Spent my first 5 hours doing everything in Serene and then finally saw the Title screen. Could have progressed a lot sooner but the city just engrossed me. Any game that can pull me in and make me want to forego progression for the sake of exploration is a winner in my book
This game kind of reminds me of Assassins Creed...hmmmm
This is the game that distracted me so much that I’m going to have to restart about 4 other games because I can’t remember what I was doing. It’s got its jank, but makes up for it with just how wonderfully engrossing it is.
I've only played 2 hours and really am gripped already. I played bound by flames and hated I but it seems they've come on leaps and bounds. Have to say the terrible lip syncing of the dialogue and the characters mouth movements is slightly off putting but it's not a high budget game and not that important. The story and emersion is! Imagine if spiders were given a good budget for a game...
FACTS!!
@@THE-NC2 What? How so?
In short, this game is great for Spiders fans and great for fans of games like Gothic or Risen, but if you're willing to cast a blind eye at some budget ways of making games - it's an amazingly atmospheric game. :-)
Well said
And the bland characters. Good game but nothing on vampyre
Facts
nah at least Risen 1 and Gothic has decent word feeling to it, this feels like the Amalur type, generic and kinda bland
After 2 days I'm 12 hours in lol
Greedfall AA developer , no microtransactions small team all heart...=win.
AA developer selling their game at AAA prices.
@@headsgrowback1 And you clearly don't understand how selling work :)
@@croumir oh I understand. You can sell anything at high dollar if absent minded fanboys pay for it and defend it.... Oakley, Apple, EA, beats, the list goes on. Praising a game for having no MCs just shows how bad the gaming industry is. I actually like Spiders as a developer. It's not their fault the game is sold at high price. It's Focus Home Interactive. All games they sell are not worth what they sell it for.
@@headsgrowback1 Back in these days of Playstation 1, when games cost 100 euros. In my city, next to the official game store was a store with a burned copies for 10% of their price. 100 euros was too much for people and it was more than 20% of average salary (what most of the people didn't had). In last 12 or more years games cost mostly 60 euros here in Europe. Cinemas are 3 times more expensive than before. Travelling is more expensive. Living is a lot more expensive at all. Average salaries got higher and games? Still is a normal price of big games 60 euros. Greedfall cost 50 euros and is only on Steam, where 30% of it goes to Steam. In these times when developers have a hard times making games because it's not that worth as doing something else and they have hard earned money, a lot of developers are bankrupting, you be angry that this game cost 50 euros? You should be spitting on EA, Bethesda and publishers/developers like them, not normal ones who are trying to do something for a game industry.
@@headsgrowback1 This isn't selling at AAA prices. Steam currently has it at £44. You generally can't get a full AAA of this type for less than £60 on release (not counting dodgy sites). Even at £60 it's the base version with limited content.
Also, there's no such thing as AAA prices, only AAA games etc.

When you list a bunch of technical glitches with a 'AA game' and it still sounds more stable than a Bethesda release...
.... ouch
a house of cards in a blizzard is more stable than a Bethesda release
Ryan Rodgers yeah true true, I mean most of their glitches aren’t game breaking, some are just funny visual glitches, but definitely does have game breaking glitches
I think I'd actually be disappointed if Bethesda released a game without their trademark hilarious bugs.
LOL, well said.
Props for the "We need middleground AA game devs" comment!
I fully agree thanks for pointing that out bro!
I can see this game being someone's first. You know, that one special game that not everyone liked. But it was your game and nobody can take that away from you.
Edit 2021: I have finally played this underated gem thanks to PS+! And man am I glad I did. Major kudos to Spider, a fantastic game from a team of 20 people. If I were to give this game a critique score I would give it a 7/10, but my personal enjoyment was a 9.5/10.
The publisher can :D
It's certainly not my first but if it finishes strong it will definitely have earned a top 10 spot from me my "first" as you put it would have been the original drakengard game

with a touch of fable
Finished it last night. As a young dad with little time to spare, I am very happy about the length of the game. It is just right and I could even pick it up once more for a second playthrough. Enemy variety feels like a chore sometimes, but really good mechanics overall. What a good game!!!
