  • In this video I take my Savage Axis chambered in 25-06 to the range.
    70 yards = 1 inch group
    110 yards = 2 inch group
    200 yards = 4 inch group
    We saw velocities in the 2990 to 3010, very consistent.
    I have already purchased another Savage Axis, wood stock chambered in .223. these guns are affordable and accurate.

    I bought a Remington 700bdl in .25-06 as my first centerfire purchase back in 1971. I've had a .25-06 ever since, but only one at a time. I love the cartridge.

    My 25-06 has never let me down through the many years. It is certainly under rated.

    Good shooting. 4 more inches of barrell adds about 100 feet per second to that caliber. That's an amazing round that's been around for 100 years. Half of those as a wild cat but an 06 none the less. Sitting on a bench would tighten up that group. Great shooting for standing. That's a good shooter.

    I used to shoot my old Savage 110 .25-06 well under an inch at 100 yards with hand loads using Nosler Ballistic Tips and IMR 4350 back in the 80s. It shoots flat like a .22-250, recoils like a .243, and hits like a .270 and its why I was able to shoot that rifle all day long on the gun club range when I wasn't hunting with it. Not many long action full size rifle cartridges you can shoot all day long and not feel it eventually.

    I was shooting a Savage 116 -2506 in competition out to 500 and 600 yards was putting in some nice groups at those ranges. It will kill I shot a doe at 325 yard according to my range finder one shot kill. Many wood chuck have also fell victim out to 400 plus yards. Still own 3 2506's Savage, Mouser, Tikka

    I love the 25-06. My new favorite cartridge. I had an elk guide in New Mexico and he used a 25-06 which is how I became interested in it. I have a Mossberg Patriot with a Leupold VX Freedom 4-12x40 CDS. 4 round grouping just under 1 inch at 100 yards using Hornady Precision Hunter 110 gr ELD-X ammo. MV was 3120 - 3160 over an entire box of 20 rounds. Looking at the Axis now.

    Looks just like mine hot mine for opening day for the first time today with 117 gr interlock. Huge doe took the hit and picked it up off its feet over two feet, went no where. Was very impressed even more impressed than my 30-06 165 gr sst.

    I like 25-06, I own a few. The thing I don’t like about it is it’s so close to the performance of what you can get out of a short action and shorter barrel.
    The thing I do like about it is the nostalgia, almost ubiquity with westerns plains game/ mule deer.

    It has been fairly easy to find 117 or 120 grain based upon my experience. Not so much for other weights, but online usually solves that issue.
    Heard Ron Spomer note this could really be the next best thing with fast twist rates.

    25-06 is cool...i get tiny groups with my savage. I found out years ago whatever ammo you use...its all dead on at 100 yards....no need for adjustments. THEN, after a few years I saw an article that said just that. It drops deer like a lightning bolt i have found out. I think an all copper 100gr bullet is better/faster kill than the 115gr nosler partition. Both bullets work great.😊

    Had a browning gold medallion chambered in 25-06 with a Bushnell scope. Took a lot of deer with that tack driver. Could put a whole box of bullets in a 1 inch group at 100 yards.

    I have a savage axis 243. In mossy oak similar to this with the acutrigger and camo stock. Great lightweight rifle. I want a long action caliber like your 25-06!

  • @jagrench62
    @jagrench62 Před 9 měsíci +2

    The 25-06 is a great cartridge. The problem is that most barrels are 22 inches. Earlier guns had 26" barrel and with 4831 powder gave you magnum velocities. You are shooting a 100 grain slug at 3000 fps, slightly better than a .243 win.

    How's your hearing after the first shot? I don't have a 2506 but do have a couple of 270 's . My Uncle uses a 2506. He really likes it.

    A 25-06 with a 22 inch barrel is the stupidest idea that any gunmaker ever did. I will highly recommend a minimum barrel length of 24, and 26 is ideal 👌

    That's not hunting! That's called waiting for the Target which is the deer, to walk up to the feeder. Then you shoot the Target! Big difference!.

      It is up to each hunter to hunt up to their level of challenge while weighing the ethics. Not everyone is capable of stalking with a traditional bow they hand crafted from an Osage they fell.

      Get a proper target with an aiming point , not just a flat orange steel . Your bench is flexible and you don’t have a chair to sit on .
      Piss poor setup .

    I’ve had a 25-06 since I was 12 years old and bought my first rifle. Had one every since. 22 inch barrel is to short when your talking a magnum cartridge basically.

  • @NoTaboos
    @NoTaboos Před 3 měsíci

    The 25-06 is at its finest with the heaviest bullets; 117 or 120gr.
