  • This is a full review of some of the top new cellular trail cameras in 2023. I was able to test these cell cams all last fall and share pictures and videos to help you decide, which one is the best for you. The three cameras I reviewed were the Spypoint Flex, Tactacam Reveal X Pro, and the Moultrie Edge. Each of the three cameras had pros and cons, and I share my honest thoughts with you. Cellular trail cameras can be an awesome tool for hunting if used properly.

Taking a roll of film to walmart to get developed to see 27 pictures of squirrels and grass swaying... lol... Thanks again!

    We want to use a cell trail cam for our rural home property boundary security against a neighbor who is trespassing. To be clear, the Moultrie Edge will send video clips or still shots thumbnails to your phone for immediate notification and you can delete if a false positive (wind blowing vegetation for example) to save storage on our account but if you want to save a video clip, you can download it to your home computer at no cost to you for use as evidence? @NextStepOutdoors  Před 11 měsíci

      I haven't tried the LM2 yet but I'd bet that if you have any cell service at all they will work. Otherwise, id probably look into one of the ones in this video or another "multi carrier" cam that flip flops back and forth to the strongest network in the area. A new one I'm looking into is Blackgate for that reason. Supposedly it connects to alllll of the network and automatically switches to whatever one is strongest at that moment.

    I think I'm going to have to try Tactacam X pro. I have 4 different properties I hint besides mine. I've used spypoints for years. Their entry level cameras have worked great. I bought 4 flexs last year and every one of them dies from 1 day to a week. I really wanted to like it and stay on the same platform, but cameras don't do any good when they die so quick.

    Nice review! I "upgraded" 2 SpyPoint Link Micros & found a few things to note. The field of view is quite a bit wider in the Flex where the Link Micro is more "zoomed-in".
    The Flex consumes batteries way quicker, even with the LIT-22 rechargeable. The video quality is not that great, but the pics, especially the preview pics are of a higher resolution.
    As mentioned most folks will need an external directional antenna as that helps save battery life, besides giving a higher quality reliable signal.
    SpyPoint has no way to limit the amount of daily pictures taken, either by an option to shut the motion sensor off or software limiting the daily amount.
    You can turn the cellular modem off, but that's with a risk of it not coming back online until a power cycle. Their cameras are very stingy on software features.
    Most of these trail cameras will be mounted on a tree with trees & branches around them & wind blowing more often than not. 🙂

    Couple of questions for you. First of all, what are all of the things you would recommend for a mock scrape because mine never seem to really take off.
    Second, where are you hunting in Michigan because I rarely see bucks like those. I assume with being an ohio hunter that you are southern Michigan focused?
    Great video and thanks for the advice on the scrape!

      Ideally, you want to start the mock scrapes in high traffic areas but I like using a grape vine. I’ve had good luck starting them with vanilla extract or synthetic forehead gland. Honestly, you probably don’t even need a scent if it’s in a good spot.

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      The tactacam one lets your request pictures remotely but no cell cam on the market allows you to livestream video just yet. Supposedly, it may be launched by the fall for several brands. In either case, any of these will notify and send you pics immediately upon catching any motion.

    Spypoint also has their $99/yr Insider Club membership ($8.25/mo) and with that, you get $0 = 250 pics $5 = 1,000 pics, $8 = Unlimited. So for me, that's a huge deal. I have some Flex-S now.. 36 MP and GPS, and on demand pics, and solar - and I can run all of them them for free with 250 pics each, all off-season year... Which really adds up with a dozen cameras in the field.

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  Před 9 měsíci

      If they are draining batteries, there's a lot of factors. 1) if it's taking a ton of pictures reduce the photo burst # and increase the delay between pictures.
      2) only transmit pics if it's a cell cam one or two times per day.
      Other than that. Running good lithium batteries makes a huge difference.

    Personally, I like the Moultrie not having an SD card. You don't have to worry about other people potentially stealing and gaining intel from your camera. It can essentially be made a brick as soon as someone takes it.

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  Před rokem +4

      That is an interesting take on it for sure. I cable lock mine when they are on any type of shared access/public so very rarely deal with stolen cameras. Still bums me out that a lot of the HD images/videos essentially disappear unless you request them in the app. One of my favorite things to do is pull the sd cards from my cell cams at the end of the season and look through an entire year's worth of intel.

      All of these cameras use cloud services, i.e., files are stored remotely. Therefore, there's a risk those services are hacked and/or the manufacturer goes rogue and sells data to the third parties, etc. But otherwise, yeah, from the technological perspective, all cameras could have password protection on the data recorded onto the memory cards as a standard feature (this way preventing data theft directly from the stolen card), but it's not in demand, apparently.

    Thanks for the reviews. I own 4 spy points. The reason I went with them is each has external power ports. I have all attached to a self-contained panel/battery pack. Now power is never an issue. Another reason is the detachable antennas. In my area of the woods here in N/W Louisiana cell service is poor at best. The stock camera antennas simply won't cut it. I use high-gain directional yagi antennas on each camera. That was a total game-changer. Now the signal is never below 90%. Yeah, it takes a little tweaking to fine-tune the direction you need. Once dialed in, You are good to geaux.

      @NextStepOutdoors  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Deer naturally use licking branches and rub their scent all over to communicate with each other. You can create one in an area you want to direct traffic too to increase the number of pictures you get, or to help you get a shot in season.

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  Před rokem +1

      SPYPOINT offers 100 free pictures a month but that’s the only “unpaid” plan out there. The rest require payment. Obviously traditional trail cams don’t require a subscription but you need to physically check the SD card.

    They are all great cameras but if anyone runs multiple cameras like I do the SpyPoint is the way to go. I run 15 to 20 cameras a year and I pay only $99 for all of them. Only downside is you only get 250 photos a month but works great for me. I don't have high traffic areas where I run mine.

  • @tonysorcinelli
    @tonysorcinelli Před 7 měsíci

    The 2 most important features in my opinion is knowing if a camera is low glow or no glow flash (840 nm vs 940nm) bc deer can see IR light. Also I’m waiting for a company to stamp every pic with the wind direction. That would be very valuable information to have attached to every pic. I don’t really care about moon phase or temperature

    • @NextStepOutdoors
      @NextStepOutdoors  Před 7 měsíci

      No glow vs low glow is important to me too. The wind direction would be super clutch. The Tactacams are now linking that data in the app based. Wind direction, pressure, etc.
