Will Max Verstappen break Vettel’s record?

  • 10 years ago as of the day this video was uploaded, Sebastian Vettel took what would be the first win in the longest F1 winning streak of all time. It ended at 9 races, a record which was surely unbreakable. However, Max Verstappen currently has 8 consecutive wins, and the Dutch Grand Prix could be his chance to equal Vettel's record. So, will the unbreakable F1 record be broken?

I don't think Verstappen will just break Vettel's record. Verstappen and Red Bull are going to break EVERY good record. That pairing is now on the level of Schumacher-Ferrari, Vettel-Red Bull, and Hamilton-Mercedes if not at a way higher level. I think it's still improbable (because Perez could have some days he's good, at least I hope so) but I'd love to see Max sweep everything rest of the year because honestly fair play to that pairing really giving their all and taking advantage of other teams still trying to play catch-up.
I'd love to be listening in to the final race of this season where Max rounds the final corner to wrap up 2023 and give Red Bull the perfect season, that's going to be history made. If there's one record that will never be broken or matched, it's probably going to be that.

It's fascinating how Hamilton now holds just about every record achieved by longevity (wins, poles, equal on championships etc) while Verstappen is beating and equaling records achieved through being a beast in a beast of a car with a well run team and the right personell through a shorter (hopefully) period in time. At this point I don't believe he won't win unless he's literally hospitalised and sedated.

I don’t think people really understand what we are witnessing this season with max. It’s history being made right before our eyes and 20-30 years down the line we’ll look back on and think; ‘holy shit max was insane that season’. It’s exactly what’s happens now when we look back at Vettle, lewis and schumys championship runs, but during the time everyone was acting the same way they are to max now. F1 fans needs to live in the moment and appreciate what’s happening instead of complaining all the time because it won’t last forever.

  • @xavierdarche4822

He's likely not only going to break Vettel's record. He is going to crush that record. I expect him to win both the Dutch and Italian GPs and not just to stop there. I would make a bet he will win all remaining races and bring the record to 18 races won in a row and with that set many other records like most points in a single season, first season a constructor won all races, and more.
The only real threat to that is reliability. But with the pace of the Verstappen in de No1 Red Bull, the team can get away with changing components more often than necessary and take a penalty. And with that make reliability problems less likely.
It might be boring watching the races when only looking at the one who will win it. But the rest of the field has good racing with some even spectacular moments. And in a few years time Verstappens dominance will be seen as something amazing.

Amazing that even with the very tricky conditions, that we haven't seen in modern-day Zandvoort before, he still managed to be so far ahead. Half a second on pole and complete dominance in the race. Not even his teammate, who had a much better pitstop-strategy, had a chance and didn't even finish on the podium. I think we are looking at the first season of 1 constructor winning every single race and the early years of the new all-time world champion record-holder (8 DWC by 2026).

Ascari didn't take part in the 500, but he did win the following two races after it, so he did win nine consecutive races run to F1's regulations, even if he didn't actually win nine races in a row.

I think Max is incredible and I hope he breaks Vettel's record.
However I really hope RB aren't this dominant next season. It's not because I find the dominance boring, I don't. I'm not a fan of any particular team or driver, I just love motorsport in all its forms and want to see good, genuine competition.
However, in my humble opinion, if RB win next years title, or tbh are even in the title fight, I think it will show how much they got away with in terms of the cost cap breach in 2021.
It's been said that the punishment would effect the 2024 season the most, so to me, they should not be allowed to get anywhere near the front. Same for any other team that cheats, it should be punished as severely as possible, no matter if it was accidental or not.
That's why, although I don't mind the dominance, I'm not hyped like I was for Lewis, Seb or Schumi. RBR in general leave a bad taste in my mouth now, even though I want Max to do well. It's soured for me and has lost much of it's meaning, which is sad because they're achieving great things, but to me, it's almost for nothing.
Personally, and I know I'm not the only one, if RBR aren't dramatically nerfed next year, I'll probably just give the next couple of seasons a miss and check back in '26. I can't stand the idea of letting one of the most well funded teams breach the cost cap by over £1million and effectively not get punished at all in any tangible way. To me, that's not what motorsports is about and it would make it 2 incidents in the in the last few years that both F1 and the FIA admit had a negative effect on results and the sport in general, and absolutely nothing has been done about them.

You seem to fail to mention how Max barely makes mistake, compare to the likes of Hamilton, Alonso, and Vettel. If he was the same level as a “typical” f1 driver, he’ll be on the same boat as Perez of having a great car, but can’t capitalize or handle it.. But fact is even with an inferior car starting 2018-2021, Max was minimizing mistake compare to other driver. Now that he has a decent car, he showed what he’s really capable of. Experts were already mentioning back then how it’s not “how” will Max dominate, It’s “when”.. They know he’s a different breed and a championship talent haven’t seen since Senna when given a good enough car. You can’t “buy” a talent and consistency. Either you have it or you don’t. Even with Mercedes rocket ship and unlimited budget during their dominant era, they made so many mistake and even Max manage to get wins during that time. Love it or hate, Max is here to stay until he breaks all the record he can break.

@Alp577 I literally said he is incredible, besides not talking about Max at all in my comment, more referencing the fact that RB development hasn't slowed down at all so far since they were punished for breaching the cost cap.
Still, Max isn't immune to mistakes, nobody is. Max looks as untouchable as all the other dominant drivers have. Vettel rarely made a mistake and Hamilton and Schumi looked robotic on their day. Max is in incredible form, but that has nothing to do with my original comment.

..another "expert" saying "Zandvoort is a track where overtaking is difficult...we just had 186 overtakes at Zandvoort Circuit - the most overtakes in the history of F1 on any Circuit - ever ! Oh, and Max won again equaling the Vettel record, and this weekend Max will break that record.

    • @JohnWarren
      @JohnWarren  Před 9 měsíci +2

The 2022 Dutch GP had 23 overtakes, only ahead of Monaco, Imola and Singapore. The 2021 Dutch GP had 24 overtakes, only ahead of Monaco, Hungary, Italy and Mexico. Statistically, Zandvoort is one of the most difficult tracks to overtake at on the calendar, and so I don’t believe the result of last week’s race (which was very heavily affected by the weather) should serve as proof that Zandvoort is an easy track to pass on.