Could you elaborate on the "enemy variety feels like a chore" please?
@@RepublicofODLUM They feel samey. The boss enemies are fine. But when you roam around you dread the lower enemy types after a while. They are just not that interesting once you beat them over and over again.
@@flowryan87 ahhh ok, thanks for the reply. I've heard many varying opinions on this game but after watching a bunch of reviews, im lookin forward to it. A lot of people said the same thing about the regular enemies being either too easy or just not very interesting to fight but the rpg systems, writing, and overall world sounds interesting to me.
@@flowryan87 You could say that for every RPG!

I would love to see you play greedfall! You seem to love story based and battle games like God of War. Also would love to see you play baldurs gate 3!
Action adventure RPG with a story that lets me create my own character with NO MICROTRANSACTION? SOLD!
The character customization is pretty limited. You get to choose between a couple of faces, choose skin/hair/eye color, and pick a hairstyle (there's 5 I think) and eyebrows. If that isn't a huge issue for you though I'd say it's worth it still.
@@krose200 thats not a big issue.
@@krose200 That sounds fine to me. I grew up with Morrowind and Knights of the Old Republic which had even less customization than that. I never really use sliders anyway as it's too intimidating for me, lol. Just pick a preset, tweak a few small things and I'm good to go.
@@ryanhadi7084 to me it is cause the comment says make my own character 3 face changes really isnt making your own character to be fair
@@ryanhadi7084 The bigger issue is that everything is the same. After the first 2 hours, the rest of the game is the exact same.
The PS4 version is pretty stable, from what I've experienced. I'm LOVING it. It's a mix of old Bioware, inspired by Witcher 3, on a small budget... another thing: this was made in 3 years by 50 people!!!! Take note Bioware... seems like your "magic" resides at Spiders now.
I think it was a bit less than 50 actually
@@MrProdigy810 I read it was like under 30
Haha I love it. Just thought I'd point out that CDpojekt Red used Bioware's engine in the first Witcher and was even given a spot at the BioWare booth for it's E3 debut. Back when Bioware was an amazing small company with passion and talent.
Brandon Nolin I know, right? Good ol’ days
ikr?i love that theres barely issues on ps4 mean while biowares anthem is bricking ps4s
It's really a great game for a team of 35 people. Feels like a Combination of Witcher, Dragon age, fable; suburbs look like skyrim, town is like assassin's creed series specially black flag.

Here I am, watching "before you buy" after finishing the game three times. Though it might not be a perfect game, it's one of the best games I've ever played, and I heartily recommend it to everyone.
I strongly invite you to crawl from under a giant boulder you've been living. I give it 3/10.
I'll just pretend it's a 2010 game and play it anyway
It's too good for that
This game is perfect for people who keep on saying "Why can't I find happiness playing games anymore?"
The game sounds like a perfect contrast to ubi open world games which always get high scores because they're well produced...but lacking in charm and fun. I'll be getting it.
I did that with the Sinking city and loved it
2010 is the Golden age of gaming anyway where people still trying new stuffs. Now most companies just vomits the same remake movies and repurposed games
Reminds me of The Witcher and Dragon Age series combined for some reason.
That's exactly what it feels like when playing it.
The original Witcher (not so much the sequels) is a pretty good comparison in terms of budget, bugs, combat that isn't actively terrible but fails to really do anything interesting, etc. Awesome for an RPG fan who's willing to overlook the lack of polish for the sake of some great worldbuilding. Probably just frustrating for someone who only bothers with AAA stuff.
@@that1geekychick Yup, the first witcher for the exploration and combat. And the items looks like inspired by Dragon Age 2. All in all, i think this is a good game for me. Definitely good for my wallet :D

It was a little dated by the time I got my hands on it, but all of that fell away from my notice as I started getting pulled into the characters and the story. Greedfall has an excellent sense of that "old but transcends time" kind of feeling that excellent RPGs have. Spiders has been getting better and better with each title they produce.

