We hope you've enjoyed this series in 2023. We cannot wait to bring it back for 2024!!! Matt x
See you next year Matt and Tommy
I'm so glad you do this after every race. It's the perfect end to any race weekend. Can't wait until 2024 :)
Also, perhaps a 'funniest tweets for the 2023 season' videothingy?
please?

Nyck De Vries closer on points to Checo than Checo is to Max
Max driving RB 19 to 19 wins

So glad that the year was such a success for you two. Well earned!
Looking forward to 2024 already … Goodluck on your live show later this week. Next year do one in the US
The fact that it’s Leclerc managing his strategy and the fight for P2 in the constructors at 200mph speaks volumes about the brains on Ferrari’s pit wall.
I think it's a bit more nuanced than this. We don't see what's happening on the pitwall. They will undoubtedly talk there, and make a decision and stick to it. But we don't hear or see anything of that. Charles did make a more proactive tactic, but most strategists on the wall are mostly conservative. Could it be more proactive from the wall? Maybe.
Wow, he let Perez through: this is surely worth more than all the degrees you need to become an f1 engineer.
@@thekyuwaA good engineer does not necessarily make a good strategist. Ferrari's strategy has been a clown show since Arrivabenne left.
Which is funny because the lack of strategic acuity (when compared to Carlos) is one of the main things people usually throw at him.
@@D.H.1987 how?
The one time Sainz lets the team do the strategy and they had the balls to tell him "we're waiting for a safety car" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No he actually asked to stay out himself for the safety car
What was the ulternative brain box?
@@mikasr.5 He said he was actually lost regarding the team strategy... that's when he got that reply.
@@mikasr.5 no he didnt wtf - he just didnt know what their intent was which fair enough since they straight up forgot about him even tho at some point he was in the points and then of course... dnf. classic ferrari.
@@sv-bd5emHe was nowhere near in the points. They had to pit because like everybody else he was on a 2 stopper. He was 19 laps stuck behind Stroll who also was on the hards. Would he pitted on mediums he would have again been behind stroll in p13. People blaming Ferrari and not putting it on Sainz is such a Sainz move. He QUALIFIED P16. The one weekend they need him and he bottles it
Yukis little message for Franz at the start was lovely, man. for someone who is shy and only really comms when angry, it was really nice for him to do that.
Same from max right after winning, it’s crazy how many current and former F1 drivers Franz has mentored
😇 tha was lovely!!!!
@@hunterreeves6525 I totally agree! I think Yuki just imprinted on me a little more because it's never really been heard from him. I'm not sure why but him saying thanks for all the Advice just got me, it's an acknowledgment of respect and the lad actually learning cause he recognises the help and changes the man helped him make.
And yes, amazing how many have been mentored and appreciate him.
Max’s title are indirectly bought by Franz because of his trust in Honda when nobody believed is commendable
@@hunterreeves6525are there any other current drivers other than Yuki, Danny, Max, and Carlos?
Some say Ferrari are still waiting for that Safety Car....

Ferrari are checking if they are waiting or not...
So we are doing plan safety car? Question
Things to consider adding for 2024:
- A return of the Constructors Meme championship on this show.
- Pushing one of the Fantasy games and doing a quick recap on one of the podcasts perhaps.
- Keeping track of your Predictions over the season with graphics. Perhaps have a way of having "chat" as a third player, maybe using polls?

Norris was on 12 points when Alonso was 117
Ended with 205/6
Norris nanana
Yeah, McLaren impressed me the most this season. Ferrari and Mercedes just floundered around like a bunch of fish. Aston somehow blew an amazing lead.
But mclaren was faster more consistently unlike ferrari who was fighting for p5 and p6 most of the time, overall mclaren was the faster car this season but lando bottled p4 by some bad quali performances, still great season for him
@@greenfj1466He needs to trim out those qualifiying errors to take the next step. Too many mistakes have been creeping in lately.
To be fair, even Vettel in 2020 had to self-manage the Ferrari Strategy.
The Dutch driver Nyck de Vries got transformed to an Estonian driver called Paul de Vries... According to the driverstandings of f1tv 😅

