As someone who hasn't stopped watching ERB, I can tell you the main difference is that there are less "weak" fights (like that Sarah Palin vs Lady Gaga) and the bars, for the most part, are a lot deeper and come closer to actual battle rap in some of them - with exceptions usually because they're sticking to a character like Rambo
Glad somebody said this. I cant believe there are people in the comments saying they dropped in quality or the past few arent good. The most recent ones are some of their best ever and the lyrics + production are so much better. Rose-tinted goggles i guess
I feel like they definitely have had some more cringe lines though tbh. Not like anything like the first season or whatever. But just like after coming back I felt like the writing took a slight dip and we get a cringe line here or there.

Dang, Thanos Vs Oppenheimer is a weird comparison considering the second round was obviously lopsided. The Joker Vs Pennywise is better example considering both sides brought strong points. Also, for what it's worth, the battle of John's is a new format because they're battling and responding to two people back to back.
I think he needs to watch some of the later ones to be honest. Season 1 isn't really a good representation of where they've gotten to nowadays

For the time definitely, but as shown in the video the lyrics don't hold up as well plus their flow and writing has gotten way better. Joker vs Pennywise is elite and I know Lud has avoided watching it due to not really be interested in either character (which is totally fair)
Season 2 is so fire
Definitely need Lud to watch some of the more recent ones, ERB has just gotten better over time, both production and writing wise. There are definitely older ones that still stand out, but every one they’ve put out in the last two seasons have been consistently good.

I stopped watching ERB sometime in season 2. Glad to see the production quality has progressed and that they aren't just phoning it in. The TMNT vs Renaissance battle blew up on tik tok last year and I rewatched a handful of the old ones. While some of the aged poorly, most of them still hold up well.
The idea is just good and easy. The fact they kept the videos under 2 minutes really helped with rewatchability

@@day7163 THIS is actually false, it was taken from a quote out of context, he actually said if he could free slaves and save the union he would, if he could not free the slaves and still save union he would. Lincoln no joke was actually anti slavery from the start, you know that was his big thing when running.
He also a major reason south went to war, he was far to anti slavery to deal with. It highly likely if it was any other person, slavery most likely would not be abolished right away, since it probably make south far more aggressive and be hard deal with for years to come if it not handle slowly. Lincoln though really did not give a shit and felt it needed be done and use political speech to convince congress it was needed (which history wise is fucking impossible make congress agree on anything)
So Lincoln was always anti slavery, what I got to say though is Lincoln's original slavery removal idea was a slow but sure replacement then out right ban. This was avoid angering the south and causing a Civil war....

One thing I have to say, is that these rap battles with have a different experience with everyone, depending on their knowledge.
For example, in the "Albert Einstein VS Stephen Hawking" Notice when stephen says Brain, its spelled as P-Brane?
That isnt a typo, P-Branes are an actual thing in theoretical physics! I didnt know about this when i first heard this battle, but it does make me enjoy it more. So, yeah, your good experience with these depends on your own experience (except a few ofc)

Seeing as Lud and his mother's translation was bad: "T'as une tête à faire sauter les plaques d'égouts" means "your face would make manhole covers explode". Explanation below
In French, when you say something like "t'as une tête comme..." or "regarde la tête qu'il fait", "tête" refers to the face rather than the head, but it's more common now to use "gueule" instead.
"Sauter les plaques d'égouts" the verb "sauter" (to jump) now means "to explode".
Napoléon also says "sacré bleue" which is the equivalent of "cor blimey" because no-one uses it anymore.
Finally, Ludwig says "d'égoutes" instead of "d'égouts" (the "t" is silent unless with an e after).

Gonna keep it real- seasons 3, 4, and 5 have all of the best battles. Hawk v Gretzky, Capone v Blackbeard, Zulu v Caesar, Poe v King, Roosevelt v Churchill, etc. blow the rest out of the water. It seems like they really fell off lately, and the earlier ones weren't particularly good either. In these two videos, Ludwig has watched none of the battles that I (and the friends of mine I talked about this with) would consider putting in a top 5 or top 10. The popularity of the videos is less of a measurement of how good they are, but is instead representative of the relevancy of the characters. It's pretty sad to see ERB slowly degrade in quality, I really loved watching them in their prime while I was in high school.

luke vs harry potter was amazing and richard vs ragnar is one i didnt like until i went back and watched it recently and is now one of my favs. their last two have been decent but probably not top tier for me. i wouldnt say they're slowly degrading in quality at all. just a few misses like dracula vs vlad and the fast food one.
The johns battle was pretty good, but the newest one (Indiana Vs Lara) was mid. Tbf i had high expectations for the Indiana Jones Vs Lara Croft, but still, it wasn't a good one
The entire ERB channel is literally the most prime example of "so bad that it's good".
They put a lot of effort into their videos though, and their newer videos have deep bars in them that go beyond first layers.
I think we've just exited the age of cringe and can accept that we can like things without feeling shame for it.

Their newest seasons are really high quality, while Einstein vs Hawking has huge nostalgia factor and certainly slaps, Luke Skywalker vs Harry Potter is objectively better imo.
