  • 2012 Mercedes ML350 review featuring a 4Matic AWD model. This particular Mercedes ML350 has done nearly 150k miles, and I will see how well it has aged. The 2012 Mercedes ML350 Class got redesigned for the third generation. See my 2015 S550 Review: • 2015 Mercedes S550 Rev...
    The Mercedes ML-Class is one of the top-selling Mercedes Benz models. Mercedes was selling between 30,000-35,000 units annually so this was not a vehicle they could afford to mess up. The 2012 ML350 was put in a wind tunnel and tested to the highest level to assure buyers that this would be the highest quality of the ML possible for the time.

    i hate the lexus fanboys on youtube that cant afford anything over 10k without having a panick attack , just repeating the classic lines to justify staying with an old LS all their lives, "hehe maintenance cost" "hehe always at the garage" "hehe always breaking down" like they cant fathom someone beeing able to afford a warranty and drive something more exciting and with more personality than a grandpa or soccer mom car. yes lexus is a FANTASTIC car and a great brand, I own an ls430... but lexus is not the only good luxury car maker, especially not in the last decade. if you're pinching your pennies and want the best value with the least maintenance sub 10k sure get a lexus thats what I did as my first car, but as im looking to upgrade im gonna go into audi s5 or bmw 435i territory, might look at an 2014 sclass too... i wanna LOVE my car, not just love it because its "reliable".

    I must say this video has bolstered my confidence! I’ve recently purchased (recently meaning last Saturday, 8/8/20) the same vehicle - a 2012 Ml350 4MATIC in Iridium Silver Metalic. Mine has 96.5K AND I’M IN LOVE! No creeks, no rattles, floats through the city, and when I need to get after it... She gets after it! I’ve owned a 2008 BMW X5 which was a nightmare; but I love German cars so I took a chance here! So far, no buyers remorse! Mine also came with a 100 day/4,000 mile warranty and I’m certain I’ll grab another when that one’s up! But 2 mechanics thus far have said I found a gem! Everything works, it’s aged beautifully, and still has all the power of her youth! I plan on keeping this car until my kids are in college, at least. So your 150K mile review just gave me all the confidence that I can stand by that promise! Keep up the good work brother! And the sound system is banging!!! The best or nothing... For Sure!!!

    Enjoying these high mileage reviews. It goes to show that with proper maintenance and being PROACTIVE you can have a car that lasts the test of time. While I agree with Lexus vehicles being more reliable overall they still need maintenance and that still costs money. All things considered If you were to compare the repair bills from an RX350 with 150k to this MB with 150k there wouldn't be much of a difference especially since this one has the standard steel suspension.

      Lexus is marginally better. From my experience, my rx350 has had Electrical glitches, dead alternator, high pressure oil tube failure all around 150k. Where you're wrong is cost. My Lexus still has a Toyota engine. The switchgear is literally all Toyota. Also lots more after market options. Mercedes OEM and aftermarket parts costs significantly more. Who cares about suspension, other components all cost more. New rotors and brakes cost 2x as much as a Lexus.

    Hey man, I commented on the last vid.
    My dad owns a 2008 GL450 with the same 4Matic AWD system and suspension. The airbags and compressor went out at 62k, and the car has been undergoing various electrical repairs since, with the repair price for the initial air suspension fix being way too expensive and just unrealistic at the time. This resulted in the car sitting for a while, completely undriveable - it would bounce down the road, if you went over train-tracks, you'd bump your head on the headliner of the car, and it got to the point where we didn't wanna damage components of the suspension. It just got fixed and is driving again, but now the AC system has gone completely out, and it's the damn summer. The car is only at 67k. It's really sad, as it has probably the most fancy interior of any SUV I've been in, and the car is otherwise in great shape.
    I've heard the 4Matic airbags and compressor systems are either hit or miss, but I've met far too many people who have had horror stories with Mercedes like my dad did, which ended up in him buying a 4Runner. I hate to say it, but the reliability is what's hurting the German brands the most at the moment.

    We’ve had a ‘12 W166 ML350 4-Matic for the last eight years. Over 170k miles we’ve had a few small issues but one major one. The engine’s timing chain guides are currently failing, drives perfectly fine but makes a horrendous clacking noise for 10 seconds upon cold start up. Embarrassing, especially considering this was a $58k car eight years ago.
    Overall though I am very happy with the car, it’s one of the best road trip cars we’ve ever had. It cruises at 90 mph on cruise control effortlessly while achieving 20 plus MPG.
    Also when it was brand new it could do 0-60 in 7 seconds, 6.8 seconds to be exact. Properly fast 20 years ago!
    What’s a shame is we’ve been flirting with the idea of upgrading to the new GLE but it’s become very large in size without translating into noticeable added interior space. Also I wouldn’t dare get the 4 banger tt, those things will blow up in 70k miles the way we use our SUV. The 6 tt seems to be a decent engine but they’re pricey.
    Anyone looking to get a used W166 ML350 make sure to have the timing chain tensioners checked.
    This generation of ML is definitely a more substantial car than a RX or MDX. The ML’s materials don’t feel as nice as the Lexus and it’s not as sporty as the MDX but it’s much smoother & quieter during long distance trips.

  • @nickregnier1
    @nickregnier1 Před 4 lety +3

    Thanks Kevin, that was one of my hotlist cars I wanted before embarking with BMW and Lexus. The ML is a very good car. The comfort is great. The only thing that kind of stopped me from getting it is that in UK, we have lots of ML 350 CDIs and 250 CDIs (Diesel) and in London (UK) we have a ULEZ pollution tax that is being enforced in central London and from October 2021 the zone will expand to the inner circle of north and south circular. So the ML 350CDI would miss the emission target... The tax is £12.50 per day 24 hours a day...

