- Watch me get a terrible start on the XR and work from 9th to 2nd on the first lap. The race was 3 laps totaling 1 hour 36 minutes. I laid her down on lap 2 and Brian passed me back. I ended up 3rd in 30+ and 19th Overall out of 97.

I'm 42 now, and, after ALL these years, there's still nothing like the sound of an XR!
TT600 ;)
my last one was a 01 XR650R, It was a great bike. Uncorked it and used stock exhaust except for the drilled out spark arrestor. It was very underrated by the motocross only crowd. it was faster than a lot of two stroke guys were prepared for. Never lost a race to my buddies one on an RM250 and the other on a KX250. I wished I still rode but i'm 60 with a questionable knee now. I can't risk racing any longer, gotta finish building up that retirement.
@@TheBlueDogMan im 60 also I too had an 01 650r I put the white bros pipe and carb kit also that thing ripped sooo much fun I miss it. Gotta love those older xrs Ive owned 2, 350r s a 500cr and 500 xr and a 600xr im now on a 525 ktm dual sport a honda 650l and my race bike 2 stroke husky te300
You are the embodiment of the privateer life. The statement “buy a bike and start racing” rings true for you. God bless and keep spanking the brand new bikes!

Well that just doubled the value of every XR600 on the market!... Fantastic work, well done :-)
wondered why they where getting so expensive
The biggest thing I notice about your riding is how smooth you are. You don't make a lot of mistakes and the bike always seems perfectly happy with the pace. Never sounds like you're revving out the engine a ton or bogging it down.
I like how he can speak so calmly when he is whipping that mass of metal through the trees. That bike has to be 70lbs heavier than a 250f Husky
@Honda Havoc I bog down my 650L occasionally. Just comes from inexperience and lack of technique using the power. Jacob here has a "few" years more experience and a boatload more talent than I do lol.
That's the XR. They pull like a mule, the suspension is perfect for that type of riding, there's so much mass it can't ricochet off everything. Point it and that's where it goes. This guy has skills as well. Together it's a perfect mesh. He'd be awesome on a XC two stroke. It'd bounce a lot more though.
Staying in the meat of your power curve....
In my opinion that means you aint going fast enough man
I do miss the sound of those big air cooled 600's. Brings back good memories
It reminds me of being sat on the tank of my dads as a kid back in the day holding the crossbar as he popped wheelies. Very good times.
Jo Ski Hell yeh ! I remember all those rides.
Bryan Smith I’m picking up an 87’ XL 600 this summer, I can’t wait. I used to ride 2 strokes but I’m ready to do some backroads on the big Honda
Oh yeah, really makes me miss my late 80’s XT600..... thing would climb a tree if I could hang on Long enough.
Yes! "If you ask me what kind of tire...you're a dork" So true. I get annoyed by all the discussions on tire choice. Not flat is my choice.
I mean yes, but if you want to ride on a competitive level you have to look into that, too.
I love knobs, but its fun to ride dirt without them sometimes so I really get my money's worth outta the tires. I dont race though...
Just not as big of a deal as folks like to make it out to be, in my opinion . I am not a competitive rider, but I ride all types of terrain. A knobby tire with air/bib in it will take you lots of places, fast. I'm not a 'small talk' guy and tire choice is one of the first subjects to come up when the small talk ensues. 😂
@@drstogdill Well I am German we don't do small talk. I think we are on the same page here. I am an absolute amateur, but I did get to compare a proper sandtire and a normal hard pack knobby on a sand track and even I felt the difference.
But that said, a skilled dude could whip my ass on any old crap bike with bald tires.
I died when he said this, only necessary on street vehicles really😂👏
Big torque monster. Man I love XR’s!
"If u ask me what kinda tire ur a dork! Their either flat or not flat or bald or not bald" 😂 luv it!
Great video and great riding! I love it! I love how you told them "this is one bad bitch, I don't care what you say!" Back in 1996-2000 I had a 1986 XR600R that was bored out, had an aftermarket piston that was higher compression, it was rejetted and it had a Super Trap exhaust, it was extremely fast! At that time I lived in Tucson Arizona, that motorcycle was well suited for the desert! I called my motorcycle"Clementine." Hahaha! Thanks for sharing the great video!
Love it , reminds me of when I was 14 and had an old 1978 DT 175 (couldn't afford a real Mx bike) it was 17 year old and my friends had Kawasaki KX 80 and honda cr 80 and not one of them could touch me round the local practice track , I even snapped the frame and bent the forks jumping the old girl , good days I miss that old bike 🤗☺️😊😪
Fantastic mate 👍 hope you're still riding
......✊😁👊......
