    I love Bark River Knives and I bought because of your videos. More than that, I believe your genius honest feedbacks aside with lots of expertise and practices in the field and through many different weather extremities has improved their production a lot. You deserve to have all models in your favourite condition for free my dear Dr. Wako. You completely changed my taste about knife, sharpening, and view of life in general.
    Love and Respect from your Iranian fan

    Congratulations on your award Doctor Wako. When BRKT quality control wobbled, you never flinched from telling the truth. I thought at the time that after that, they would never recognise your personal contribution to the quality of their knives. We have all benefited from your consistent, high quality appraisals and I'm glad that DLT found it within themselves to reward your massive effort. Thanks for enriching us all.

    My Bushcrafter's bevel height is much higher to the same thick stock as Gunny Hunter. So my Bushcrafter is sharper substantially. But it ever took micro edge problems after bone touching. New Gunny Hunter will not take them because of its larger angle. If it feels dull for deer dressing, i will shallow down the whole bevel to make a smaller angle as always. If you like the keenest edge out of the box, I guess you can order the full height regrind by BRKT from a dealer before having it.Thanks.

    Very nice of BRKT & Very well deserved kind Sir! You and alot of your videos have made me come to the conclusion of finally trying one out for myself. Now, just to decide which model. Also in the market for a good set of chosera stones for my katana & other blades.
    I have learned & am still learning very much from you on bevels,sharpening & stropping by hand so i can put away my Wicked Edge(cheating to most ha! lol but scary sharp!) I personally cant thank you enough! Have a very nice day!

    Of course 200$ for a knife seems pricey on the first look, especially for non-knife-people.. BUT it's hard to find any other company which compares in performance/materials/quality/lifetime warranty with Bark River Knives. There are many other brands who charge you the same or even more for a knife which isn't nearly as good as a BRKT. For example O1 steel with scandi grind (one of the cheapest steels and grind there is) for 200$ and more.. Thoughts like that might help reconsider that BRKT is not that pricey as many people think they are. (Of course they are not cheap and it's still a lot of money but compared to other brands...) Kind Regards

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  Před 10 lety

      I think completely the same as you do. O1 steel in Scandi grind has to be by far cheaper than A2 steel in convex grind. And Bark River's lifetime warranty is real and I have taken it some times. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice

    BRKT give large edge angle to all of their 3V knives in my experience in Bushcrafter, Fox River, Gunny, Bravo1, Bravo1.5 and Gunny Hunter. I don't like it. 3V is 3 times as durable as A2 at least in my experience. But A2 is 3 times as easy as 3V to take stropping. I ordered A2 Canadian Special and A2 Bravo1.5 both in a wood handle just for making fire with joy. I think A2 is not so serious steel as 3V but more joyful than 3V. I am not so serious about fire making but enjoy it as a hobby. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice
    @virtuovice  Před 11 lety

    No. It seems like having a very large angle referring to the information that its bevel is convex. It is Scandi-Convex as their Bushcrafter is. Thanks.

    19C27 and S35VN for Gunny. 3V is the hardest and the most wear resistant steel in my experience.

  • @ChuckRichardsHandmadeKnives

    Excellent

  • @virtuovice
    @virtuovice  Před 11 lety +2

    When real Scandi bevels go convex due to repeated stropping and the angle goes larger not to satisfy our needs, we usually reflatten the bevel.But BRKT continue to make Scandi-convex for their specific reasoning which we cannot understand. The angle of Gunny Hunter is already large enough for large angle lovers. I am a large angle lover of sort for hunting and love Gunny Hunter. But real Scandi lovers will never love what they call Scandi-convex. BRKT should clarify the reason more. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice
    @virtuovice  Před 11 lety

    I am placing a pre-order of the coming 3V Bushcrafter in flat Scandi grind. I don't know if they can do it or not. Anyway what they say Scandi is Scandi-convex and large angle. I need genuine flat Scandi in small angle for efficient feathersticking. I feel Bushcrafter's handle is better than Gunny's hangle for bushcraft holding. Unless they cannot make the flat bevel, I will make it myself. Thanks.

    between the gunny hunter 3v and bravo 1 lt hunter 3v what do you think is better for an all around knife for hunting, camp and bush craft?

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  Před 8 lety +2

      +midwestoutdoorsman The handle of Gunny Hunter is too thin to put might on. And its bevel is a little too acute for wood carving. I think regular A2 Bravo1 (rampless) is a better all around knife than Bravo1 LT, the blade of which is a little thin for efficient batoning.

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  Před 6 lety

      Current Gunny is good out of the box. Anyway 3mm thick Scandi grind is the best for featherstick.

      It looks like a skinning knife in a very thick stock. It looks similar to Fallkniven PHK. I will never need those knives for my deer dressing. It will be an African Safari knife. Thanks.

  • @virtuovice
    @virtuovice  Před 10 lety

    Mr Wako I know that you love the Bark Rivers and have spent thousands of dollars on them..Here in the USA People love the Bark Rivers also but a lot of people here are die Hard Spyderco collectors on their folders but also on Spydercos bushcraft knifes.....a lot of Americans think that the Japanese steel from Seki City Japan is the best steel in the world like VG-10 or ATS -34,,,and some others...(In your opinion) are the Bark River Knives a better knife than the Seki-City Japan knives...Also Sir can you make a video for us telling us and explaining in a video the differences in the USA Made Super Steels compared to Japanese steels....Also one more question is it such thing in Japan company that hand makes fixed blade knives like Bark River??....Thank you in advance..I'm getting ready to buy my First Bark River knife..I'm going to get the Gunny Hunter with 3V steel with the dark spalted Burl handle scales or I'm going to get the Green Maple Burl handle or who knowed I like the corn cob handle.....what is your favorite handle material?

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  Před 9 lety +1

      I like curly maple the best for knife handles. We have little hunting culture and few hunting knives in reality. I met a real Japanese hunting knife very recently. It is made out of R2 steel from KOBELCO Japan. If you have time, please take a look at my Japanese videos.

    Hi, Mr Wako, please to meet you, i saw a Bark River Video that for this kind of blades (convex blades) they suggest to use a soft panel like a mouse pad with sand paper, did you ever have use it? I never have seen on your videos soft panels used.....you always prefer the classic water stones? Thank you, Daniele.

    • @virtuovice
      @virtuovice  Před 9 lety +1

      Soft backing always makes the apex angle very large. To adjust it as intended a hard plane is better to use. If you prefer sandpapers you should use hard backing to make the apex angle small enough. Thanks.
