@@limitedreach4446 The laws can be weird though. In the accident his car was not in motion at all, in this case he'll almost certainty not be found guilty, but if his car was in motion I could see how some poorly written law could get him in trouble. I've had an almost identical accident happen to me in a parking lot, I didn't have anywhere to go and laid on the horn for 5 full seconds until the idiot caved in my front right fender.
So in that instance it has also been my personal experience that when someone is backing up and is so oblivious that they don't stop to look when another vehicle is honking constantly it doesn't matter how far back you go they are going to hit you anyway.

One student said she had the right to go in that situation so she should have just went and the professor said she’d rather not have a wrecked car just to be right.
I’ve been in a similar situation to this guy and it was actually the reason I bought a dashcam. The guy backed up past the crosswalk but didn’t get out of reverse. Out of caution I backed up as far as I could and as soon as the light turned green, the guy backed up to where my car previously was. If I hadn’t moved I would have been hit.

Just because you have right of way doesn't mean dealing with the aftermath is worth it.
Plus in some places the moment anyone hears "i'm gonna let her hit me" its automatically a 50/50 fault. You are supposed to drive to avoid a crash, even if you wouldn't be at fault. If you intentionally let a crash happen when you could have easily avoided it, then some places will give you partial fault as well.

    • @AJHelotie
      @AJHelotie Před 5 měsíci +1

True that, but if you have the video to prove it was the other person’s fault, more times than not, their insurance will reimburse you for whatever expenses you get as a result of the accident. So it sort of creates an impetus for people with brains to not make dumb mistakes like that guy in the clip.
Without a dash cam, at least 9 times out of 10, the cops will say it was the cammer’s fault. In which case, the exact opposite result happens………

@@tomr3422 Usually the other person goes from being on the offence with insurance and being entitled, to being highly defensive, trying their best not to loose, knowing they can’t win.
People tend to lie to their insurance as well. You can use that to your advantage when you can prove to insurance they’re lying. They tend to stop defending their customer at that point. You gain *nothing* by sharing your hidden cards (bar th he opportunity to gloat “I have you on camera!”). You gain the potential for the idiot in the wrong to dig their own grave.
There’s plenty of examples of people trying to steal or break people’s phones/cameras because they don’t want to be filmed doing something wrong, but I’ve seen at least one example of someone try to break into the car they hit, to take the dash cam. I’ve seen a few examples of people doing it to motorcyclists. So there’s an argument not to share the camera, for your own safety.
The final reason, similar to the first, if you’re actually the one found to be in the wrong… you could be digging your own hole by sharing that you filmed your own idiocy. There’s plenty of people sharing clips of the POV driver complaining, feeling entitled, when the comments section is ripping the driver a new one.

@@Re69. Just cause you *can* drive the posted limit at night or on damp roads doesn't mean you should. The posted limit is generally the safest maximum assuming good conditions. Any amount of water on the road reduces traction, no matter how small. Visibility is far more limited at night or in any sort of precipitation/fog/smoke than in clear conditions. Both of them affect how quickly you and the machine you're operating can react. And visibility can shift very quickly, especially in fog, going from reasonably clear to whiteout in a few seconds.
You claim to be experienced, but you lack in practical application of that experience. It blatantly shows in how you're resorting to the ad hominem in your edit.

      1) I didn't say you should drive the speed limit at night. But driving below the speed limit at night is also not necessary, that's what I'm saying.
      2) America has worse infrastructure than Europe so I can understand you should slow down when it's wet sometimes. European roads you can still drive the speed limit and take corners when it's wet. The only time you should slow down is when you it's raining really hard or when you see loads of water laying on the road, our roads are just designed better for rain.
      3) Like I said it depends on the fog, there is fog and you can still see traffic from 2 miles in front of you. No need to slow down for fog or rain.
I'm not disagreeing with everything, but yall are being too extreme.

1:58 Cammer is an absolute goofball. Some much pride but not enough common sense.
Edit: And people need to stop playing the victim card like this person, too. If you can do something about it, then do something.
Edit 2: The problem with footage like 1:58 is that they don’t provide enough information of the incident or dash cam footage, which leads to too much speculation as brought up by another commenter. I still stand by what I said, but understand that, by the camera person, it would be best to not do anything if there was potentially traffic behind them.