Just started the bigbore upgrade on my 1980 DT125 to 175, I love that little thing theyre super stout bikes.
77 dt 250 bought it for $400 in 1994 when I was 14. I rode the shit out of it for like 5 or 6 years then sold it for $400
Lol I love it. Tractoring along out there at 1/3 the rpm of the other bikes. Just reeling them in.
This definitely inspires me to get my 85' XR600 out and finish rebuilding it. Love to see other people enjoying themselves on these old thumpers. Great riding, smooth through the trees and quick reaction time.
Don't forget that little oil pipe!
Im a 60 year old has been, i had to give it up by 50' Just wore everything out from the the 70's model bikes.
It felt like i was right there with many of the same moves, Thanks for the awesome flash back! PS your an animal!
as a former b open, a 250, a open and then senior a rider, now 70 i watch your videos......and love em
You are a celebrity on that thing
I hate when you wipe the lens when I am trying to avoid hitting a tree.
I know, so inconsiderate.
Ha ha
Apparently I was very immersed in the race because I caught myself moving my head to keep an eye on the trees for him when he wiped the lens.
Thanks dude!!! That comment gave me a good laugh 😆 HAHA 🤣 HAHA
Lmao I thought I was the only one who dose that 😂
As a 600 DR suzuki owner and former MX rider( 250YZ), I felt the stress of your kick start when you started the race !!!! Great job Man!!!
And thank's for sharing your video!!
Richard from France👍😎🇫🇷🏁
Dude I love your style. I'm so sick of equipment snobs all over the internet trying to convince us we need all the newest highest quality stuff. A tire is a tire, a bike is a bike. Use what ya got.
A real fourstroke!!! God i miss that sound. Absolutely flying and it sounds like you out on a sunday ride. Not like the new so called fourstrokes (2 stroke wana be) that turn 14000 rpm. Use to race the original xr500 twin shock. Beautiful bike. Beautiful ride
Excelente piloto y Moto amor eterno para xr600 R🇦🇷❤✌
You f ing rock !!.
Watching you kick ass on this bike of ancient design is well f ing incredible!.
Your abilities in the tight woods sections blow me away.
Keep up the great vids.
Amazing. All on a heavy 600R. Very impressed. I was bumped to B many years back but now in 40’s racing the long races is getting tough. Riding one of Doug Henry’s two strokes that we converted to a woods beasts.
Fantastic, really enjoyed that mate. Was awesome to see the iconic Thumpersaurus Maximus in action, brough back great memories. Loved the commentary too 👏👏 😂 Thank you and cheers from Australia 👍
At 27 I thought I was in great shape, until I tried a new sport hare scrambles... omg was I wrong. These FLA sand whoop courses absolutely kick your but! But I still love it and miss it. At 57 I don’t think I would do it again....
great ride Jacob, you wear us all out just leaning, breaking and feeling every bump on the trail!
Great. Video!
When ability conquered adversity 👏👏👌 I'm exhausted just watching 😞 Respect 🤙🏴
Those ol XRs steer so well in the tight stuff, Nice smooth ridin Too Young fella.
That bike sounds like a growling lion!! Impressive skills out there!
@@fastguysslowbikes subbed!
@@fastguysslowbikes pls get a new gopro
Thank you for a fantastic ride. I was there with you the entire ride! Mad skills you have.
I've got myself an XR400R and the thing's a beast.. love the older Honda's
I've had both, but although its a big old boat, the xr600 has that big comfy seat..And its just a blast to goof around on.Needs a good fork tuning I think, for deep sand whoops.Definitely miss that motorcycle.
I miss my XR400. Comfy and dependable
Love the sound, had a Honda 350x setup for cross country, built engine, sounded same, wish I had helmet cam back in the day, lots of great memories
Xr's 4 ever!! Hey all you X-R riders do you ever tell your competition it's got a hemi engine in it! That's how Honda described the combustion chamber back in the 80's when the RFVC engines came out!
Well Jacob, not sure if you read replies. But after watching your vids for the last year or so you inspired me to want to ride again. I'm 47 and haven't ridden in 15 or so years. After looking for an xr 250 or 400 for months and not finding anything clean. I found a nice 06 crf 450x and brought it home today. What a leap 4 strokes have made. It's fun and plenty of power but not like the old xr's I grew up loving.
Thanks for inspiring me to ride again. Now I have to find my grandson a 50 and get him started.
Love your vids, keep them coming man.
Love the XR Content you kick ass on that bike and in the Sand too Nice Job.
