    People love to hate on Limp Bizkit. Take their first 2 albums and name me anything that sounds like them. They were super original with clear cut identities. I'm talking about their music, not their personal life. There were thousands of Nu Metal bands back then but not all of them made it and only a few still matters. Limp Bizkit is one of them.
    Feel free to dislike their music. That doesn't make them any less relevant or make them less of an "artist". There's huge different between great "guitar players" and great "artists".

    I worked security at a limp bizkit concert in Dallas one year in the early 2010’s. I had never seen one of their live shows before. They turned the place into pure anarchy. Never seen anything like it before or since. The crowd jumped the barricade and most of the security guys just said F it and enjoyed the show. It was incredible. I’ve seen a lot of bands play…i’d say I saw a pretty good percentage of the rock bands of the last 30 years (never got to see pantera) Limp Bizkit and the Melvins stick out in my mind as the best concerts i’ve seen.

      @krisross8818 Před 8 lety +29

      +Vincent C Are you kidding? He does nothing that is even remotely impressive from both a technical standpoint and a creative one. He's average in every way. I think he's rated right where he should be, off the radar. He's not good and he's not bad, he's just, meh. Most underrated all time? Thats beyond a bold statement. Lets talk underrated for a moment. How about Chris Poland? Played on the first 2 Megadeth records, did a few other projects and has been playing in the fusion trio OHM for over a decade. Completely unique style, technically gifted, amazing legato and phrasing, and aside from hardcore Megadeth fans few know shit about him. That is underrated. Look up Poland OHM, see for yourself. Lets do another, Paul Masvidal from Cynic. I could also include Jason Gobel who played on the first Cynic record but lets stay with Paul. Until the past few years Cynic was disbanded after recording one record in the early 90's called Focus. They were wrongly included in the Florida death Metal scene and wound up getting booed playing gigs with bands like Cannibal Corpse. For this and other reasons they disbanded after one brilliant record. Like Poland Masvidal has an original style and approach, is a gifted technician, and a brilliant composer. He played on a Death record called Human and like Poland few outside of the Death faithful know his name. Check out the Cynic song Textures and see for yourself. I could on and on with players few know about who are amazing musicians. I hate Limp Bizkit yet I know who Wes Borland is. If you dig em that's fine, to each his own but to put the tag most underrated on him is ridiculous considering the fact that he is well known and is average in every way. He seems like a nice guy but that don't cut it in this discussion. To be underrated you must be an amazing musician who few know about outside of a select fan base. Borland does not qualify.

He mixes annoying douchey vocals with screaming and using that combination to get the most out of his audience. Wes Is a fantastic guitarist and always plays what right for the song. Because I can do the same, Metallica has a new song with the worst lyrics ever written, and Cobain crooning Grandma take me home! And moaning about the food he had to eat is ultra cringeworthy while LB have some truly amazing songs with powerful lyrics. The difference between lb and any other band that has had mainstream success is that LB have a lot of great lyrics on the unknown songs and silly lyrics on the hits, while other bands seem to get it the other way around.. While Cory Taylor wants to slit your throat and fuck the wound, and Maynard keenan sang about his dick and shitting the bed with Tool and the less said about puscifer the better...
      Rollin And My Generation are at least really energetic tracks and self aware enough to be humorous unlike the tragically awful lyrics on some songs by other great bands out there,

    A lot of people say Wes is soooooooo good...and well he is good...and good doesn't always mean he's playing 157 notes per second or whatever. A good guitarist is one that can come up with original parts that don't sound like every other guitar player out there...do his own thing. Sure...it takes skill to play fast and all that, not denying that...just saying it's also refreshing to see someone do their own style and not try to copy everything else out there. He does alot of power chord type stuff...easy peasey...but yeah, he still finds ways to throw in really odd sounding parts that just fit the songs well. That's the objective...to play for the song. Besides...Wes could be an absolute monster in his normal everyday practicing life for all we know...but you have to write for what the songs allow...and Limp Bizkit doesn't exactly call for crazy guitar solos all over the place...not that kind of music.

Wished I could have afforded it then, but for a 7 string, I just couldn't yet justify it, as I just wasn't playing enough 7 string stuff. But man, the Vintage Violin color, flame top, double edge bridge, matched headstock, I mean the thing was just fantastic. The Edge Pro was even prepared for mounting a LR Baggs system into, with removable inserts in the saddles that fit the LR Baggs piezo elements, and tapped holes on the trem block meant for mounting a control PCB. Wes, Sam & Jon… with a Corey Taylor, Chad Grey, etc on vocals…woulda been other level. Fred has tons of talent, made some really cool choices at times…but man, that whiney self depreciating cool guy shit takes LB down several pegs. Listen to “Counterfeit”, “Indigo Flow”, “Just Like This”, “Nobody Like You”, “The One”…it’s like a different band! Then listen to the lyrics of “Rollin’”🤦🏻‍♂️

Some of their songs were ok, borderline good.. but what I really LOVED was this dude on the guitar and John Otto on the drums.. The sound on the album was mixed so well and sounded amazing through my aiwa XtraBass disc player Lol.. Those awesome guitar riffs with those beats was just so good.

I'd change the magnetic pups maybe but I digress. Wes and the ban rawked my night about 4 weeks ago in Sydney, AUS. Great gig, an enigmatic man and moreso an innovative and creative guitarist. Just add a tight drummer to the mix, and equally creative bassist and DJ and with freedom Fred takes to the fore.
