1. Big Bang has 5 members: GD (leader with red hair), TOP (he was the cowboy), Taeyang (he had the pink hair), Daesung (he had the hair covering his eyes), and Seugri (he had white hair and came out of the ground near the beginning)
2. Big Bang debuted in 2006, they've been around for about 12 years.
3. They're not the originators of kpop by any means, Big Bang is called 2nd generation Kpop, while BTS, iKon, and Blackpink are 3rd generation. There are way more groups that were famous before Big Bang, like TVXQ and Seo Taiji and the Boys. But they are the Kings because, for their time, they had the most global impact and influence. Them and their music revolutionized some things in kpop, such as helping increase the number of idol groups who actually became involved in songwriting and fashion, etc.
4. Big Bang is very diverse. This EDM sound isn't really what made them popular. I think in Korea, their ballads or slower songs are more well known, and I like those best too. All their songs are great though.
5. You have to see them live! Please watch Big Bang's 2015 MAMA Performance, they do 3 songs and it's amazing.

TVSQ was popular, but nothing compared to Big Bang, who have been known as the Kings of Kpop for many many years now,. Also, Big Bang, as a group and as individuals hit mile stones that other Kpop groups can't even compare to -- world wide, Big Bang concerts have broke records and in Asia they are superstars beyond compare.
I really like TVSQ btw, but they couldn't maintain their group/fame [they started out with 5, and I think ?? they are down to 2 now] and didn't get the hits year after year like Big Bang as a group, or as solo artists have done for so many years.
I also think that Shinhwa (debut in 1998) ranks a bit higher than TVSQ (debut in 2003) since they are still a complete group, had some nice hits, and are still promoting as a complete group even after having gone through the military and they are even much older than Big Bang (their
debuted was in 2006)
It don't work that way. Once a group or personality gets tagged with the term 'King(s) of.... no one else takes that title. It's like Elvis, is the King of Rock and Roll. When Michael Jackson came along...he wasn't called the King of Rock and Roll (that title was taken)... He was called the King of Pop... James Brown, The King of Soul. Benny Goodman, The King of Swing. Roy Acuff, The King of Country.
Other honorific titles like Aretha Franklin, "Queen of Soul" or Chuck Berry, 'The Father of Rock and Roll' or David Bowie "The King of Glam Rock"
The thing is.. you don't steal a title from a great that has come before you in the music industry. If one is good enough they get, or invent their own title. Notice that David Bowie, had King of Glam Rock, not the King of Rock and Roll.
BTS fans need to figure out what to call BTS... Because they are not The Kings of Kpop.. Big Bang will forever be that...they are the ones who made the Huge and Long Term splash in their field and deserve that title.

Small bit if info, when bbb was released, a few people were uncomfortable with the chained scene. They clarified that they were chained to each other and the girl dancing is parris goebel, the choreographer (new zealand).
Thanks for saying that - I was just going to write the same thing (as I saw some uncomfortable expressions on the reactors' faces during that bit). Let'd add to that the fact that Parris either thought of that particular bit (as she did the BBB choreo), or she was completely fine with it - as anyone who follows her on fb on insta knows she's not a type to do what she wouldn't feel comfortable with. (^_^)

Who ever been in kpop cannot deny that big bang is legendary and king of kpop. They have been already 11 years and they are still on top. I think because they produced their own music especially by the leader, Gdragon. They are most successful boy group of all time. They always produce great songs. Each of them are doing solos too. Gdragon and taeyang especially are such successful solo artists. BTS also said that big bang is their role model and used to fanboy them.

Big Bang is KING indeed! It consists of 5 members, leader G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, T.O.P and Seungri. All of them have solo stuff too as well as duet projects like GDYB and GD & TOP. Funfact, BTS once said they wanted to be like Big Bang (during their debut era) and Jungkook of BTS looks up to Bigbang's GD, stating that the man's one of the reasons why he wanted to pursue music. So in a way, without Bigbang, we may not have Jungkook in BTS. BIGBANG is what we call idols of idols. And BTS is slowly becoming that as well, following their senior's footsteps, just like what they wished back then.

BIGBANG are incredibly versatile with their music, their recent MADE album covers a pretty large spectrum I recommend giving that an album listen/review and also the leader GDragon dropped an album recently called Kwon Ji Yong that has a lot of trap, hip hop influence so I think you guys would enjoy that!

The reason these dudes are called the "KINGS" is because they have been in the game since 2006 and unlike other groups they keep getting more popular and spread to more age groups and countries despite all the scandals they've faced. They changed the way the kpop industry was run because they were the first group to write their own music, they were the first group to popularize the elements of hiphop in kpop, and they are the ONLY group where every single member has an incredibly successful solo career. I hope that you guys later on react to their more meaningful songs like Bad boy, loser (find a version with subtitles) and some songs by their members, especially G-Dragon and Taeyang

I'm super late to the party but what's super crazy about BB is how they managed to accomplish so much and attained so much success on a global scale going on 13 years even before the kind of social media we have now. All they really had was CZcams and it was still new to Korea and the Kpop industry. This is a group that made their debut in 2006 but Korean and Kpop youtube channels didn't start becoming a thing until 2013-ish. Group/Company channels started being created around 2010 and even then it was barely made proper use of. They lacked all of the benefits current-gen groups did and yet they broke so many records and their achievements are insurmountable. They were at the forefront of the Korean wave and were the pinnacle of an entire genre. They were the first idol group to truly grasp the concept and execute the perfect hip-hop idol group back when the odds were stacked against them and everyone found it laughable. They were never afraid to experiment with their sound, write and compose their own music, prioritize high fashion and even the stylized way they did their music videos that has become such a norm in Kpop now. And it was thanks to them that their company is considered one of the best in the industry because they never stopped pushing boundaries and influenced and inspired so many of the current-gen idols. That's what makes them so special, they're true kings of their craft and considered one of the most legendary idols because of everything they've done for Kpop and these newer groups that we love so much.
