These family issues are the same the world over. The younger generations in a rapidly changing society are reacting to it naturally, being very cautious and enjoying early life, too, before marriage, if any. I have great respect for the elderly who are understanding of the stresses on younger generations which come from large and continuing changes in society. I understand that it is hard to accept by some very loving parents, though. Seeing children live so different can be quite alarming.

As someone who speaks English as a native language: if you asked me when I was a young teenager I probably would have picked German or Mandarin. Now I have been learning German for almost two years and it actually isn't that hard. I had some pronunciation issues at the beginning with especially ö and ü, which I couldn't for the life of me get even half right at the beginning, but now I would like to believe that I can pronounce it right 80% of the time (I hope lol). Now I am looking contemplatively at Mandarin, because while it could be more challenging in that I need to learn a whole new writing script and I am not entirely sure my mouth can do any tones even half correctly, I also had many doubts when it came to German and while I am no master at German, I have done so much better than I ever thought I could. So here I am on the first video I have ever watched of Easy Mandarin and I hope that in another two years I will be able to hold some degree of conversation in Mandarin as long as I stick with it. After all, German proved that even I can learn a language, despite being convinced before that that my brain was not built for language learning. Thank you for the video! I found it super interesting, and also kinda funny how many people said German haha. Deutsch ist aber nicht so schwierig, meiner Meinung nach.

I learned Mandarin from a teacher from Beijing, but shortly after, I was exposed to TV shows from Taiwan. My Mandarin became a little mixed, and my Mandarin teacher would often tell me that I'm using a word from Taiwan.

My main pronunciation issue isn’t so much sounds, but tones. Specifically when to use a different tone for 一 or when to convert third tones to second tones if there’s an uneven number of them back to back.

Traditional Chinese vs. Simplified Chinese is kind of like a slightly exaggerated version of British vs. American spelling. For example (with British on the left and American on the right): "Colour"="Color" "Honour"="Honor" "Realise"="Realize" "Criticise"="Criticize" "Metre"="Meter" "Litre"="Liter" "Draught"="Draft" Almost all of these have definite patterns involved and are easily recognizable despite spelling differences, with the exception of "draught" which I'm honestly not sure is still in use in England (I've seen it in works like J.R.R. Tolkien's from the mid 1900s). Similarly, Traditional characters that are unrecognizable to Simplified character users (or the reverse) are the exception, not the rule.

I feel like Taiwanese sounds are a bit stronger and heavier based on this video. It's like strong black coffee (Taiwanese) vs lighter version (Mandarin) - this is just for the sake of comparison in terms of the sound, no offense.

At 5:39 I could not find Xiè luō in a Mandarin dictionary. I discovered that traditional (not simplified) characters are used in the video. All I know is that Xiè means "to thank".
