If the Americans could build NATO bases in the Donbas, they could potentially sever this trade route. Importantly, NATO military infrastructure in Donbas could easily sever Russia's souther region by conquering the territory between the Donbas and Kazakstan; this is a centuries old strategic objective of the US and UK. If they ever succeeded, Russia would lose the Caucus regions, NATO would fully control the Black and Caspian Seas and completely isolate Iran from Russia and be able to stop the India-Russia trade route. This is why the world always sees the US and UK stirring up ethnic divisions in the Caucus region. They're trying to create a Ukraine situation so they can find a way to get troops and weapons in. Clearly, the Russo/Ukraine/NATO war is much more complicated than western media let's us believe.