Ferrari with Sainz really said: "I took a calculated risk, but damn am i bad at math"
I mean 8 SC out of 15 races make it seem like a coin flip though you would need to make adjustments for the likelihood at a given stage of the race.
In any case, a realisation of an unfavorable event doesn't prove that your strategy was bad or wrong. In the end, we just don't know what the other strategy options have looked like.
@@t3ss33 They still left him out WAY too long to point where even getting a shorter pitstop loss from under SC wouldn't have benefited them due to how much time he lost on those old tyres, and wouldn't of had enough time to claw back through the pack.
It would have been better to pit around lap 42-45 for Mediums and go from there, they really wouldn't have gained much if anything from a late safety car. For reference, Stroll who was one place ahead of Sainz before the first round of pitstops did this exact same strategy - Hard, Hard, Medium - and finished 10th.
There was no guarantee of points by sticking to a regular strategy, but it was their best shot at it and they threw it away along with their chances of fighting for 2nd in the championship. Keeping him out for ages hoping for a late safety car was just silly
What a season it has been. For F1 AND for P1! I'm so proud of what you guys did this year and big kudos to Matt for still supporting Ferrari.
Been the worst season of all time if you're wanting a title fight. Rest of the 19 drivers was interesting.
@@TheYorkshireGeordieeven as a Max Fan i have to agree that the title fight was boring even for me because of course im happy he won but i want him to fight for the title or at least have more fights for p1 at least (tbf few races were good like quatar and monza but yeah) BUT everything behind him was actually pretty good and probably the closest racing we had in a long time
Important notice for the points: Sainz did NOT finish. He went into the pits in the last lap and never went out.

By that logic: do lapped cars also not ever finish the race?
@@Thund3rstorm They finished the race, if you look at the results: Sainz DNF.

