  • According to the owner, this BMW hasn't been washed in ... a year. You heard that right. A YEAR!!! How that's even possible is beyond us, but we're here to help:)
So, in this video, Nick and Yvan demonstrate the process of evaluating the vehicle/paint, strategizing about what to do and why, and then cleaning the exterior. Also included in this detail? A polish with the Gold Standard Polishing System.

Nick has done well to say about the foam from the gun not being thick- its not a measure of how well the product performs, foam is only just aesthetic! you just need lubrication between your wash media and the panel. Plus just having fun and enjoying simply cleaning your car! Its very ASMR for me!

Used all clean out of the 16 ounce bottle for rims and wheels. Getting a gallon and will dilute myself. Also, have the rinseless and incredible suds on the way. Iron remover was sold out. My winter wash is rinseless pump sprayed at home, drive to the self serve wash, rinse there and rinseless from the pump sprayer before driving home and rinseless on 2 microfiber towels and a twisted loop drying towel after I dress the tires. And rinseless on the interior using Yvans damp and dry towel method. Thanks for the CZcams education 😎

Great video and reminded me it is time for my annual deep clean as well! For many years, have been performing an annual deep clean to remove and then apply 2 coats of a Turtle Wax Ice Seal N Shine Hybrid Sealant Spray Wax polymer sealant that lasts one year. I use rinseless wash about once a month to keep my garage kept daily driver clean. I am now running low on my half gallon of Purple Power Vehicle & Boat Wash (pH10) which I dilute 1 oz to 3 gallons of water that I have been using for the annual deep clean to remove the old sealant. To replace the Purple Power, would it be advisable to use DIY Rinseless at a higher concentration and with your fine grade clay towel and be as effective in getting down to totally clean paint? Or would DIY All Clean perform better than either for the deep clean in preparation for the 2 coats of polymer sealant?
    Thanks and love your videos!

We recently washed my son's CRV. He's had it for a couple of years and never washed it. That's him. The paint needed clay, badly, but the iron deposits were relatively minor. After a quick one step, there were a few scratches and the marring was relatively minor. Silver paint that looked a shade brighter afterwards. Hope to have inspired him. Probably not.

My water is pretty filled with minerals and when it rains lately the water is also very dirty. Wouldn't it be a good idea to to use waterspot remover a few times a year to maintain the coating?

Would you have used the brush on the paint if you weren’t planning to polish the car already? Also is it necessary to do a chemical decon wash before or during the physical/towel decon? Or is it fine to use the towel with rinseless as a lubricant without the iron/bug remover

    • @diydetailofficial

    • @CottonCandyGabe

Depends on the strength of the wax. A decontamination towel, or mitt shouldn't strip a wax or ceramic off a car. And you really should only decontaminate your paint when its needed. Maybe once to twice a year, maybe slightly more depending on where you live or how your weather is.

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  Před 8 měsíci +1

No, it will not degrade a good wax, it has no abrasives. You can use it as often as you want, but 1-2 times a year is sufficient.

Typical bucket wash would include two buckets, foam, rinse, foam..... several wash mitts. I usually go to about the belt line first, then wash the bottoms with different mitts. Blow dry with a leaf blower... ceramic gloss on a gauntlet towel. Bingo, the vehicle is clean. I always clean the wheels and tires first once they've cooled.

I only have one foamer so, I'm trying to determine which one to use the foamer on. I don't have a compressor so, the IK is the only means to foam. Haven´t washed mine in 2 years, except of course inside the car. You basically add a 2nd coat ofprotctant by doing so xD
After washing the car again it looks as new and it saves money. I also don´t care how my car looks. It´s a tool to get me from one point to an other nothing more nothing less, it just should work.
Oil changes and all that stuff is 1000x more important. Polishing the car all the time will destroy the clear coat way sooner. The car doesn´t even look bad for being not washed in 1 year.