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  Před 4 lety +3

      Oh way 12.50 pounds a day??!!! That's crazy your emission tax is outrageous man sorry to hear that. Is it pretty bad to keep your Lexus GS?

    • @nickregnier1
      @nickregnier1 Před 4 lety +1

      @@MeynMotorGroup well actually, my Lexus passed the emission test. Basically, diesel cars are facing a hard time in a nutshell if the diesel car is older than 2015, it will fail the ULEZ (which stands for ultra low emission zone). Petrol cars older than 2001 will also fail the ULEZ. So you could technically find an ML 350 CDI from 2015, but as the government is advising the public to avoid dirty fossil diesel engines, people prefer avoiding them to contribute for a cleaner air. So car dealers are struggling to sell them. We believe that there is a possibility that ULEZ will increase the tax and that it will expand any vehicles that may fail future lowere emission restriction. Crazy. Today, if you want to buy an electric car, they are still quite expensive to buy and the range is not that exciting. So fossil cars are still better, but we get strong message that they will be a thing of the past. Indeed from 2032, the UK has now announced that they will ban petrol and diesel cars. So manufacturers have to work harder with alternative energy... i reckon hydrogen cars will take over the electric cars soon as they are relying on a different source of power than electricity.

    • @nickregnier1
      @nickregnier1 Před 4 lety +1

      And I forgot to add that we have another tax that is congestion charge in London that if you drive from 630am and 10pm (now 7 days a week since Lockdown it used to be from 630am to 7pm Monday to Friday only), you must pay £15 for the day and this is another tax to reduce congestion in London. Only pure EV cars get to pay zero pounds... crazy. So if you are rich, you will buy a tesla, but if you cannot afford one, then a small EV car from other car manufacturers, which would mot be as good... There are other towns like in Oxford that already bans any non EV vehicle to drive in city center...

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  Před 4 lety +3

      I had no idea wow this is some great insight thank you for taking the time to share all of this. Yes Electric and even Hydrogen will be taking over. I write about this stuff on a website called TorqueNews I focus on Hyundai news.
      Hyundai Kia plan to be one of the worlds top three EV manufacturers as well as Hydrogen vehicles. Hyundai has already begun shipping out Hydrogen fuel cell powered commercial trucks to countries like Switzerland. Petrol power will be dead very soon. Thanks again for the incredible information

    • @nickregnier1
      @nickregnier1 Před 4 lety

      @@MeynMotorGroup You are absolutely right, as I have been watching this closely and South Korea and Japan are currently the world leaders to have built an entire network supporting the Hydrogen fleet of cars. In Japan since the meltdown of nuclear station with tsunami, they have decided not to rely on the nuclear station and using the EV cars but hydrogens powered fuel cars, which create electricity in a reverse process of standard EV vehicles. What comes out of the exhaust is pure water and they have hydrogens station installed in many regions and in some personal homes so that Japanese people can refill in their own homes. This year, if we did not have the covid-19 disruption, Japan was going to advertise heavily their new efforts in transforming the car industry during the Olympic games, which sadly are now cancelled. Europe is only now slowly waking up to to follow suit. European countries are pushing car manufacturers to build less polluting cars, so smaller engines, and sports cars have to make their engines sound less noisy as well. Hence why, the AMG fans for example (like me) are not happy about this as they detuned the exhausts of the new AMG cars. The new C63 AMG will be a 4 cylinder (you heard this right), which will be a fast car but lacking soul with loud engine noise. Ferrari have to also drop the engine noise, same for all car manufacturers (Porsche, Lamborghini etc.). If they do not comply, they simply face enormous fines imposed by the EU. So sports cars have to sound quieter but electric cars now have to make some noise (yes you heard this right), as being too quiet pedestrians cannot hear them. So new EV cars emit a fake engine noise via external speakers for pedestrian to hear. Crazy I think...

I've recently changed out the halogen headlight bulbs with LED's, replaced the aux battery, all the wiper blades and replaced the drivers side window switches as the switches were worn out but still fully functional. Also replaced my own engine air filter and multiple cabin air filters. The drivers seat seems to sometimes blow the fuse under the rear seat fuse box but that's about the only issues we seem to have. Thinking about upgrading the car with an Apple Air play module utilizing the same car controls and screen. @@MeynMotorGroup you’re right. But you see, long term user reviews like you did for this ML are more beneficial to your audience in 3rd world countries who rely on used cars. The GLE 43 was a new car review.

    Mercedes are reliable vehicles but, the maintenance is expensive and that’s probably why a lot of them are labeled unreliable because they’re left broken because of price of the maintenance. Also the guy who bought the new S550 could afford to do preventative maintenance so that’s why he got 215k out of it. He didn’t state how much he spent on maintenance to get to 215k tho.

    Ml350 are ok because that don't have as much problems as other Mercedes cars but the repairs are costly so are BMWs I would never own a bmw unless it was leased but never again if you hate lexus that's ok I don't care what you like I know what I like and I drive what makes me happy

    Hey bro I come to realize people who get mad over the badges of Lexus vs Mercedes just want to feel they have the best car that they own which we as people can tend to do with different things especially us car nuts lol but I never get into all that I use to think it to myself especially a little while after I got the Lexus I was saying to myself I should get f got the Benz but only because I grew up loving Mercedes and it always being my favorite car just said I’ll get the Lexus first because of the luxury and reliability I read and heard so much about

      Yea whatever is on people's driveway is going to be the best car in the world to them. Lexus is amazing no question one of my most favorite cars but every car is great haha.
      Every brand has a unique character and strength they bring to the table, its up to the consumer to try them all and see which feels best to them

    Almost all Lexus rx350 of the same year with a similar mileage have the worst wear and tear on their seats almost all! The quality of materials Lexus use on their seats sucks
