I appreciate this video as a learner, seeing someone know 5 other languages (4 of which are pretty similar) go out and very successfully learn Mandarin is really inspiring. Also, it felt super validating hearing him say that he thinks speaking is the hardest part, because whenever a friend or family member asks me what I think about learning Mandarin, I always say that speaking is the hardest too, since I'm not used to speaking with tones. Super good video, thanks guys!

For me, writing by hand is the hardest (I gave up since nowadays everybody uses a keyboard anyway). After that, it is reading, because there are so many characters to learn. I know about 1700 characters/2600 words and I am still far away from reading fluently any native book. Patience is the key. 耐心是成功的基本