I had an XR600R with SuperTrapp on it, I appreciate how difficult it is to ride such a beast with finesse between those trees and on soft loamy stuff without washing out. Truly amazing ride bro. For the record there were at least 5 times I crashed on your video! thanks for sharing!
That’s a real mans bike! You handled it like a pro, what a knarly but cool track 🤘🤘
After that bad start I was so intense with you on catching the pack I actually ducked my head a few times under those low hangers LOL...great videos man, keep it up
That big 600 jug was barely idling the whole race, on the other side, you can hear the 2 smokes redlining, lol.
Equinos al Volante Costa Rica well that’s where the 2 strokes make all there power in the higher rpm
@@gamer2350 and that's what I'm mocking them about, lol.
Why mock them 9/10 bikes ridden by top cross country bikes are 2t
@@thomaswebby2431 with 2 smokes are not good for anything else aside from competition. You could take that big 600 out the track to head home 100s of miles, without worrying about rebuilding the top end and doing almost as often as filling the tank.
@@someone46018 that's because they are not built to do that, pretty sure a big bore 2 stroke can be ridden like that 600 and last long, fuel economy isn't a thing for cranckase inducted 2 strokes
This sport requires 2 balls and you showed them gracefully.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤛✊☝️
The 6 hundo may be heavy and clunky, possibly hard to start sometimes but I wouldn't trade it for anything out there. Nice ride buddy !
Just past TDC, steady even push of the kickstart,no throttle.
@@scottcrowley2061 mine likes a little throttle on cold starts, but im running it a bit lean for gas milage.
Another great ride on the 600, what a walk down memory lane that was so thanks alot. I've had two XR600R's a '90 & '98, now have a XR650R and a CR500. Did two seasons of hare and hounds on the 600 in north Wales in '03 & '04, only air cooled bike there and got a few top 10 finishes. Good times!
The 600 is lighter and more nimble than my 650R which is now set up for adventure so heavy af! Must get another 600 one day, first one I had in the 90's had a big finned and ported head with huge headers and supertrapp. It was a grunter!
Greetings from a XR600R rider from Portugal. Gas!!!!!
Awesome man,its the rider not so much the bike 👊🏽
Dude, props to you and that XR6. I have one my self and wouldn’t give it up for anything. Electric start machines belong on the road. Keep enjoying the ride🤙🏽
The XR600 tractor is a heavy old girl and a handful in single track sand. You make it look easy. I love the lazy power of my XR600. Keep putting those new bikes in there place with the the old dinosaur. 👍🇦🇺
Terrifying video. I was on the edge of my seat, grabbing it the whole time without me noticing it. Awesome stuff.
Thanks for the ride , you rewound my clock some 35yrs when i raced harescrambles in south florida , west palm , river ranch etc , always loved those xr's , nice riding .
That tempurpedic seat gives an extra 2" of travel in the rear. Jaja
anybody who can wrestle a big heavy pig like an xr600 that fast through a tightass course like this one is one hell of a rider.....
The old big bore XRs are very capable bikes... very reliable, gobs of torque, and comfortable suspension. With practice they can be tossed around pretty well for their size. I had a 1984 XR500R for over 10 years and it was one of the best bikes I ever owned. Great video, thanks.
XR 600 life long legend!
That was insane it was like I was riding through the trees I was leaning with you 👍
The ol tractor just reels em in...love it
1991 was the first year for these gems, and getting harder to find! I owned a 1992 xr600r and loved it
I loved my 600R, and the soothing sound they make. I got warn out watching this. Forearms are burning!
Great job
Brings back some memories. I'm a former FTR Hare Scrambles Chairman and Master A rider. Left FL in 2008 and moved up to the Mtns of NE TN. Just back road riding now on a 83 XR600L
That course looks like fun
Impressive! Sounds like you’re wrestling an alligator...probably feels like it too! Talking while riding helps you forget the pain while you gain! I’ve got a 99 WR 400 with kick only. It has an after market compression release cam which makes starting a no brainer. No having to find tdc. Just kick anytime, anyplace. Wouldnt trade it for anything...well maybe a new 2020 WR 450 if someone offered. I regularly pass the young guys on the knarly, rocky trails up here in north eastern Ontario Canada. By young I mean guys in their late thirty’s and early forty’s as I’m in my sixty’s. You’re going to drive up the prices of those old XR 600’s with that kind of riding performance! Wow! I would just be putting some massage therapists kids through college if I owned that XR.
Modern Scott Summers! I raced the same bikes for years in MX, HS and GNCC and everyone called it a lawnmower! Smooth and steady won that bike many races! Great Job!