Max winning 19 races and leading 1003 laps is a huge feat, we might not ever see such dominance again. I still enjoyed this season, looking forward to 24
One can only hope this dreadful season is never repeated. Might be top worst season in the history of the sport. I've been watching for 27 years and this was the first season I just stopped watching races multiple times.
@@joshn1678 Yeah, it was Boring. But nontheless has Max shown that he and RB are the best Package you could get at this moment.
Don’t think we’ll ever see someone lead 1000 laps ever again, that’s insane
unless we get a 30 race calendar of course@@Duval-In-The-Wall
5:25 They should've done the Stroll strategy. Stroll went Hard-Hard-Medium. He finished P10 in a slower car than ferrari. They could've pitted Sainz to mediums with about 15 laps to go. Once again like in Vegas Ferrari was better on Mediums than on Hards.
But on hards he was slower than Stroll. At best he would only taken him, no one else.
they shouldve gone hard medium or ideally started with mediums so he could get some pace since he was starting from p16
@Kaspa My brother in christ, he was 19 laps stuck behind Stroll in a Ferrari. He drove like Stroll against Stroll
@@Almin88 but do you know the difference they had in these tires, aka, how many laps each had on them. Seems like not...
@@biljancaninYour excuses for sainz are illogical 🤣🤣. I'm glad leclerc beat sainz in the drivers championship 🤣🤣.
My favorite conspiracy theory this season is how Matt tried to curse RB so that Max would lose, then Checo underperformed greatly, then he stopped trying to curse them and Checo started performing again, coincidence? I DON'T THINK SO!
That's Checo's role in Red Bull: Catch any curse aimed at Max like a lightning rod.
MATT, never do that again please! No curse can stop my fellow countryman Max and it only affects my guilty pleasure!!! we can't have thát! 🤣
Perez started performing again? Did you watch races in the another reality? Perez always been mediocre and It is his maximum. He did bad job for the last 3 races too. His quality results was awful. He should have fired from the team.
@@kakhak hmm mediocre.. 6 GP wins, 35 podiums, DS 2020 & 2021 P4, 2022 P3 and 2023 P2 sounds pretty mediocre... right?
@@SuperPassionflowerin an RB that has won all but 1 race and so many mistakes and not even having half the points of the other driver, he may not be a mediocre driver, but it was a very disappointing season.
Matt really needs a vacation to Disney World. We need to cheer him up and I feel like some Mickey Mouse ears and $30 churros would work.
Carlos be like 'don't I need to pit?'
Ferrari pit wall 'copy we are checking'
I’m assuming they got Paul devries from Estonian Paul Aron who raced for trident in f2 this weekend
Important note Sainz is labled as DNF. He pitted on last lap. I also find it hilarious Merc only got p2 in the championship because of a questionable call from the stewards about checo penalty. Toto is absolutely silent on the whole thing being decided like that. I guess this is ok when it goes in his favor. No Toto no that's so not right.😂😂
Not really questionable, Perez caused a collission, I’d argue its as stonewall as Russell’s penalty last week.
@@deeznoots6241 If that's the case then Lando would have gotten the penalty. Last week George turned in on Max. My argument is not that it was a bad call. I think it could have been called a racing incident or a penalty. Its more how that penalty played a big deciding factor into Merc finishing position and of course silence.
@@jonathanm3108 Lando was ahead and did not turn in on Perez. Perez took too much speed in the corner and was unable to take the corner without either causing a collission or forcing Lando off the track.
The impact a penalty may have on championship positions should absolutely never be considered, for that leads to the possibility of biased decisions in favour of preferred drivers/teams and letting drivers drive dirty.
Nah, Checo didn't even try turning into the corner. You can see it on the stearing wheel input. He could have turn in before and not cause the collision, but he threw his elbows out and therefore got penalized. Fair decision. Even as a Ferrfan for over 25 years, it was the right decision. Unlike the 10 grid penalty to Carlos in Vegas...
Here's the thing. Even if there was a safety car in the last laps, Sainz would have still fallen out of the points. There was no strategy.
That car had no pace, no strategy would have helped Sainz
@@fingerprints2983 hard - hard - pit lap 57 💀
@@sv-bd5em Maybe P9 was possible, but that's it, after the crash the the car was f***d up
@@fingerprints2983Maybe it was just sainz who was slow, leclerc really pushed the car beyond its limits and carlos could not, thats how i see it
@@greenfj1466 Just stop with "beyond it's limits" crap - it's impossible to push the car over cars theoretical performance capabilities.
Perez penalty was 100% suspect. Pretty much gifted Mercedes-AMG #2 in the Contructors...
It was 100% worth the 5 sec penalty. He just didn't want to turn and hit Lando. Im a Ferrari fan for over 25 years and even tho it did cost Ferrari the 2nd place, it was 100% Checo's fault
They take past incidents into consideration, Checo is running into someone every race, so they aren't going to give him a break.
I love how people think they know more than the stewards lol. Checo missed the apex by a mile, wasn't ahead and crashed into Lando lol. Of COURSE he deserved a penalty, he deserved a much bigger penalty because he continues to do it.
@coast2coast00 Ah, I did not account for that. Checo has been rather bumper car'ish.
Max and Ocon have been late on the brakes and didn't leave space much a few times this year. Maybe this is a statement that Era has ended.
@joshn1678 yeah, the broadcasters did question the stewards either, right? Oh wait, they did.
Normally it's Carlos that is thinking during the race, this time it was Charles
C est une légende pour Sainz
This year had only 3 different people as the race winners, and two of them are Red Bull.
Respect to Matt for acknowledging and appreciating talent and skill when he see it no matter who his favourite is, RESPECT
glad he did it, but hard to ignore a driver with the best season in history and probably at this stage already the highest peak in history (last 3 seasons).
@@daarom3472 There are many within British media and social media who do ignore this because Max isn’t their favourite driver
Indeed. I've just left a very strongly worded comment on another video from someone who would rather drink bleach than praise Max and Red Bull.
@@AZBCDE tbf it's hard for me to judge. I never followed the British media during Lewis' dominance so I have to take people's word for it that the media mostly praised Lewis rather than the car (which seems insane given that car was significantly more dominant than the RB this year).

