothing more than a sharp knife and fork and a set of ring spanners: amazing!
Pretty much the case!!
What a genius that man is. Great unique watch Mr Flyer.
Absolutely beautiful machine and really appreciate the engineering and craftsmanship. Hats off to you sir.
The chitty chitty bang bang of 2 wheels. Awesome!
I once shook his hand at Kopp Hill, i have not washed it since! Hoping his magic was now on me!
I'm sure it is - just don't take a hacksaw to your bike's motor just yet....
Great collaboration Andy and thanks milly.
Any time!
Wow....no words fantastic
What a humble gentleman and thankyou both for that wanderfull flight !!! 😉😎
Brilliant, I now can’t get the tune out of my head….’Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying….. 😊
A fantastic engineer that seldom gets the recognition that he deserves . Slow down when you interview people and allow him to talk more
My apologies - I'm not very good at interviews I know - I get over excited due the people I'm talking too....
Verily, a truly wondrous machine. Excellent.
There are good engineers and then there's Alan.
Allen is.such a humble.genius and a guy who desrves everything positive that come his way
10a downing st for examle
What an absolutely brilliant/ beautiful bit of engineering,my hat goes off to you Allen, and a huge thank you to Andy for doing this interview and ride.
Our pleasure!
What an awesome machine! What an absolutely genius engineer too!
Genius is definitely the correct word.
@@motodevcam 100%! He builds the machines the rest of us just fantasize about. I've spent plenty of time RUNNING a machine shop and I couldn't come up with the crazy machines, or adaptations of them that he does.
Fantastic engineering, I’m at a loss for words!
Seen the bike before but never knew it’s aviation background, fantastic!
One of my favorite biles ever
Such a beautiful machine. A work of visual art, with a superb sound track to accompany its progress down the road.
A gentleman, and a gentle man. I reckon that applies to the two of you. Great video, thanks for sharing such a fascinating day...!
Thank you kindly!
Thank goodness for people like Alan, makes the world so much more fun. I wouldnt mind having that jacket he,s wearing, Klim🤐
now THAT is a proper custom bike!
2 or the worlds finest in one video. Superb.
Wow, thanks!
Millyard the Wizard.👌
He sure is....
Wonderful! Allen is a legend.
Awesome.........Loved that. Thanks to the famous Allen Millyard. I think you had the best of this arrangement.....
Glad you enjoyed it!
Remarkable engineering.Fascinating,thanks.
That Man Allen Millyard is a genius Thank you both loved the video i hope you both got home safely.
Thank you David - glad you enjoyed it!
What can I say that's not been said before. Excellent !
Simply amazing!
I can only imagine the hoops he had to jump through to get it licensed. Well worth it.
He is simply amazing!
It's not Allen's first so I supose the MOT 'r saw him coming started smilling and still does....
Big singles are often described as "one bang per lamppost"; this is more like one bang per bus stop!
Exactly right!
I was about to say something similar 👍👏
That's a work of art and engineering, it sounds a bit like a WW2 aircraft radial engine. What a beauty. Thank you.
It is a WW2 radial engine! (Well a bit of one!!)
The crank weighs the same as a KX80 lol
What a man, thanks for sharing your time with him mate.
No problem 👍
Wonderful!
Many thanks!
Alans a national treasure.
This guy is a badass!!!
Discovered him through the Downhill Mountain bike he made for his son and had no idea he'd made a motorcycle as well!
Awesome!!!
Not just one motorcycle either!
That was fantastic to get the perspective from the pillion passenger on the Flying Millyard the very low revs and just putteres along and this bike was built by Allen a definite tribute to his engineering genius
Can't have too much Allen. What a bloke.
what an incredible bloke Allen is
Agreed…
What a gentleman he is. Legend... cracking vid that. Thank you👍