Don't come into this game expecting something on the level of Witcher 3...it has flaws. It's a small studio of 40 to 50ish people and don't have that flashy triple A stamp to back it. I’m only 10 hours in but really just began exploring the ‘open’ world (the first open world like region that is) and I really like the game so far. I wouldn’t say I love it like games as the Witcher 3, but I enjoy myself playing the game and can’t wait to dive back in. It’s one of those unique games where you can feel the love for gaming from the developers in the game world and that’s always a big plus nowadays. So yeah, I think it’s actually a good game. Not great, but good and a good game is still ‘a good game’. I only hope the game will get more attention the upcoming weeks, Spiders absolutely deserves that with this title
Beginners tip: If you informed yourself about the game, you have probably heared how handy the lockpicking talent is at the start. And it absolutely is, but don’t spend your beginning talent point on it! Your first party member got chest armor with level 1 lockpicking skill, just swap the armor with your own character

@@softenbysam How is it simple?
Your companions reactions to your choices are done brilliantly.
The communication between the two companions you choose to take in a mission is actually very good.
Like for example, if you take Siora to do Aphra's companion mission, she will not like the fact that you are following the Elders and entering their sacred place and you will lose Reputation with the Natives. But instead if you choose someone else in her place, you won't lose any reputation.
These little details are done brilliantly. Combat sucks I have to say. But the RPG elements are good if not brilliant.

Just got this free off Ps+ so I'm watching just in case
Im really enjoying it so far, if this game had a higher budget it could have been something truly great. The setting is nice cause its a break from the standard medieval fantasy, and i do like medieval fantasy a lot but this is really unique and cool too.
Can I ask you a quick question. When you get your objective do they show you where you're to go on the map?
@@realspider4939
It gives you the location of your next objective, but doesn't show you a direct path, you can look at the map and see what the best path would be, but it's fairly simple, I haven't had many issues with finding my objectives.
@@transatlanticdevil7771
How's it? I'm kina wondering cuz I hate these big open world games. Is it any good?
Its an amazing game if you acknowledge their limited budget. If this had bio-ware budget, it would be awesome.
I just found this game a few days ago and, while I generally agree with this video, there’s one thing that I feel wasn’t given enough emphasis: the controls. They’re *extremely* clunky. While you can remap buttons to some extent, there are some that can’t be remapped and it makes combat even more of a chore. Plus, you have to click through endless levels to do anything. Wanna find something in your inventory? You’re clicking through 3 or 4 different sections, depending on the item you’re trying to find. It’s extremely frustrating, especially in the beginning of the game, where you’re getting introduced to a lot of different mechanics and concepts in a very short timeframe.
Overall, though, I’m enjoying the game. My advice to new players is to remap the combat controls, especially, and to persevere through the beginning of the game, particularly the first boss fight. I found that fight intensely frustrating not because of the difficulty, but because of the controls. The camera kept swinging out of control, I’d dodge into corners, trapping myself-and not on purpose-I kept hitting the pause key because it was too close to the dodge key; it was a mess until I finally came up with a system of controls that I could easily reach with all my fingers.
I emphasize this so much because in the beginning, before you’re invested in the story, a lot of people would throw in the towel if it gets too frustrating, and that would be a shame for a game with a strong story, excellent world-building, and a refreshing lack of microtransactions and other AAA monetization crap.
I too just picked up the game. Well last week picked it up anyeay. It's a good game. Really enjoyed and have even taken to some slight modding to make a kind of sort of new game plus mode.
I rebound a few keys as well. I will never understand why devs bind crouch to c and instead of ctrl.
I played skyrim for over 300 hours and never found the interest to actually finish the game. So I think I can survive a buggy game.
I've put over 500 in, and have never finished it
Seriously? You found the interest to play 300 hours but not to finish the main story?
@@Rubenz343 i keep getting to the more annoying story missions and starting over because I don't like my characters made up back story anymore. So I play a bunch of side quests then make a new character.
@@Rubenz343 haven't finished the main quest and have put numerous hours. Don't know how many but the side quests can fill the whole game. It's amazing.
