  • In this video we take a look at my Savage Axis chambered in 25-06. This gun is ideal for the generally smaller whitetail deer that we have here in WV.
    The .25 caliber projectile travels at 2800 fps and shoots flat for at least 200 yds. Also the smaller bullet weight of 100 grains does not damage the meat the same as a 168 grain from a 30-06
    I do like to sight in my rifle at about one inch high at 100 yds. that way I basically eliminate the need for an elevation correction from 0-200 yds.
    In the video I show my process of ensuring the rail, rings, and scope are secure before ever firing a shot. This ensures that our ammo and time at the range will not be wasted.
    Enjoy the video. Happy hunting everyone.

    I just bought the 110 Apex hunter in 25-06. Living in Missouri where I hunt, a 300 yard shot happens, so I zero'd mine at 200 yards using the same ammo. 1.6 inches high at 100 puts me dead on at 200 yards. Great gun, more accurate than I'm capable of.

    You can save yourself the time of checking your mounts by just putting a dab of blue lock tite on the screws. Use only blue. Never have to worry from then on.

    Save up for a torque wrench and do your project well less guess work and no over torque

    A hint of advice, always get the Axis II or better for the accu-trigger. It's a world of difference. Also get a torque driver and make sure your mounts are torqued to spec.

    Been wanting to get another 25-06. Maybe an Axis. They’re fun to work on and accurate outta the box.

    A dab of red locktite on those mount screws is a must on my rifles.

    Nice rifle. Is that a factory camo and factory camo. A guy posted about a torque wrench. Why did he refer to that

    • @jackdundon2261
      @jackdundon2261 Před 2 lety

      Probably factory, my cousin had 2 or 3 axis rifles when he died, and the one I inherited was factory camouflage. BUT, I HATE it has a plastic hook that holds the magazine in. When my ruger #1 comes back from the gun Smith, I will do a comparison (maybe a video) seing how good the axis is, compared to a vintage Remington 700, and then a ruger #1. I bet the axis holds its own against rifles costing 3 or 4 times as much.

    Doesn't the barrel band affect point of aim - looking at the Axis in 25-06 as well

    • @jackdundon2261
      @jackdundon2261 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes "free floating barrels" are MUCH MORE ACCURATE. But, for over the counter ammunition, you PROBABLY can't tell the difference. When you start hand landing and adjusting "head space" and playing with different powders. NOW, that comes into play.
      My only issue with the Savage Axis, the magazine has a PLASTIC HOOK, that holds it into the gun. -- I own one, but will NEVER trust my life to it.

      What ammo are you using, what was the best ammo with best results. And what grain of ammo

      Steven Middagh On all screws both mounts and rings. I have had scopes shaken out of zero on a quad/ATV mounted rifle rack. I don't put my rifles in racks anymore either. I just carry them slung on my back.

      @@rbm6184 good idea. I use a gun boot on my quad so far so good.

    Check but i think your FPS is a lot more than 2800

    • @sandybarnett7502
      @sandybarnett7502 Před 2 lety +1

      2800 is very slow velocity for the 117 grain even with a 22 inch barrel

  • @bobparvin9773
    @bobparvin9773 Před 2 lety +2

    Looks like a strap going all the way around the barrel and the leadsled. That right there is a no-no! It fouls up the barrel whip harmonics, negates the advantages of the floating barrel. I promise you that you will shoot ALOT better groups IF you throw that STRAP away, yours truly, Bob Parvin.
