Jennie suffered a heart attack at only 41 - Go Red For Women Survivor Video

  • Jennie Covert Stewart had spent Sunday afternoon at her youngest son's baseball game. Expecting company after the game, she hurried home to prepare. The symptoms began quickly. First her left arm got achy. Then she experienced severe heartburn, followed by chest pain. When she began to break out into a cold sweat she was certain she had eaten something bad. Soon after, the doorbell rang and Jennie rushed to put on dry clothing and welcome her guests. Her friend knew right away something was wrong and quizzed her on her symptoms. She insisted that Jennie was having a heart attack and that they call 911 immediately. At only 41 years of age, healthy and active, Jennie thought it was a ridiculous notion. EMS arrived and rushed her to a hospital where a cardiologist put in two stents, which saved Jennie's life. This all transpired in a mere 52 minutes after placing the 911 call.

    I had a heart attack 2 and half weeks ago on May 30th 2023 I’m 41 years old! … and I feel like I can’t quite process it all … had one stent

    The day I went in to the ER, my only symptom was unusually high blood pressure. 2 days before I had pain up my left arm and shoulder and neck. I thought it just couldn't be a heart attack. I was healthy and had a healthy lifestyle. So I went to bed and ignored it. Next morning it had gone away. But when I went in for the high blood pressure they took tests and told me I had had a heart attack. I had a hard time believing it! So after a stent and being sent home and a month later I had the same thing with the blood pressure suddenly shooting up sky high so I thought I was having another heart attack and called 911. This time it was not a heart attack but they did admit me and I ended up with another stent. I'm unsure now when or if to call 911... or how to know if what I'm feeling or experiencing is a heart attack or not.

    Women are taught from a young age to be soooo nice & polite over everything, APOLOGIZE for any little inconvenience, even if you’re having a freaking heart attack!

    • @angelag7992
      @angelag7992 Před 5 lety +5

      Laci Michelle I don't think most are taught....at least I wasn't. Yet every seizure and major health scare I had, I was tripping over the "I'm so sorry's" and the "Please forgive mes". I think for me it's just the horrible thought that you're being a burden, or too much trouble for the other person; yet if rolls were reversed I'd be smacking them upside the head for even thinking such a thing 😆. I guess for women, some just feel it's their job to take care of everything, but when it comes to themselves....well, they just don't have a clue 🤔

      And men are taught to "tough it out" and not ask for help. FAR more men die of stress, heart attack and heart disease. What's your point? Do women deserve special treatment??

    • @basia299
      @basia299 Před 5 měsíci

      I think men and women are socialized to either tough it out (men) or to take care of others first (women). In either case, it is some version of ignoring what you are experiencing in your body. I think what complicates further for women is that the "classic" symptoms we associate with a heart attack are what are typical for men. An emergency room doctor treating me for heart symptoms cautioned me to think beyond those classic symptoms and pay attention to symptoms that might be more vague, like shortness of breath, back or jaw pain, or nausea/vomiting. For example, in Jennie's case, she had pain in her right arm, not her left. I can understand why she did not think of a heart attack right away. Thankfully, the EMS professional was not deterred by that and took timely action.

    Heart attacks can happen to anyone, at any adult age rarely children), regardless of your shape, lifestyle, and diet. I had my heart attack at 39, I was a vegetarian, in good shape, went to the gym 5 days a week..... . elevated LDL cholesterol as a marker is flawed... better markers would be checking your LDL-lipo B, C- reactive protein levels, Triglycerides, and do an NMR test or Calcium score test, ...

    I had my 1st massive heart attack at 30 my right arm was tight,pain in the chest,pain in the shoulder blades, I had cold sweats, vomiting,diarrhea, I kept feeling like I needed to yawn but I couldn't properly do one & I could feel myself going grey. My whole right coronary artery was blocked. I had a 2nd heart about 19days ago at the age of 34 the symptoms were different it felt like heartburn, tight arm, jaw pain & a cold sweat. My whole left coronary artery was blocked. The thing that angered me the most both times was how hospital staff treated me. I felt like they were very dismissive towards my symptoms because of my age , it was obvious they were assuming before they put me of the monitors they thought I was just having an anxiety attack. They ignored the fact my dad died when I was 3 weeks old of a massive heart attack in his early 40's, the fact I have Factor V Leiden & a history of DVT's. I was further angered when they gave me a book about heart disease from the heart foundation, 98% of people in that book were over the age of 55. Heart attacks can strike at ANY age!

      @@oliviamoore3426 Thank you :) I hope you don't have anymore heart attacks either :) My hospital experiences have been awful, they seem to think heart attacks only happen to older people. If I did have another heart attack, I'd certainly live stream it to show the world how horrible it is for younger people with CVD. I think I could do that, I mean I was able to pack a bag of clothes & catch the bus to the hospital during my 2nd heart attack. After you have 1 heart attack you learn the signs & you got more time to get to the hospital :) When I got out of hospital I bought travel size toiletries, phone charger & a bag packed with clothes in space bags so I feel more prepared, it's a good thing to do if you're single like me.

      I'm entitled to my own opinion...but I'll explain it again slowly for you.
      More men die from heart attacks then women. No one cares or declares a "special" color for them.
      They convinced men to wear pink "for breast caner awareness"- what do women do for men and prostate cancer??- Which BTW - kills FAR more people than breast cancer. The list is practically endless.
      She had what I consider a relatively MINOR issue.How is she a "survivor"?? LOL. I came back from the dead, and I don't even call myself a survivor.
