Xerox 2400 duplicator VS speedy printer

In this commercial the Xerox 2400 duplicator is compared to a "speedy" printer, where a typewritten master must first be created, then etched, and various other complicated steps undertaken to make it operate.

I'm gonna have to post this on the forums, but I wonder why the 2400 had a domed copy platen. Even models before it had a flat platen glass. Something must have worked differently than the norm to need a domed glass.

I'm not a technician, but I guess it has something to do with the optic design in the machine. If you watch this video czcams.com/video/OIaq-DyDRlc/video.html and about 13min 20sec in the video, you can see how the mirror is moving. There is no lens or lamps that are moving, so I guess they had to design the domed copy platen in that way.
