    The problems were not entirely related to his playing two sports. The main reason he had football trouble at UNC is because Mack Brown left UNC the year Curry arrived and went to Texas while tearing the UNC football program completely apart on his way out the door. He never had a stable coaching staff in college football and certainly nothing compared to the Mack Brown UNC system.

  • @calcaliforniawilliams

    If he had gone to any FBS college other than North Carolina, he would have been a QB in the NFL, and one of the all-time NFL great QB's. He had 4 different offensive coordinators at UNC. UNC took his football career in reverse. It's a tribute to his natural born skills that he was able to make himself a better-than-average NFL wide receiver. The reason that athletes don't play two sports, or more, in college has nothing to do with sports: it's because coaches use up so much of the athlete's time, that there's no time to study, even if you take the easiest major, when you're playing two sports in college. If college coaches were paid to get the most academically out of their recruits, someone like Ronald Curry could have played in the NBA and the NFL, like Florida State's Charlie Ward did.

    @CargillGraphics Před 11 měsíci

    Ronald Curry's success as a college and pro football player had nothing to do with being a two sport athlete. It was Ronald Curry's injury his sophomore year that changed his trajectory. Curry sustained a devastating Achilles tendon injury when a Georgia Tech defensive lineman had him in the grasp and his cleat got stuck in the turf. Curry had dominated on the field until then. A year later he returned, but he ran with a limp and he was never the same. It had nothing to do with him playing two sports. If he had not torn his Achilles that year, he would have been as successful on the football field as everyone had imagined. Another factor that played a part - both coaches that recruited Curry, Dean Smith for basketball, one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time, and Mack Brown, the highly successful Tar Heel football coach, left. Brown left after Curry's freshman season, and the legendary basketball coach, Dean Smith abruptly retired in October of Curry's freshman year at UNC, and Curry never played a season under Dean Smith. After Curry's devastating Achilles injury, he had to try and establish himself when he came back, with a coach who had not recruited him. It was Curry's Achilles injury that hampered him, not playing two sports in college.

    I think he was better as a receiver. Great athletes can look great in high school. He seemed like he was more of a running quarterback. Also Michael Vick did not have a great career. With his athleticism he could of been maybe a great receiver. Even though that is speculation. He did have one 1,000 yard receiving season. That is with never playing the receiver position. Another thing was he had to be a part time quarterback because they kept getting hurt.

Outstanding athlete average player o the top level. he was able to get by in highschool with his athleticism but once he went to higher levels people caught up to him. you need skill in the nfl at QB and to make the nba you have to be skilled as a point guard. he was neither. great story though.
