ASCANIO ABOUT GABI PARERAS

🇬🇧 Ascanio marked a before-and-after in Gabi’s magic and consequently in his life. Gabi discovered the Master in the mid 80’s through the book “La magia de Ascanio”, published by the ‘Escuela mágica de Madrid’. Although he met him briefly in Madrid during a visit to the Spanish Society of Illusionism (during permission in his military service), it wasn’t until the national convention of Toledo (1990) that Ascanio noticed he was in front of an unique magician. Gabi competed at that Congress with Ascanio being part of the jury. The judges were puntuacting his act and Ascanio went into a rage because they didn’t think Gabi should get a first prize in close-up and couldn’t recognize a true talent. After Toledo and for the next seven years, they met many times, both at different conventions and in Madrid, where Gabi used to spend many afternoons at Ascanio’s home. They deeply admired each other and had a great intellectual connection. So, when Gabi went to Madrid to lecture in September 1994, Ascanio was very proud to introduce him, as you can notice in this video. By the way! One part of the clip is missing (I travelled with Gabi and attended that lecture), where Ascanio says that there are two types of magicians: magicians with no talent, who can be very proficient performing and learning magic, and magicians with talent, who have that “something” which make them unique. Ascanio made a pause and added: “And today you are going to see a magician with a huge talent!”
🇪🇸 Ascanio supuso un antes y un después en la magia de Gabi y por lo tanto, en su vida. Gabi descubrió al Maestro a mediados de los 80 a través del libro “La magia de Ascanio”, editado por la 'Escuela mágica de Madrid' y, aunque lo conoció brevemente en Madrid durante una visita a la Sociedad Española de Ilusionismo (durante un permiso de su servicio militar), no fue hasta el congreso nacional de Toledo (1990) que Ascanio descubrió que estaba frente a un mago único. Gabi compitió en dicho Congreso siendo Ascanio parte del jurado. Los jueces puntuaron su acto y Ascanio entró en cólera cuando decidieron que Gabi no debía obtener un primer premio en Magia de cerca y al ver que no sabían reconocer un verdadero talento. Después de Toledo y durante los siguientes siete años, se encontraron muchas veces, en diferentes congresos y en Madrid, donde Gabi solía pasar muchas tardes en casa de Ascanio. Ambos se admiraban profundamente y tenían una gran conexión intelectual, por eso, cuando Gabi fue a Madrid a dar una conferencia en septiembre de 1994, Ascanio se sintió muy orgulloso de presentarlo, como podéis ver en este vídeo. ¡Por cierto! Falta una parte de la presentación (viajé con Gabi y asistí a esa conferencia), donde Ascanio dice que hay dos tipos de magos: magos sin talento, que pueden ser muy competentes realizando y aprendiendo magia, y magos con talento, que tienen ese “algo” que los hace únicos. Ascanio hizo una pausa y agregó: “¡Y hoy vais a ver a un mago con un talento enorme!”.
