      Be careful with the Bluetooth settings. I got a Maxx and the link model. After doing all the updates I went into garage then either steering or acceleration and the transmitter stopped working but when I back out one menu the Maxx went wide open.
      I forgot to add that Traxxas is aware of this issue for Android phones.

    Ah, this reminds me, I should definitely get a motor fan for my 540XL 3S motor. The aluminum heatsink fan replacement is not a bad idea either.
    On my Hoss with a Traxxas link and the motor temp sensor connected and working, I'm showing temps that are, in my opinion, way too high at these currently 50-degree outside temps. I think as it warms up, I'll have to go ahead and opt for a protek motor fan. I gotta say, I always order from you guys for my RC stuff, I've been happy with everything by protek that I've ordered, and customer service is top notch. I appreciate you guys, and thanks for the tips here!

I have another TRX 4 that came with a cracked rear axle housing. Half the time, my charger doesn't wanna charge my batteries. If they aren't faulty, they can be very tough, and fun cars, but too many of them are faulty.

Now other Traxxas models have other problems as well but that is your standard Traxxas problems and the main ones for the 4 models i have. Just be prepared to upgrade parts right out of the box because Traxxas does not care to fix the flaws in the design.

    • @PigglyWigglyDeluxe
      @PigglyWigglyDeluxe Před 3 lety +3

      That’s because Traxxas builds platforms and not finished products. Their whole business is in upselling their upgrades. That’s the whole point of the hobby entirely is to engage RC buyers and users in upgrades and maintenance. That’s half the fun of it all

    • @jeffbryner5355
      @jeffbryner5355 Před 3 lety +2

      @@PigglyWigglyDeluxe buying parts right out of the box to make it more durable is not fun. If I pay 500 dollars for a model I shouldn't need to upgrade it. I have been racing my sc6 for about 8 months and my sc5m for about 2 years. They are still box stock. No need to upgrade. I race them every weekend and I have broke a ball stud on my sc5 and nothing on my sc6. Now thats quality to me. Don't get me started what has broke on my slashes and rustler 4x4 lol. Traxxas wants to sell u upgrades out the box Traxxas also wants you to use there chargers battery's electronics etc.. and there over priced as hell. I can buy a pro sc10 that needs no upgrades for 299 or buy a vxl slash for 400 that needs shocks hub carrier's hing pins the skid plate underneath if u didn't buy the platinum one with the lcg chassis. Vxl esc and motor go out all the time. I can go on. I know this from experience. Traxxas is over priced garbage and people love them because they don't know any better

    • @PigglyWigglyDeluxe
      @PigglyWigglyDeluxe Před 3 lety +5

      Jeff Bryner no, they aren’t finished products in the obvious sense. Think about it like this: A Honda Civic and Toyota 86 (for example) are fully assembled vehicles that are perfectly able to drive on their own and many people buy them that way and keep them that way.
      Ask any tuner and they will tell you it’s not a finished product in the sense that the person buying it already had plans to modify it before they even bought it. It’s a platform for their own unique build.
      That’s what Traxxas does and that’s why they have a full line of upgrades and accessories because they know their buyers will modify them. No one ever keeps their Traxxas models stock for very long.

    • @jeffbryner5355
      @jeffbryner5355 Před 3 lety +1

      @@PigglyWigglyDeluxe lol thats with anything then. I was in the tuner scene before the stancefcrap came around. I own a 07 civic. I had a turbo 2.2l accord. My good friend is Chuck from street outlaws brother lol. Chuck did have a fast ass 93 civic hatch pushing 750 to the wheels. When I buy a car it needs to be complete and ready to go no.matter if I decide to upgrade or not. I don't go to Honda and buy a civic half ass because someone may decide to put a k20 in it with a turbo and rims on it. Honda builds a solid car and doesn't need anything for your average person. You buy Traxxas crap and the average Joe who would drive there civic for gas mileage to Starbucks is now upgrading there civic just to make it to get coffee. What I'm saying is. Having the option to upgrade is fine but actually having to upgrade what u just bought just to use it is bs. If u sell a costumer a product with the intention that they have to upgrade it just to us it to its fullest is bull shit. Traxxas is one big ass marketing scheme. Not one other rc company have I seen be like there are. Maybe horizon hobby with there spectrum/losi products. They are still way better quality though. Traxxas is over priced junk. My vintage 90s rc10t is better quality then a brand new rustler lol I own both so I can compare

    Great video..!
    But I do not completely agree with your fan mod. By placing a smaller fan into that shroud, you have defeated the purpose of that shroud. You should seal the louvers that extend past the outer edges of that aluminum shroud so you don't get recirculation at the top. The seal will make the plastic shroud more efficient, pulling more air through the heat sink. Also...if the aluminum fan case were the correct height, the aluminum fan case could also act as a heat sink to the heat sink.
    I'm not saying that your idea is not working better(can always be tested), I'm just saying it can be even more efficient..! This was still an informative video. I was not aware of the first two products.

