Phil Foden, in the number 10 role, allows him to utilise his creativity and vision to unlock defences.
Jude Bellingham, given the freedom to roam from central midfield, can drive forward, link up play, and contribute both offensively and defensively.
Declan Rice anchoring the midfield provides the necessary stability and defensive cover, allowing the other two to express themselves more freely.
This setup could provide a great balance between defensive solidity and attacking flair, making it difficult for opponents to deal with the midfield trio.
If executed well, it has the potential to dominate possession, create numerous scoring opportunities, and maintain control of the game.

But considering all the factors it’s so misleading. The euro cup run was a joke. At home every game against poor opposition. That Germany team was horrible. The Denmark game was not worthy of a semifinal and the way it went was very lucky for you. The 2018 run was also incredibly easy for a World Cup. Scraped past a bad Colombia and lost to Croatia who of course were good. But were far from world class which is why they got dispatched with ease by France in the final. In every tournament England falls at the first hurdle or a REAL contender.

So that only leaves the Left and no.10. Jude Bellingham has done more in a England shirt than Foden ever has done. Jude also had a better club season and isn't tried and tested on wings as much as Foden is. So yeah, it's either bench Foden or throw him on the left.

Southgate has top class and world class players across the pitch. Pickford has been solid at England, he's solid at Everton, he would be a golden glove keeper at a bigger side. (i think he's a prick, but he's a decent keeper)
The defence is probably the weakest area and it is still pretty stacked. Walker, Stones, Shaw (when fit), Trippier... all capable of being top quality
Rice, on the brink of world class. Bellingham is world class, Mainoo has huge potential, Trent can ping worldie crosses and shots.
Saka and Foden, outstanding, hitting world class figures.
Kane, one of the best strikers of the recent era...
Watkins capable of greatness, Palmer could be special.
The problem is Southgate is a nervous manager. He played at Palace, Villa and Middlesborough and they were all okay teams, won a couple cups. But the aim more often than not was "lets keep it tight, we don't want to lose today" especially against anyone at the top of the league
Now as a manager he wants to keep it tight, try not to lose, maybe nick a penalty. 21 of Kanes 63 goals are penalties. Sure we batter Andorra or Iran or Malta or San Marino... but Belgium, Croatia, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil. Anyone of any stature and ability he has a dreadful record.
He doesn't seem to have any plan b. Winger comes off, winger comes on. CDM comes off, CDM comes on. No switching from 4-2-3-1 to a 3-4-3 or whatever. We have so much attacking talent and yet we have 7 players on the pitch focused on not conceding more than scoring. The players we have we could do damage with 4-1-3-2. One CDM with two wingers a free roaming Bellingham and two actual strikers up top. Kane and Watkins.
Quarter or semis at best is my guess.

"Argentina, half their backline had never been to an international tournament before" Could not be more wrong. Literally every defender they used in the tournament had been to at least 1 if not multiple international tournaments.
To single out Romero as not having been to an international tournament also ridiculous considering he was in the team of the tournament for the copa america the year before the WC.

watching Germany tonight, against a stolid Scottish team, Nagelsman had them playing top class football. I worry that Southgate lacks the creativity as a coach to utilise the players he has in the team in this way. Hope I'm wrong. Good talk lads. I'd play against most teams Foden/Bellingham as 8s around Rice. Gordon left. Saka right. Kane uptop. I'd then later in the tournament against a France or a Germany load the midfield, and I'd sacrifice the player, between Saka/Gordon, possibly Foden if he isn't setting the tourney alight. I'm not sure who I'd put in. Probably Gallagher due to his extra maturity over Warton/Mainoo

England’s defence is very gettable and if a team with robust defence prevents Kane, Foden, saka from breaking the lines England could be in trouble. No doubt the quality is there, only place it lacks is the coach

The fact that everyone say Bellingham has to start over Foden is crazy. Foden (who played on the right a lot by the way) 29 Goals & Assists, Bellingham who played as a 10 and even as a false 9 all season 26 Goals and assists and that was in an easier league too. FACTS

Someone please tell me how Guehi has magically got ahead of Konya. Hasn’t played a minute for Palace in their resurgence under Glasner. Konsa has played week in week out for a team that got UCL. And has the versatility of being comfortable covering the wider areas having played a lot of minutes at RB. Where’s this Guehi hype come from?

England are a decent side and that's about it. They have a major problem on the left, Rashford didn't deserve to go but leaving him back home means Gordon is the only threat in behind and isn't used to the pressure of international football. Foden will end up playing there and it's not his best position, he also needs a good tournament. Left back is even worse because Trippier is not playing on his natural side and hasn't had the best season. Do they have a centre back partnership they can trust? Is Rice going to be disciplined enough to stay in position for 90 mins and let everyone else play? Will Kane stop dropping deep to feel involved and stay in the box? England have talents but not a clear system on how they need to be utilized together. Quarters/semi written all over it. At least Southgate will finally leave.
