@@zachjudge5885 I guess in this review he couldn't find any quirks but wanted to review this car anyway, so yeah, let's invent some. Just like with the door handles. This system was used on several cars back in the day (in Europe at least) so I don't know what he was on about. Buried controls are on many cars too, in my G21 I need to go into the climate menu in the infotainment system to switch on/off the airconditioning. It's just an awesome machine with enough power to get out a sticky situation when I need to and the luxury that comes with it is an added bonus. One quirk you missed Doug is all the Spitfire allusions in the car: it’s made at Browns Lane Coventry, where during the war Spitfires were made. As a result, the shape of the rear lights is reminiscent of the Spitfire wing and the rings inside the rear lights are an allusion to the roundels on the aircraft. Inside the dash panel in front of the passenger loosely does the same thing. The cooling vents in the bonnet are loosely styled on the Merlin exhaust ports. There are a large number of little Easter eggs in the car alluding to it’s history too.
I had the XK-R and it’s a wonderful beefcake: it has great duality of personality. It can run down to the shops like Mrs Miggins but open the taps up and pure fury is released, along with the battlefield sound track. In the upper speed range it annihilates pretty much anything on the road, I’ve had mine up well over 160mph on the autobahn and it’s pulling like a train (although you need speed and black packs on the regular R to go over 155).
I drove mine through France to the Picos mountains in Spain, and it was the most brilliant GT ever (assuming there are two of you).
An interesting point is that the coupe and the convertible are the same car: the roof is added on after body-shell construction for the coupe. It means the coupe has superb stiffness, it isn’t reliant on the roof for rigidity.
I don’t believe the gear selector is an issue unless the car is very old. I had no problems with mine in 40K miles of ownership except constantly wondering if it had a hole in the fuel tank…

I have a 2012 XKR with the Dynamic package, next closest to the XKR-S, mostly just missing the S front end. I love the car. I disagree regarding unusable backseats and practicality. The backseats are great for kids when they are not too young and not too big. Our 4 and 6 year olds love sitting in the back. We take the car on family road trips; recently did a week long trip to the mountains. It's comfortable, sounds amazing, fast, has the space for everything we need, and is awesome on back roads. It is also split personality... quiet, comfortable cruising grand tourer, but then put it in Sport and Dynamic modes, opening the active exhaust, shifting manually, and it becomes a wild beast.

In my Jag there are no "lock/unlock" buttons for the doors. You have to pull the handle slightly to unlock the door if you're picking someone up. It's annoying because after all this time, i still open my door sometimes. I guess you'd have to experience it to know what he means...but it's annoying.

It's a weird thing to do because the X-type, S-type and XJ, which all also had touchscreens, had physical buttons for heated seats. Then with the next generation (XK, XF and I *think* the last XJ) they inexplicably moved it to the touchscreen.
So it wasn't a lack of experience, it was just a weird decision. Jaguar's always been more advanced than they get credit for, and one example is that I think they were the earliest manufacturer to use touchscreens across their entire model range.

@@nickporter4279 Why? It's just a button. Does it matter if it's on a dash or if it's on a touchscreen? You do NOT have to scroll through a menu to get to it, it's on the default home screen so it's one touch regardless of what type of button it is.
