Unlike some other companies who make orchestral libraries , Spitfire didn't just fob me off with excuses like "oh we've never had this problem with our libraries before lets try and sort it by email", Spitfire took time in one to one chats, and weren't happy until all issues were resolved, they were always polite and very helpful

@@XiyuYang To be fair, the legatos in Albion One aren't comprehensive over the whole orchestra (like for the brass you get two sets of octaves and one mid patch). They're great, but only useful in specific circumstances. This new library seems to have more detail in the core orchestral content - i.e. the ensemble patches which is what this library is about. I think if I were choosing today, between the two, I'd go for Abbey Road One partly because of that? I say that as someone who uses Albion One *a lot*
Also, it depends if you're after an all-in-one package, or if you're pairing this library with one that isn't based on ensembles (Like BBCSO or EW Hollywood Orchestra or whatever). In my instance, because I have legatos from other sources, I don't need this to come with legatos by default. The ensemble patches are what I'm after in this instance.
Talking about price, you may get more bang for your buck with Nucleus compared to this, but this is still quite competitively priced if you compare it to a lot of what else is out there (Cinesamples, Orchestral Tools, Vienna Symphonic Library etc.).

I wish I was starting now and I don't have any library to buy this one. For what I've heard, it's my favourite. However, I think that in other to make this one a true "all in one" library, you should've included PIANO and HARP sounds. But this one is closer than Albion One, as you have true orchestral percussion.
I like how the woodwinds sound more "flute-like" than in Albion One. And all the instruments in general sound really good. So you've done a very great job!
Unlucky me, I already have a lot of the Air Studio One libraries and I don't have a lot of money for this. In any case, great job and I wish in a future I can afford this one, as it seems to be a great deal! The only other thing I wish is that you don't forget about the other libraries (the Air Studio and the Maida Vale ones).

  • @anatomicallymodernhuman5175

Finally some really great cymbals from Spitfire! The short brass is exceptional, too. The glock is magic. The strings are not as realistic as BBC SO. But maybe that's down to the high/low mixes. Hopefully, when the individual parts are released, they'll up the game there.

Like for example, I’ll often write string parts with two hands using the strings patch in Albion One, and then work out how I’m dividing the parts into individual sections using BBCSO... or just leave it with Albion One as that does give a different colour... or some combination of the two.

Maybe with long notes it can sound legato. Even Originals instruments, knowing what you are doing, can sound like a legato. But the key is to use long notes in a really fast passage with short notes. There is where the legato shines the most and the long patch sounds ugly.

People put too much stock in performance legato. I scored plenty of indie films back in the day with EWQLSO which had no true legato patches. Legato transitions are nice little detail, but surely not make or break in my opinion. When i saw the email from Spitfire, i went to the Abbey Road One page, and just listened to the Demos without looking at any of the details whatsoever. I wanted to just listen without thinking about price point, or anything. I listened , and i thought, WOW. That sounds fantastic! I certainly didn't think "Hey, i dont hear any legato transitions!!" And i seriously doubt the film director would miss then either. LOL If you can't make this library sound incredible, then your problems span beyond lack of true legato patches. I'm willing to bet that most of the "complainers" are people that sit around waiting for the next product to come out that they can whine about, and have never actually scored a film. You won't hear complaints from real live working composers.
