    The pond looks great have you had to do much maintenance on the bog filter?

      Thanks, not really I just weeded it and turned and rinsed some of the gravel and vacuumed out via the snorkle, half hour job really 👍🐟

    Your ponds look great can you tell me how they are reinforced and how deep,we have built an above ground pond with wood and steaks driven into the ground but the weight of water is bowing the sides out,can you suggest anything

      Thanks, the above ground tanks we have are purpose built fiberglass tanks with wooden frames so are self supporting 👍🐟

    Absolutely love your pond. I’m in the process of getting bits together to build a natural looking pond myself. A quick question, I’m wanting my pond lined with rocks internally and stones on the bottom like yours but I would like to have an aerated bottom drain as they seem to be really good. Do you think I could make it work with the stones on the bottom and a bottom drain? Obviously leave a 6” gap or something of stones away from around the bottom drain. Cheers

      Hi, my immediate thought would be its potentially going to cause trouble down the line. Koi being grazers will move the stones around so eventually they will end up in the drain, overtime possibly blocking it. Only my opinion tho as I've never done this 👍🐟

      @@ecosystemkoi9159 thanks. I suppose with the koi being grazers it takes away the need for a bottom drain? Especially if you have stones in the bottom and your water is crystal clear so makes you think why do Les everyone craze about having them. What size stones did you go for? Also, I see you have no air stones in your pond which is another biggie that I’ve seen a lot of pond owners craze about being a must?( I’m a complete newbie so please excuse the silly questions )

      @@agustinholopes4501 No problem, I do have air stones but only use them in the warmer months, I would always recommend air stones. I used 5-10mm gravel for the bottom. It doesn't take away the need as such as I still clean the bottom periodically 👍🐟

    Loving the pond, really nice job. Iv just built my first one and added four small koi between 3-4 inch’s long. It’s been 48hrs and they’re still sat on the bottom. Looking for some advice on how long until they get used to the pond and whens the best time to feed?? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    • @ecosystemkoi9159
      @ecosystemkoi9159  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, at these temperatures (assuming you're uk) and given they are small they will be on the bottom where the water is warmest, this is perfectly normal, when the pond temp rises to 12 °C or so they should start being more active and you can start feeding. If you're unsure I would advise water tests to rule out any parameter issues 👍🐟

      @@ecosystemkoi9159 thanks for the reply. Yes am in the uk (north west). Water temp tested today was at 0, i will do another water test tomorrow to see if anything has changed since I have put the fish in. Thanks for the advice.

    Have a question how did you connect your canister filter with the water pump. I don’t see any piping coming out of the pond. Do you have a bottom drain.
