    Thanks for the review. I chose the Rigol versus the Siglent based upon the up front sense leads and the battery app feature among several other capabilities. I agree, great instrument quality vs price.

      Your welcome. I test a lot of batteries and the battery function is very useful. The DL3021A is one of my most used instruments.

    Thank you so much for making a review and a guide that in fact are very useful. Most reviews are more about the length of the video and the hype than being useful! :-)

    Thanks for the video Dan. I've got a DL3021 arriving this Friday (Found an open-box for $405!), I'm really looking forward to it!

      @@DanPattenAudioG33k Turned out it was an unopened return! I'm doing some discharge testing and it seems to work like a charm.

    Hi Dan, thank you for taking the time to put this video up - the only place I found where the RECORD function to the USB drive was explained clearly. Finally got the data I needed on to the USB drive. I thought I was going crazy when the data stopped being written when you moved away from the eye-trace screen. Have you tried using the instrument with the USB (or Ethernet) connection and remote controlling it, and logging data, via the host PC? The only criticism I have of the instrument, so far, is that the battery test does not offer a constant power discharge as well as the constant current.

    • @DanPattenAudioG33k

      Thanks. I have enjoyed this instrument so far. The main reason that I made this video was to show the recording and strip chart sampling quirks. Same here, I kept on thinking I was doing something wrong with record mode. Seems to be an easy fix to keep recording.
      Have not tried the remote connection via USB or Ethernet. That is on my "To Do" list.

    I was able to fix my Battery Test, based on how you did it. I do not know what I did wrong, but it's OK now. I emailed the tech support, but have not hear back as of today, I hope someone will respond sometimes next week, or I'll call them. I also watched your video 3rd time and you are doing a great job explaining it. Thank you again!

      @@DanPattenAudioG33k Are there some tests I should avoid? Or some "mistakes" I should also not make, because I love my equipment working, not dead! ha ha ha Also, what was the most Amps you tested? Thank you again!

    • @DanPattenAudioG33k
      @DanPattenAudioG33k  Před 3 lety +1

      Can not really think of anything to avoid (except over current or over voltage). I have rarely used my unit over a few amps, so have not pushed it too hard. Did some work qualifying a product for California BC mark qualification. For this test, I had to remove the the lithium battery safety circuit. I ended up accidentally over discharging a few batteries that resulted in exciting "vents".

    I happen to have both of these Rigol units, the DL3021A just arrived Tuesday and today is a fun day with it. Since I never had a Load tester before, I need to learn more, before trying it on something that I should not do. Do you have a video on do's and don't's for these units? I think the Rigol is descent quality and they look fine. Just wish they had the push on the dial, like many other's do. My revision is the same, it was manufactured 2-28-2020 and I do not see any fixes, to what you mentioned. Are there any updates out there that I could try? Also, what version do you have on your DP831 - and do you have any updates for it? Thank you very much for your videos! I'm a subscriber now also.

      In general, I have been pleased with the Rigol gear. I have some of their other equipment.
      I have not made any other videos concerning the electronic load (but could think about it) :) Last I checked, the latest DL3000 firmware was 1.04. I have checked a couple of different locations and have not found any versions newer. Rigol tech support has been pretty responsive. Maybe if we get a few people requesting an updated version, they will comply :)
      My DP832 is running firmware 1.14 and it looks like there is a 1.16. I'll need to update to that.
      Thanks

      @@DanPattenAudioG33k Thanks for your quick response Dan! My version is: 1.04!!! and it was manufactured February 2nd 2020. But sometimes they use older versions... who knows why they do that. In my case, I'm gonna ask them about the newer version. Also about the PERIOD + a number is dumb mistake and I'll tell them how bad that is! Let me have other items that I can ask them about, like if there is USB drive inserted, it should have an option to automatically record option! It is cumbersome that they make you go to so many steps to turn it on!! I need the recording of almost all measurements. Even if it records stuff I don't care about, I can delete it on the PC very fast. About you recording another video - make it for dumb users like me. I need to set this up, so I can reset the stuff I set to a new like condition and turn stuff on/off after I watch your video. If you can do that, I'll be forever thankful to you!

      @DanPattenAudioG33k  Před 4 lety +2

      I still like the instrument and would still buy it again. My firmware version is 1.04. I just checked today on rigolna.com website and version listed there is 1.04. So no new firmware [dang] Rigol tech support was very responsive when I discussed some of my questions and they stated that they would submit my comments/questions/bugs to the development team...

    Can you export the battery test graph from DL3021 itself or from Ultra Load software?

    • @DanPattenAudioG33k
      @DanPattenAudioG33k  Před 2 lety

      Should be able to use Ultra Load but I do not have experience with it. The DL3021 can directly write the graph data to a USB flash drive.
