Its incredible how highly regarded Van Basten is while he had to retire so young due to injury.
Just to put it in perspective. Mitrovic, Bruno Fernandes, Nathan Aké, Divock Origi and Serge Gnabry are all the age Van Basten was when he played his last game at 28. He was at his peak when he had to retire. Imagine all the goals he still could've scored. He had already won 3 Balon d'Ors and won the Euros. Maybe he would've gotten the Netherlands their first ever World Cup if he was still there.

The best players of all-time are Messi, Maradona, Cruyff and Pele. They are all on a different level than the rest. They were all playmakers and goalscorers. They could all dribble the ball in spectacular fashion but also had a high football IQ and great passing. I genuinely never understood the C. Ronaldo GOAT debate. He is an all-time great goalscorer, but not an all-time great footballer. He lacks the vision and genius these other legends had.