EN EL CIRCUITO LA MEJOR SIEMPRE FUE LA XR-600R!👏👏💪💪✌🇦🇷🇦🇷
To me this is still your best video. Amazing riding and great view.
Regarding tires, "don't ask or you're a dork. They're either flat or not flat, bald or not bald". I love these words.
4:39 "Go get 'em brother!!" never gets old
Bro this is an epic race...good job man
Great riding
Great endiro course
Geat video
Xr600 🏴👍
Thanks for the ride, enjoyed every minute. What an epic ride well done man. Congrats from the land down under. Dougie. :)
Thanks for such a great video Fast Guy. You had me weighting my outside peg, looking through corners, trying to see through dust and shadows and remembering how much fun it was to roost the guys on bikes way more suited to the tight stuff than my big XR. I haven't been racing for a few years now due to a chronic case of tendonitis (Tennis Elbow) of the go fast arm. Hey, I am 56 and probably past my "best by" date anyway. I loved the video!
Rally I watch whole dam thing and there’s no end!!!
Been watching all your videos with your XR600R, love em! I was looking for a bike and came across a super clean 96, I wasn't even familiar with them but fell in love immediately and had to have it after doing a bunch of research. I've had it several months now and taken it out damn near every weekend and I just love these bikes so much.
That’s so badass that you can go out there on a little older bike and still kick so much ass👍
the most impressive thing I noticed is how loud you can whistle !
I raced years ago and bought a crew 600 and loved it. Scott summers was a super fast pro and I rode his bike once he rode mine. The only issue I had was starting it especially at the start and after a crash. I came back several times to place on podium. This brings back some great memories running the mid south harescrambles series. Keep it rolling and have fun!!!!
Excellent riding excellent bike - keep the XR spirit alive! I had a’84 BRP many years, now have an ‘84 LRP 200R for woods bike.
Big respect fella that was a seriously impressive ride well done.
i feel like im fishing watching this video !! just keeps reeling em in!!!
Great video, I used to have one of these bikes, never had the skills of this lad though, easy work for the old thumper, no stress on the engine whereas the newer bikes struggle when the going gets hard.
Gotta love the sound of the old thumpers! Such a blast to ride.
Wow that was fun! You are such a smooth rider on that big old thumper!! :)
You certainly know how to maneuver that XR! I just picked up an 85 XL600R and it's a beast of a bike very heavy... I cannot toss it around like you can lol, cheers man keep up the good videos, you've gained a subscriber!
Nice ride man! I'm pretty sure I've done this race a couple times on a quad back in the early 2000s. Done the whole FTR season a few times. Great fun and great people! Some of the best times in my life!
It's not the bike, it's the guy riding it... You're a bad man on thing my friend!
you're awesome man! cheers from Italy brother
That front end tracked well over any line you took. Excellent riding and video!
All props to you. It takes serious skills to make an XR600 look nimble.
That XR sound is like ASMR! Love your don't give a RIP & let 'er RIP attitude! It would be unfair if it had electric start! Ha!
Man you can ride now I've been crazy but you getting close to them trees n just chilling speaking no nervous voice
Wow! SMOOTH through the tight-n-twisty’s on the huge bore!
I always enjoy a good dont judge a book by its covers!!
Great video!!
Whoever thumbed this down never rode an xr600. Had one for years and those bikes take a lot out of you to muscle them around like that. Especially how tight a lot of that course was. Great ride.
Fine riding, fine bike. That was awesome.
Beautiful bikes. I loved my old xr's
Had same situation in 1992 with 92' xr600 could get started started dead last finished 2nd overall in a Grandprix
The bad start made for a very entertaining vid. Great talent. Great work!
That's a baja/desert bike if there ever was one. That engine was pretty much loafing along. Good ride nicely done. Thanks for vid.
Great to watch. That XR never seemed to rev much past tickover beautiful😎
I loved your attitude. Its a new tyre nuff said! As a UK rider retired due to medical issues I miss bikes. 2t or 4t , new or old, recreational or racing makes no difference. Have fun with what you have. I do smile seeing fast a **** rider on an old or tatty bike pass the "all the gear no idea" pit guys. Keep riding, stay safe. Great vid! 👍
I had a XR500 new back in 1983, loved that old thumper.
Great video, good to see that XR in competition. I rode a desert race prepped XR600 many years ago that could do everything.... including the 50 minutes on street to Carnegie in northern CA for nice hill climbs. Incredible bikes.
XD, all those compression release kicks had me laughing hard
Such an awesome bike!!! Good job!
I fuckin love it😂 You're a legend man. That ole' big bore is still kicking ass.
Great riding and video, thank you!