    I think, if you run Traxxas LiPo batteries, the Traxxas LiPo cell voltage checker should be your #1 thing to get. It is portable, stash it in your pocket, and where ever you drive, you can check your cell's voltages. You can check if you're getting low, if you are getting near storage voltage, have a high voltage, if the batteries have bad cells (over or under voltage). You can also check all your other LiPo voltages because it connects to the balance plug. That's how I check my other LiPo packs.
    There is also the Traxxas Link, which I have never used, can anyone tell me how it is?
    Aluminum parts can definitely improve the vehicle. I use the aluminum hub bearing adapter in my Slash 4x4. That is the piece thay goes on the clutch in the bearing to the center driveshaft. I also use aluminum hubs, and Pro Line aluminum shocks. Everything else is plastic, so that any damage has a weak spot to go to that is easily replaceable, and won't "shock" the rest of the components upstream.
    I have never used fans, although I have considered getting a van for my VXL-3s esc. I have had my truck get very hot, but to preserve my LiPo batteries, I generally don't run in very hot conditions. This is about 95 degrees F and higher.
    I also want to point out getting the right charger. Traxxas has pretty much made their batteries proprietary to their chargers. The cheapest unit is $50, which is all you need if you have the cell voltage checker. I wish Traxxas had a display that shows the cell and total voltage of the battery. That would be a great feature that is moronic to not include. That alone makes Traxxas chargers look cheap compared to others. EZ Peak Live is a "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist. Ideally you would be monitoring your LiPos if they are charging. So you can easily look at the charger to see the display, without having to use your phone.

    Bret, at AMain Hobbies
    As far as the battery tester goes I recently got a TRX 4M and the battery has kind of a T-shaped plug, how can a guy use the tester on that style battery?
    Do they have a female T-shaped connector to a male input that will plug into the tester?
    I purchased the tester and extra packet of connections with my Hoss from you guys last year and I thought that the extra connector packet was supposed to take care of all the Traxxas batteries but I'm at a loss to know how to test the little 4M batteries.
    Thank you for your time John C

    • @AMain_Hobbies

      Hmm, interesting. The TRX4M battery has that unique plug which doesn't easily plug into the cell checker. I'm not what a good solution for that is. You might want to give Traxxas a call and let them know you bought the tester with the adapters and see what their recommendation would be. Maybe they make an adapter for the TRX4M battery? Not sure...

      Glad it could help Douglas! For the plug on that Traxxas ESC, i'm not sure that is the best place to plug in your fan. Ideally, you'll want to plug the fans into the receiver under the AUX port, so the fans will always power on and off with the vehicle. For a two fan setup, check out this Y-Splitter: www.amainhobbies.com/western-robotics-6-servo-ysplitter-extension-wrl-yexten/p193542
      If you use the extension wire included with the fans, you do not need to switch the power wires in the fan connector. If you do not use the extension, the wires need to be switched like we showed in the video.
      Hope that helps!

    Traxxas made an error on the back of the TQi radio. Simply by removing the sticker from the back, it says “enabled”, leaving someone who gets it and doesn’t know thinking the module has been installed already. When it should’ve just said, well, anything else. Best would be “open to insert module No. ****” as I just bought a radio from a well versed and experienced seller on the ‘Bay who before purchasing, I asked since he said it was enabled, if indeed it had the module. As far as he could tell by looking, it must’ve because it said “enabled”, yet upon receiving the radio and receiver, there was no module installed. Was this his fault? Maybe, it’s only one screw away from realizing. But he sees enabled so if you’ve no experience with that certain unit, one would be inclined to think the same. Anyway, that’s my 2c.

    Don't ask me why I'm watching this Amain videos vent though I don't have a Traxxas and don't plan on getting one anytime soon...it's uploaded by Amain so it has to be at least a bit interesting, right?

    Does anyone know if these fans also work on an Xmaxx?

      No, these 30mm fans are too small; the X-Maxx uses two 35mm fans, so you'll need two of these: www.amainhobbies.com/ecopower-35x35x10mm-aluminum-high-speed-hv-cooling-fan-silver-black-ecp-7001/p1287735

      @@mezzyshredder Hmm, not sure on that. I imagine the same screws will work but not 100% on that because we haven't tried it before.

    I thought the speed and all the extras were already there when you add the TQI module. Kinda sucks you have to buy each extra option. Traxxas, you damn business geniuses making us spend our money. Lolol
