Gotta admit, loyalty loss pales in comparisson to getting two free no upkeep men-at-arms with +5 combat strength on every city you have as soon as industrial zones get unlocked. Lincoln might just have one of the most absurd power spikes of any civ leader, even worse than Hammurabi because he still has to hard-build and upkeep his powerful units
@@UrsaRyan Yep, definitely going to want to nip Lincoln in the bud in future games, the sooner the better. I don't need another civ with early men at arms gallivanting near my border, Gaul and Babylon are enough for that
I was cringing a little when you got bronze working tech to reveal the iron. The +6 campus placement to the south of the capital was a prime location for iron to pop up & ruin the day.
@Ursa The free unit thing may be somewhat broken at the moment. Appearantly you get units even when you switch from coal to oil power plant and back and forth as much as you like.
Considering the limited amount of troops, survey is VERY important. Also, I wonder if the Panama Canal can cross rivers, would be fun if Washington was connected to the sea by the Panama Canal and a canal city near the delicate arch, and then using Reina in said canal city for mid-late game gold.
will you allow yourself to build wonders that give you free units? E.G. Statue of Zeus. This would give you archers which would critically give your walls better attack strength. (and could be upgraded to crossbows, etc... so your walls actually have a respectable attack) Do levied range strength units give you wall attack?
At 29:30 that industrial zone placement is so bad you lose 1 adjancency comparing to if you had put it 1 tile to the left and you force the aquaduc on your marsh tile and you lose a hill tile instead of a useless desert tile...
"I think Washington is happier than it should be right now." Now you're thinking like a Congress critter (as they override yet another D.C. ordinance).
The cats CAN be turned off if you don't want to use them! I also forget about them but I don't really pay all that much attention to what the units look like beyond the symbol that denotes what it is!
I feel like Lincoln's ability should make other civ's plantations give loyalty penalties, maybe within a certain proximity to his cities, or while at war with Lincoln, because that was one of the actual functions of the Emancipation Proclamation during the civil war. Having it be a self debuff is strange. (I would also drop the loyalty from industrial zones with this change)
Please help me understand this. Min 13 it’s turn 33 and it’s building a worker, but suddenly at min 14 it’s turn 35 and the worker it’s done and a settler is almost build, just a turn left. What happened??
Thank you for responding, you are amazing! If someone could check this out, it didn’t seem any forest or resourced was chopped, I’m quite curious how you did this!
Lincoln is a C or D tier Civ. Bull moose is way better. He’s good if you go for domination but only once you hit apprenticeship so no ancient/classical era bonus. The loyalty thing shouldn’t really matter but quite annoying that one is forced to go industrial zone in more than 2 or 3 cities just for the sake of the ability. Give me the new Congo any day of the year. New Saladin as well is far better as one can use units other than melee lol
Ursa, how do you feel about a 4v4 multiplayer game with the new civs? Maybe invite some Patreons or play with other content creators? Also Patreon, Patreon, Patreon, coffee, coffee, coffee. If you can't get 7 other players maybe a 1v1v1v1?
This game has a Heavy Chariot... but where's the Light Chariot? :( I think the Heavy Chariot is too weak anyway. It should be far stronger than a Horseman.
With lincoln, you actually do want to settle ON luxuries that take plantations.
That's not a bad idea to get around that.
Does turning plantations into industries/corporations also negate the penalty?

I honestly hate that the only way they know how to make the game harder is by making the AI have more damage and start with more units

It certainly is a spike - you just have to wait for it but once it's there it's mad!
@@UrsaRyan Yep, definitely going to want to nip Lincoln in the bud in future games, the sooner the better. I don't need another civ with early men at arms gallivanting near my border, Gaul and Babylon are enough for that
I just realized that Lincoln can make Occupied Cities more loyal by pillaging the plantation improvements before they capture! ❤
Pillaging plantations makes me want to watch Django Unchained
Great movie!
No, just equally disloyal to every other Civ.
General Sherman wouldn’t have it any other way.
Who's a good boy ?? Come get your treat. Good boy ! You're a good algorithm. Now go back and do your thing.
I've really been looking forward to your take on Lincoln, and oh boy, this doesn't disappoint!
If your scouts get stacked with promotions then they won't die as much
As much for me is still over 100% XD

What can I say, I had a crazy plan

Oh nice!!!
Every time the Discord comes up with a challenge that doesn't seem possible it's just "Hold my beer" time...
Scouts decent if you get to the 3rd promotion.
The problem is getting to that third promotion, I've only ever gotten to the second promotion and that doesn't happen often either.
yeah mine are all dead by that point!

Belated daily comment. It's hard to get caught up with Ursa cranking out videos at a feverish pace! Nice problem to have.
You're welcome! XD
Just when you thought the barbs are under control, lol
41:07 "And the city is Mainz" Haha:)
whats the mod that shows units charges and promotions over the icon?
I use a mod that causes scouts to gain exp from revealing tiles, making it alot easier to get a few promotions and make them worthwhile
Oh wow, that's a cool idea!
That's how I thought it worked for a long time
late game if u run the project to change coal power to oil power and vice versa u can get tanks for very cheap again and again
150% uncrease in science by building 1 campus is actually insane!
Awesome huh XD

In his previous similar type run with Byzantium, he built that and instantly deleted them all. So I doubt it.
Yes, I'll allow myself free units like that. No direct building them
When he found delicate arch and said “could go religion” I was like “…not warrior monks tho 🤔😂”
Civilization Expanded Mod is insane for Lincoln. The abilities are crazy good
I saw it, looked awesome!
Question with levying city states - would that not count as using gold to get a unit rather than it being free?
I said no this time simply because it was fun to levy! But I mean you can play this either way

I do like an Eleanor esc penalty for others, that is quite cool!
Could not load save file - requires Caesar DLC - don't want that.
Why would the save file require Caesar ??
Casear DLC is free, you pay nothing for it. Just link a burner email account with 2k and you're golden

Could be editing skipping time, more likely it's me changing the production queues or chopping resources off camera. I fiddle with my cities a lot!

Apparently units can be gained by doing the project that swaps out different power plants. Why Firaxis?
You need at least exploiting bug to get through per patch, it's only fair!
"And the city is MINE".. should've gone with "And the city is... Main...z..." Mainz, get it? I need sleep. Sorry.