How everyone gets that many hours I don't know. I reached high 60's and completed all main story, all dlc as had game of yeat edition and all side quests and did one or twice or radiant quests before all that was left was the reoccuring ones and beat all quest lines and maybe got a little over 100, much less than Witcher 3 so I don't know where you guys are getting 300 hours on this
I agree with the camera issue and fights being not great. I did also find myself enjoying this game. Is it perfect? No. Is it enjoyable? Yeah. I think so. The only other complaint is that some missions are a bit frustrating because you get to an area of the map that won't let you by pass due to skills or barriers. Or I literally have no clue what the next step is so I am running around trying to figure out what to do. Then I Google it and come to find out it's a glitch or other gamers said they struggled in knowing what to do. I don't want someone to hold my hand but if many gamers are struggling to know the next step then there might be an issue.
This game was great. Looks great, plays great, great story, etc
I pre ordered it last week and just started playing it and next thing i know over 10 hours passed and i'm still in the early stages of the story, if you like playing rpg's like KOTOR and the mass effect series then this might be for you
antoine weldon I fricken love kotor. I loved dragon age 2 as well and it reminds me of it. Is it worth 50 quid though?...
shahzaib Khalid it’s offline
Thinking Machine yes
T. S. watched a couple more reviews and I got it. Been playing for hours non stop! It’s great! Only ran into very minor bugs but it’s smooth
@@thinkingmachine354 dude I have no idea what a quid is, but if it's a fancy way of saying money then I personally would say yes but if you want to wait for a price drop then go right on ahead bro cause I'm not gonna tell you what to do with your cash
I've been playing this game non stop and really enjoying it, it gives me that old dragon age/mass effect feel but thatz just me lol
Kingdom Come: Deliverance wasn't a AAA game, was flawed, was clunky...still one of the best RPG's ever made IMO.
Yes! Nobody talks about that game anymore. I love that game. It was incredibly ambitious and fairly realistic for what it was.
I could never get over on how to use the sword 😭
The combat and lock picking was so crazy, that it stopped me from playing. I figured i would wait for the patches to fix and then later redownload it. Maybe i should give kingdon come another try.
@@Cdantz215 you definitely should! it has come a long way ;)
I liked KCD and enjoyed it quite a bit. I really didn't like the lock picking. Like I would try over and over and OVER and would literally get stuck because I couldn't get what I needed to advance
KCD is definitely in my top 5 rpgs
Why are Playstation players randomly laughing about getting this for free when this has been on gamepass since last year??
Cause it gives them likes
cos they hyped they got a game without having to ask mom for her bank card
Finally playing this and really enjoying it. I just wanted to point out something that I haven't seen anyone mention. I LOVE the fact that on long journeys to your next destination you have a mid-way camp set up... WITH a roaming merchant! That is just such a wonderful idea that I'd love all RPGs to incorporate. At first it seemed annoying until I remembered how many times in other games I'd have to slog back to town to clear enough inventory space for the next mission. Now I love it.
Forgot to mention that the story’s pretty good and there’s side quests everywhere
And the side stories are actually pretty good, definitely Kurt's side quest of ghost camp.
10 hrs into the game and I'm loving it. Playing it on pc and runs super smooth. Haven't encountered any issues so far.
Being a AA game and such small developer team, they deserve all of our support
Considering the fact that we barley get any interesting RPG games these days.... I'l take it! story seems very interesting and mysterious, not to mention unique which makes playing the game alluring. I mean... The last good open world RPG that I played and enjoyed was the witcher 3( greatest RPG of all time) and that was 4 years ago.
my last was the witcher 3 too, so tell me, is it worth?
Playing this game now. Was super excited when I saw the trailer. After playing it I will admit it has its glitches and hiccups but I do love the game, the companions and just the over all feel. I don't feel rushed to beat the game as quickly as possible but at the same time I don't feel like I am wasting my time with side missions and collections. I like it.
The game looks so sick but man the performance and some of the npc's and battle had a lot to be desired. I also noticed that I would get motion sickness from playing this game. That said going back to the aesthetics again, the starting city was absolutely NUTS and I loved exploring every second of it. The whole colonial pirate aesthetic and the amount of detail in the cities really had me exploring every single nook and cranny.