Thank you matt for explaining to netflix fans why this season from Max was special 👍
Also some non-"netflix fans" need to understand this apparently. I think most people get that this was a special season from Verstappen, but still there are quite a few just dismissing it by saying "the RB is a second quicker than any other car". Which is bullshit (especially later in the season) and even if it were true, it still would be an outstanding season by Max.
well, no, he does not have a teammate that is any good. If Lewis had Perez as at teammate between 2014 - 2016, he would have won almost all the races. The fact that Max got lost a couple of races to Perex shows he is not anything special. RB must put a proper competitive teammate in the other seat.
@@ddha0000"proper competitive teammate"
So that means lewis is not on the conversation here😂
@@ddha0000Don’t drown in your own tears you CLOWN
Perez has been absolutely crap this season and is still comfortably P2. Max did all he needed to, but other drivers had much better teammates when they were dominating.
So many amazing stats to sum up Verstappen's season. He has gotten 575 out of a maximum of 620 points, which is 93%. He won 86% of the races. He is both first and shared third for most consecutive wins - in a single season. He got pole 12 times and fastest lap 9 times. He had one penalty all year, and he still won that race. So I'm glad to see you acknowledge that it's not just a meme, it's not normal, and that yes, Verstappen has been absolutely sensational this year.
And he passed Lewis in the statistic of average points per race...
@@Saiko-Johnny when you have zero competition that's easy to do lol.
Absolutely pointless when you need competition to have RACES. WE NEED RACES.
@@joshn1678oh he had competition after qatar and he won anyway.
Absolutely! Max was fantastic and it was an honor to be able to one day tell my grandkids about the time I watched Max win dam near every record F1 had. 🎉

No F1 weekend is complete without the memes video from you guys, so thanks for the great content throughout the year!
Thanks for content, guys! Really enjoyed.
Its been great sharing with both of you this year!! Looking forward to 2024
Taking out FL and Sprint points, Max has averaged 23.5 points per weekend this season. For context, the 2nd best ever average is Schumacher 2002, at 22.4, then the next 10 best individual seasons of all time are between 20 and 21 points averaged per race. Schumacher 2002 decimated any other season, and Max has just gone and decimated that record itself. It's the best season anyones ever had, and I'd be surprised if we see another one that successful in the next 25 years at least. Just a joke of a year from Max.
I still think race win percentage is a bigger statistic. Point scores haven't been equal throughout the years.

Predicting Bottas will have a bad race is about as bold as saying water is wet. Yes occasionally he dragged that car up to the points but that was the exception rather than rule.
I absolutely agree with what Matt said at 8:41. I just left a very strongly worded comment on another video, where I basically called out the uploader of it for basically slandering Max Verstappen and Red Bull's achievements in 2023, the likes of which we probably won't see again, so we have to learn to appreciate sporting greatness when it's happening and not take it for granted, especially because it could end as easily as tomorrow in this sport.

Max's 19 wins, and 19/22 = 86.4% winrate records will likely stand for a couple of decades.
Schumacher's 13 wins took a decade for Seb to match.
It took another decade for Max to beat it by 2 wins, with his 15 wins in 2022.
And in an evolution of the same car, he's taken 19 wins in 2023.
We often think of records as unbeatable, not long before they're beaten. However I think these records are just so far above anything we've seen before. It will require the alignment of many unpredictable circumstances for these records to be broken any time soon.
I don’t think Max’s record will ever be broken because no top team will have a second driver as bad as Perez.

You guys did great this season
I’ve loved this channel, it book ends my watching of the gp perfectly.
I’m not sure if you are doing this already, but a points tally on the driver predictions would be ideal. It has felt a bit random without that running alongside
Matt’s segment commending Max for his achievements this season just shows the difference between a true F1 fan who loves the sport and the ‘Drive to Survive’ generation.
Haven't really been a Charles fan but I genuinely feel bad for him😂 I hope he doesn't become one of those "what if" guys when it's all said and done because of how horrific Ferraris management and strategists are.
did you watch todays race? he was the one making the decisions lol so if he doesnt do well its because of him and today he wasnt able to do just that
@@sv-bd5em You ought to watch the season, sure he makes some mistakes but overall the biggest hindrance at Ferrari is the entire team and culture there. They've been the main reason why their drivers haven't had the level of success that they should've had by now. It's 100% a culture thing too because they changed team principles and still it's the same poor decison making and mistakes. Poor management, poor strategist and even at times poor pit crew. An actual good and interesting race at Abu Dhabi, what a pleasant surprise.
I think the permutations in the standings was what made it exciting, not so much the racing itself.
The Mexico GP was more exciting Lol, there were probably more overtakes in Monaco than Abu Dhabi
It was good, but it never looked like it was going to bubble up into a crescendo.
Which race did you watch? There was good racing for most of the race.

Thanks Matt and Tommy for filling in the days between race weekends with F1 content. Its something I always look forward to. I wish I could make it to one of your live shows.