Here is my 10 Step DIY Detail Wash Method:
    1) Iron Remover: (Optional as needed) Use in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight as the product has a powerful and unpleasant odor. Spray Iron Remover (IR) directly onto a cool surface (wheel or panel) and allow it to dwell for 4-5 minutes. Lightly agitate, if necessary, any ferrous particles will dissolve, forming a purple solution. Do not allow the product to dry on the surface. Rinse off or layer All Clean Multipurpose Cleaner overtop as part of Pre-Treatment.
    2) Pre-Treatment: Spray All Clean (AC) ready to use bottle or dilute 15:1 in pump sprayer to foam lower vehicle body panels, wheels, tires and contaminated areas (avoiding windows).
    3) Pre-Wash: Add 30 ml or 1 oz of Incredible Suds (IS) to water in a foam gun/cannon and stir. Spray IS overtop the AC and allow it to dwell. Scrub lower body panels and areas with heavy contamination of dirt, grime, bugs, bird droppings etc. using a mitt or soft bristle brush.
    4) Wheels & Tires: Empty contents of foam gun/cannon into a dedicated wheel wash bucket with 3-4 gallons of water and froth. Scrub wheel wells, barrels, wheels and tires using a wheel & tire brush. Rinse the vehicle from top to bottom removing all soap and chemicals.
    5) Contact Wash: Refill foam cannon with 30ml or 1 oz of IS and stir. Spray IS starting at the top and working down and around the entire vehicle. Empty contents of foam gun/cannon into a clean wash bucket with 3-4 gallons of water and add another 30-60 ml or l -2 oz of IS to the wash bucket, add water to froth. Soak a plush wash mitt or Legacy Sponge in the bucket and wash one panel at a time using straight lines with minimal pressure. Flip the mitt or sponge after each panel or as needed and dip into the IS wash bucket after using both sides.
    6) Decontamination: Use DIY Clay Towel (synthetic decontamination perforated towel) with Iron Remover, Ceramic Gloss or Quick Beads depending on lubricant needs. Shake the bottle to mix well before applying.*Be sure to break-in a new Clay Towel by first using it on a window to remove the factory coating. Soak the Clay Towel in the wash bucket to lubricate. Fold the Clay Towel into four equal sides. Spray once on the Clay Towel, once on the panel then deposit the Clay Towel where sprayed on the panel. starting at the top and working down and around the entire vehicle saving the bottom half for last. Same process no matter which lubricant is used (IR, CG or QB). Using minimal pressure rub the Clay Towel in a smooth motion against the panel until it gently glides across the surface. After using all four sides of the Clay Towel, dip it in the wash bucket to clean and lubricate. Continue the process until all panels are decontaminated. Rinse the vehicle thoroughly from top to bottom.
    7) Seal & Protect Option 1- Ceramic Gloss (CG): Shake the bottle to mix well before applying. After the vehicle has been rinsed and is still wet, lightly mist detail spray into the drying towel and onto the intended surface. Wipe with a clean, dry plush microfiber towel, buffing until the product is removed to create a protected streak-free shine. 8) Seal & Protect Option 2-Quick Beads (QB):Shake the bottle to mix well before applying. After the vehicle has been rinsed and is still wet, lightly mist QB detail spray over the entire exterior surface of the vehicle including windows and wheels. Let Quick Beads dwell on the exterior of the vehicle for 30-60 seconds. Rinse off starting at the bottom of the vehicle and working up to the top to activate QB. Continue to spray until the foaming action disappears. Dry off the vehicle with a premium drying towel. Starting with the glass first. If used in direct sunlight only apply to one panel at a time and rinse after 15 seconds.
    9) Tire Dressing: Spray directly onto clean, dry tires evenly. Allow the product to penetrate, then wipe away excess. For best results, apply to clean and dry tires.
    10) Interior Clean & Protect: This car interior protectant spray is a jack-of-all trades and can clean every single surface inside your car from the dashboard to glass, plastic, vinyl, and more. For the best results, spray the interior car cleaning product onto a clean microfiber cloth or towel to avoid overspray. Wipe the interior surface evenly with a microfiber cloth, repeat until your vehicle’s interior surfaces are clean and dressed. Wipe away any excess product or buff to reduce shine.

Probably the reason the vehicle did not seem like it hadn't been washed in a year is because the daughter was away at college and you mostly walk everywhere you need to go while there. The only time you need to drive is when returning home once a month and for holidays. Also the college I went to had a parking garage so it was not exposed to the elements everyday. Mystery Solved!

@@diydetailofficial If the brush were truly "completely safe" for the paint, we'd opt for it over microfiber wash mitts to clean car paint. Let's be realistic here; you're aware it's causing scratches on the paint 100% of the time.

There's no way has that car not been washed in over a year. The wheels are way too clean, where's the thick layer of brake dust and traffic film?. How many miles did they drive in that year, just 2? My wheels are coated and they look worse than that after a month. I think someone has told you a fib

@@diydetailofficial it could've just been the wheels that have been done more recently or maybe I couldn't see all the contaminants but you know, and I'm sure that you've cleaned a fair few dirty daily runners in your time too, that a year is a lot of grime to accumulate on the wheel. It may have just been not driven often or in "bad" conditions, unfortunately the uk weather makes car maintenance a constant battle all throughout the year