I like it so far, the companions have their own view points when doing missions and different suggestions on how to do it. I think the fighting is a good example of a simple thing done well especially because skill trumps power when you take down 7 seven enemies with red skulls to get legendary loot. As for the glitches and bugs and the sometimes awkward lip syncing it's not game breaking and I take comfort in two of the sweetest words in gaming "patch" and "update" so yeah I'm not worried 😂
Too late. I already buy it LOL
If you understand this is a AA game then you'll enjoy it. Dont come at this game with the expectation of a AAA fully protected game.
The game got at lot of flaws. Couple turn repetitive and the combat is kinda bland, but they did a great job with the dialogue, decisions maker and atmospheric. Its fun to play and thats the only thing i care about
Its so unique than worth at least try it
Don't expect a AAA? So its finished and less bugs? 😜
It's priced as a AAA game. It has the same price as the complete edition of the Witcher 3 (full game with DLCs) when that game launched. So if it's priced AAA, I expect AAA.
headsgrowback Yet Most of the AAA games that are out now aren’t even worth it But I bet you would buy those shit games tho 🙄🙄
Games like this prove that expectations are HIGHLY impressionable.
@@headsgrowback1 Yeah, but would you buy games like Anthem or Fallout 76? That weren't even worth 20$
I loved Technomancer and played a ton of it when I was going through some issues. Greedfall looks right up my alley. 😂
had checked technomancer out from the library a long while back and was surprised as well
I really like this game. I personally am a huge history buff so to see something new done in the genre with a colonial setting I just can’t help but like it. I haven’t had technical issues on the Xbox one and while the combat doesn’t blow me away it’s passable.
This game is indeed free on PS Plus right now. I gave it a shot, although these are not my type of game nowadays. It is no masterpiece by any means, but it reminds me a lot of games like Dragon Age and provides some nice nostalgic feelings. Definitely worth checking out, especially for free.
I just love how your tech guy can look like a Witch Hunter.
Played it the entire day through. The last time a game had me this interested was Witcher3. The story is actually interesting with it's mystery, but I reccomend main side quests like faction and companion quests too. Real fun game despite a few flaws.
Here after the PS PLUS announcement xD
Edit: Spelling
@gameranx If you're like me you love those "B" games , those "AA" games because we grew up with them. AAA game was not a thing when we were kids, at least not for RPGs.
When I play Greedfall I feel like I'm playing the Dragon-Age Origins, the first Deus-Ex , Morrowind or even the first Mass Effect. It's old school, well written and has a sense of "liberty" than only indie and AA games can have.
Because AAA have all those limitations : they cost so much they have to be good and for "everyone", so they feel "safe". AAA game don't take too many risks.
So it's always nice to go back to those AA games. I feel like a kid again everytime I find a new one.
"we need the middle guys" Yes, indeed. The fire fades.
i'm not a very picky person when it comes to games as long as i have fun i'm satisfied so i think i'm going to like this one if i play it.
Angry Bulldog Gaming You will if graphics aren't the be all end all, I haven't had the camera issues most people complain about and I enjoy the combat as is, it's very similar to Witcher 2
@@Mrholysymboli would definitely try it at some point thanks
Dude... This is STRUCTURED SO much like RECKONING: KINGDOMS OF AMALUR.
- minus the Amazing Combat that KOA had. (JEESUS, can you imagine, next Gen/Current gen KOA)
Reckoning: Why don't we have Horses.
Who’s here for the January plus games?
Lmao i am 😂😂
If you're still wondering whether or not to play this...YES. I find it more enjoyable than most AAA titles that come out today, and it is almost like a spiritual successor to Fable, with the tone of the Witcher. I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I am with this game. There are some obvious shortcuts that were taken to make this with a lower budget, but they are a part of its charm imo.
Got this game part of the PS free game of the month. Its a very grindy game and theres alot of things to do! If you like slow progression games with good rewards, get it, its pretty good.
